Electron microscopic investigations of innervation of the mesenteric lymphatic vessels ofCavia porcellus demonstrate that, besides membrane contacts between Axon and smooth muscle cell, a local direct plasmatic connection from the nature of synapses between the nerve and the effector cell have to be considered. From this study it has been concluded that also this neuromuscular junction is a transitoric structure and not a static connection comparable to the synapses in the motor end-plate of the striated muscle.

It is shown that the peristaltic activity of the isolated mesenterial-lymph vessels of mammals (Cavia porcellus L.) is provoked by two different stimuli: 1. by extension (internal pressure of the vessel: 2–25 cm H2O); 2. by temperature (biokinetic Temperature-Space of 23°; between 22–45°C). Based on these experiments, the autochthonous automaticy of the lymph vessels has been proved.

Recent data confirmed the hypothesis suggested by historical studies that the ratio of peripheral blood monocytes to lymphocytes (M/L) is associated with the risk of tuberculosis (TB) disease. A density functional study of flavonoid compounds with anti-HIV activity.

Abstract Quantum chemical calculations at the DFT/B3LYP theory level, with the 6-31G* basis set, was employed to calculate a set of molecular properties of 26 flavonoid compounds with anti-HIV activity. The correlation between biological activity and structural properties was obtained by using the multiple linear regression method. The model obtained showed not only statistical significance but also predictive ability. Effects of Terpenoids from Salvia Willeana in Delayed-type Hypersensitivity, Human Lymphocyte Proliferation and Cytokine Production

The effect of the lipophilic extract of S. willeana and three terpenoids isolated therefrom, camphor, lupeol and oleanolic acid, on oxazolone-induced hypersensitivity was evaluated. The extract reduced the ear edema by 46% at 24 h after challenge. All three terpenoids inhibited the edema and suppressed cytokines release at different rates. Lupeol inhibited the swelling by over 50% and reduced the production of IL-1β by 62%. Camphor caused inhibition of the efferent phase (45% inhibition at 72 h) and the levels of IL-1β, IL-4 and TNF-α (around 80% inhibition). Indole alkaloids from the coprophilous fungus Aphanoascus fulvescens

Abstract The Ascomycete fungus Aphanoascus fulvescens isolated from goose dung was investigated for its secondary metabolites, yielding five new indole alkaloids okaramines V–Z (1–5) and eleven known derivatives (6–16). Their structures were determined by 1D, 2D NMR spectra and HRMS data. Compounds 6, 8, 11 and 12 showed significant to moderate cytotoxicity against the mouse lymphoma cell line L5178Y with IC50 values ranging from 4.0 to 14.7 μM. Preliminary structure-activity relationships are discussed.

Trehalose is a non-reducing disaccharide comprising two glucose molecules. It is present in high concentration as the main haemolymph (blood) sugar in insects. The synthesis of trehalose in the fat body (an organ analogous in function to a combination of liver and adipose tissue in vertebrates) is stimulated by neuropeptides (hypertrehalosaemic hormones), released from the corpora cardiaca, a neurohaemal organ associated with the brain. The peptides cause a decrease in the content of fructose 2,6-bisphosphate in fat body cells. AbstractThe activity of recombinant interleukin-2 (rIL-2) on the in vitro lymphocyte proliferative response to phytohemagglutinin mitogen was investigated in healthy HLA-BB, DR3 positive and negative subjects. the response to mitogen, significantly decreased in HLA-BB, DR3 positive subjects, was completely restored by adding rIL-2. Moreover, in HLA-BB, DR3 positive subjects the in vitro treatment with rIL-2 significantly increased the reduced frequency of mitogen responsive T lymphocyte precursors, as assessed by limiting dilution analysis.
