Aaptamine Derivatives from the Indonesian Sponge Aaptos suberitoides
2013
Four new aaptamine derivatives (1-4) along with aaptamine (5) and three related compounds (6-8) were isolated from the ethanol extract of the sponge Aaptos suberitoides collected in Indonesia. The structures of the new compounds were unambiguously determined by one- and two-dimensional NMR and by HRESIMS measurements. Compounds 3, 5, and 6 showed cytotoxic activity against the murine lymphoma L5178Y cell line, with IC(50) values ranging from 0.9 to 8.3 μM.
Ircinal E, a New Manzamine Derivative from the Indonesian Marine Sponge Acanthostrongylophora ingens
2015
Chemical investigation of the MeOH extract of the sponge Acanthostrongylophora ingens afforded the new manzamine derivative ircinal E (1), in addition to six known metabolites (2–7). The structure of the new compound was unequivocally elucidated using one- and two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy, as well as high-resolution mass spectrometry. Compounds 1–6 exhibited strong to moderate cytotoxicity against the murine lymphoma L5178Y cell line with IC50 values ranging from 2.8 to 21.7 μM.
The many faces of erythropoietin: from erythropoiesis to a rational neuroprotective strategy
2008
It has been more than 10 years since the discovery that erythropoietin (EPO) and its receptor are expressed by the nervous system. In that brief time, a remarkable acceleration in understanding the...
Crystal cell pattern modification in a melanotic tumor strain of Drosophila melanogaster.
1988
3rd instar larvae of the melanotic tumor tu-pb strain of Drosophila melanogaster hold a lower number of free-circulating crystal cells in their hemolymph than the wild type ones. This pattern could result from an abnormal retention of mature crystal cells in the hematopoietic organs, as the strong hemocyte melanization inside the lymph glands of heat-treated tu-pb larvae seems to demonstrate. Melanotic tumor formation and modification of the crystal cell pattern may be related.
Metabolites from Combretum dolichopetalum and its associated endophytic fungus Nigrospora oryzae--Evidence for a metabolic partnership.
2015
Abstract A new altersolanol derivative, 4-dehydroxyaltersolanol A ( 9 ), along with two known sesquiterpenoids, ( S )-7′-hydroxyabscisic acid ( 7 ) and ( S )-abscisic acid ( 8 ) were obtained from the endophytic fungus, Nigrospora oryzae , isolated from leaves of Combretum dolichopetalum . The host plant yielded six known compounds including ellagic acid ( 1 ), 3, 3′, 4-tri-O-methylellagic acid ( 2 ), arjunolic acid ( 3 ), 4′-dihydrophaseic acid ( 4 ), echinulin ( 5 ) and arestrictin B ( 6 ). Close structural similarities with regard to compounds 4 , 7 and 8 were observed between the metabolites from the host plant and those of the endophytic fungus. Furthermore compounds 5 and 6 are relate…
Demethylnobiletin inhibits delayed-type hypersensitivity reactions, human lymphocyte proliferation and cytokine production
2007
Background and purpose: Our aim was to examine the effect of demethylnobiletin on various experimental models of delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) reactions and to determine its influence on the mediators and enzymes involved in these reactions. Experimental approach: DTH was induced in mice by oxazolone, dinitrofluorobenzene (DNFB) and sheep red blood cells (SRBC). The effect of demethylnobiletin on the ensuing DTH was studied, especially in relation to oedema formation, cell infiltration and tissue damage. Its activity on different mediators implicated in DTH reactions was also determined and its effect on nitric oxide synthase (NOS)-2 analysed. Finally, its influence on T lymphocyte pr…
Aminobisphosphonates as New Weapons for γ δ T Cell-Based Immunotherapy of Cancer
2008
Several observations in mice and in humans have collectively laid the foundation for examining the potential of γ δ T cells to exert tumor immunotherapy. Human γ δ T cells can be activated in a non-MHC dependent fashion either by low molecular mass phosphoantigens, or by agents that provoke the accumulation of endogenous pyrophosphates such as isopentenylpyrophosphate. Among the latter, aminobisphosphonates are well-established in the clinic, and extensive data are available on the compounds antiangiogenic, antiosteolytic and pro-apoptotic properties. In this review we discuss on the possibility that the intentional activation of γ δ T cells in vivo by aminobisphosphonates may represent a p…
Profiling the diversity of innate lymphoid cells
2015
Genome-wide transcriptional profiling of tissue-resident innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) has provided important insight not only into their developmental relationships and phenotypic plasticity but also into previously unknown functions.
Standard versus personalized schedule of regorafenib in metastatic gastrointestinal stromal tumors: a retrospective, multicenter, real-world study
2021
Background Despite its proven activity as third-line treatment in gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST), regorafenib can present a poor tolerability profile which often leads to treatment modifications and transient or permanent discontinuation; thus, in clinical practice physicians usually adopt various dosing and interval schedules to counteract regorafenib-related adverse events and avoid treatment interruption. The aim of this real-world study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of personalized schedules of regorafenib in patients with metastatic GIST, in comparison with the standard schedule (160 mg daily, 3-weeks-on, 1-week-off). Patients and methods Institutional registries a…
Evaluation of thrombin generation in classical Philadelphianegative myeloproliferative neoplasms / Evaluarea generării trombinei în neoplasmele mielo…
2016
Abstract Introduction: Patients with Philadelphia-negative chronic myeloproliferative neoplasms (Ph-MPN), polycytemia vera (PV), essential thrombocythaemia (ET) and primary myelofibrosis (PMF), are prone to develop thrombotic events. We aimed to investigate the coagulation status in their plasma using thrombin generation assay (TGA), a functional global assay, on Ceveron® Alpha. Materials and methods: The samples were collected from 89 consecutive Ph-negative MPN patients and from 78 controls into K2EDTA and CTAD tubes for blood cell counts, TGA and coagulation screening tests. Thrombin generation was analysed in platelet-poor plasma using Technothrombin® TGA assay kit. Results: We found a …
