Phase II study of mitomycin C, etoposide and vindesine in metastatic stage IV non-small-cell lung cancer.

1991

A total of 72 patients with metastatic stage IV non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) were treated with combination chemotherapy comprising the MEV regimen (mitomycin C, 8 mg/m2 given i. v. on day 1; etoposide, 100 mg/m2 given i.v. on days 1–3; and vindesine, 3 mg/m2 given i.v. on day 1; treatment repeated every 3 weeks). In 64 evaluable patients, the objective response rate was 37% (complete responses, 4.7%; partial responses, 32.3%). The median survival was 7.6 months for all patients. The treatment was very well tolerated. MEV proved to be an active and non-toxic regimen for the treatment of metastatic NSCLC.

Sun exposure and malignant lymphoma: A population-based case–control study in Germany

2007

Although some causes for malignant lymphoma are known their etiology is not well understood so far. We analyze the relationship between sun exposure and malignant lymphoma in a multicenter, population-based case-control study. Patients with malignant lymphoma (n = 710, 18-80 years) were prospectively recruited in 6 study regions in Germany. For each case, a gender, region and age-matched control was drawn from population-registers. In personal interviews, lifetime holidays spent in sunny climate, outdoor leisure activities and sunbed or sunlamp use were recorded. On basis of job task-specific supplementary questionnaires, an occupational physician assessed the cumulative working time outsid…

Whole‐body magnetic resonance imaging (WB‐MRI) in lymphoma: State of the art

2019

The improvements in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technology and the concern related to the increased cancer risk in patients with lymphoma, also due to radiation exposure associated with imaging examinations, have led to the introduction of whole-body MRI (WB-MRI) as a radiation-free alternative to standard imaging procedures. WB-MRI seems a less histology-dependent functional imaging test than 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography/CT (18 F-FDG-PET/CT). In patients with FDG-avid lymphomas, such as diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and Hodgkin lymphoma (HL), 18 F-FDG-PET/CT remains the imaging reference standard for staging, with WB-MRI potentially being a complementar…

Efficacy and safety of bosutinib (BOS) for Philadelphia chromosome–positive (Ph+) leukemia in older versus younger patients (pts).

2012

6511 Background: BOS is an oral dual Src/Abl kinase inhibitor with potent activity in Ph+ leukemia. Methods: Efficacy and safety of BOS 500 mg/d was evaluated in older (≥65 y; n = 119) and younger (<65 y; n = 451) pts in 3 cohorts: chronic phase chronic myeloid leukemia (CP CML) after imatinib (IM; CP2L cohort; n = 287); CP CML after IM + dasatinib (DAS) and/or nilotinib (NIL; CP3L cohort; n = 119); and accelerated/blast phase (AP/BP) CML or acute lymphoblastic leukemia after IM ± DAS and/or NIL (ADV cohort; n = 164). Results: Baseline events (≥65 y vs <65 y) included respiratory disorders (35% vs 13%), cardiac disorders (29% vs 9%), and diabetes (4% vs 4%). Median baseline medicatio…

Feasibility of thiotepa addition to the fludarabine-busulfan conditioning with tacrolimus/sirolimus as graft vs host disease prophylaxis.

2020

In classical reduced-intensity conditioning (RIC) regimens, including the fludarabine and busulphan (BF) combination, sirolimus and tacrolimus (SIR-TAC) as graft vs host disease (GVHD) prophylaxis has shown acceptable results. The outcomes of SIR-TAC in a more intense RIC regimen as Thiotepa-fludarabine-busulfan (TBF) have been hardly investigated. This retrospective study included all consecutive patients receiving an allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for myeloid malignancies (January 2009-2017) conditioned with either TBF or BF and receiving SIR-TAC. Patients receiving TBF presented higher non-relapse mortality (31.6 vs 12.3%,p = .01), along with shorter overall survival …

Endoscopic ultrasonography in gastric lymphomas: appraisal on reliability in long-term follow-up

2011

The reliability of endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) in follow-up management of gastric lymphomas has not been clearly validated. We conducted a retrospective analysis on 23 patients, 12 affected by mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma, eight by diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, and three by high-grade lymphoma with low-grade component, all treated with a stomach-conservative approach. One hundred and twenty matched evaluations with both EUS and endoscopy with biopsy (E-Bx) were performed, according to validated guidelines and clinical judgment. At a median follow-up of 87 months ranged between 9.5 and 166 months, the analysis of progression-free survival and disease-free survival …

Comparison of Claudin 18.2 expression in primary tumors and lymph node metastases in Japanese patients with gastric adenocarcinoma.

2019

CLDN18.2 expression is highly prevalent in Japanese patients with gastric cancer, making it a targetable alteration, and supporting development of zolbetuximab as a therapeutic agent for this patient population.

Ultrasonography for evaluation of the carotid artery in head and neck cancer.

1994

The dynamic relationship of lymph node metastases to surrounding vascular structures in the neck is important for preoperative patient assessment. When carotid artery involvement is suspected, this relationship often determines whether or not to operate. In the case of adhesive neck metastases along the internal jugular vein, it becomes possible to predict preoperatively if the integrity of this vein may be preserved. Ultrasonography has the ability to differentiate subtle from gross adherence, or simple compression from vascular invasion. This is done by manually palpating the tumor mass and asking the patient to perform various maneuvers while observing on a monitor the relationship of th…

Hospital and outpatient models for Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation: A systematic review of comparative studies for health outcomes, experienc…

2021

The number of Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantations has risen in the past 20 years. The practice of outpatient Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation programs is increasing in an attempt to improve the quality of patient care and reduce the demand for hospital admission. A systematic review of 29 comparative studies between in-hospital and outpatient treatment of Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation, with no restriction by outpatient regime was conducted. This study aims to analyse the current evidence on the effects of the outpatient model on patient-centred outcomes, comparing both in-hospital and outpatient models for autologous and allogeneic HSCT using the Triple Aim framework: …
