Mass Accretion Processes in Young Stellar Objects: Role of Intense Flaring Activity

According to the magnetospheric accretion scenario, young low-mass stars are surrounded by circumstellar disks which they interact with through accretion of mass. The accretion builds up the star to its final mass and is also believed to power the mass outflows, which may in turn have a significant role in removing the excess angular momentum from the star-disk system. Although the process of mass accretion is a critical aspect of star formation, some of its mechanisms are still to be fully understood. Plant Sterols and Antioxidant Parameters in Enriched Beverages: Storage Stability

Plant sterols (PS) stability, antioxidant parameters, and color were studied during 6 months of storage at 4, 24, and 37 °C in three PS-enriched functional beverages. Beverages were skimmed milk with fruit juice and PS (MFJPS), fruit juice and PS (FJPS), and skimmed milk with PS (MPS). No loss in total PS content occurred during storage observing the same values at any given storage time point. Total carotenoids decreased 36% with storage at two months and then remained stable. Total polyphenols showed fluctuations throughout the storage, remaining stable at 6 months and reaching initial values. Interaction of theEscherichia colitransporter DctA with the sensor kinase DcuS: presence of functional DctA/DcuS sensor units

The aerobic Escherichia coli C(4) -dicarboxylate transporter DctA and the anaerobic fumarate/succinate antiporter DcuB function as obligate co-sensors of the fumarate responsive sensor kinase DcuS under aerobic or anaerobic conditions respectively. Overproduction under anaerobic conditions allowed DctA to replace DcuB in co-sensing, indicating their functional equivalence in this capacity. In vivo interaction studies between DctA and DcuS using FRET or a bacterial two-hybrid system (BACTH) demonstrated their interaction. DctA-YFP bound to an affinity column and was able to retain DcuS. Neurons are usually regarded as postmitotic cells that undergo apoptosis in response to cell cycle reactivation. Nevertheless, recent evidence indicates the existence of a defined developmental program that induces DNA replication in specific populations of neurons, which remain in a tetraploid state for the rest of their adult life. Similarly, de novo neuronal tetraploidization has also been described in the adult brain as an early hallmark of neurodegeneration. We present in this dissertation a method to compare and to analyse irregular meshes with appearance attributes. First, we propose a mesh comparison method using a new attribute deviation metric. We consider the 1-harmonic flow of maps from a bounded domain into a submanifold of a Euclidean space, i.e. the gradient flow of the total variation functional restricted to maps taking values in the manifold. We restrict ourselves to Lipschitz initial data. We prove uniqueness and, in the case of a convex domain, local existence of solutions to the flow equations. If the target manifold has non-positive sectional curvature or in the case that the datum is small, solutions are shown to exist globally and to become constant in finite time.
