Cognitive behavioral therapy for chronic insomnia inoccupationalhealth services: Analyses of outcomes upto24monthspost-treatment

2013

Abstract Objective Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) is an effective treatment for persistent insomnia. The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of and response patterns to CBT-I among daytime and shift workers with insomnia over a 24-month follow-up in occupational health services (OHS). Methods The participants were 59 media workers with chronic insomnia, of whom 69% were reached at 24-month follow-up. Sleep diaries and questionnaires over seven measurement points were used as outcomes. Trained OHS nurses led the CBT-I groups. The study design was a non-randomized group intervention. Results Self-perceived severity of insomnia, sleep-related dysfunctional…

Cognitive behavioral therapy for shift workers with chronic insomnia

2012

Abstract Objective Shift work is a challenge in the screening and treatment of chronic insomnia. The aim of this study was to examine the implementation and effectiveness of a cognitive behavioral group intervention for insomnia (CBT-I) among shift workers with chronic insomnia. We also studied whether insomnia symptoms and intervention effects differed on work days and days off. Methods The study design was a non-randomized group intervention, including a waiting period prior to CBT-I as a control condition. A total of 19 media workers who worked irregular hours and had non-organic insomnia with features of psychological insomnia completed the study. We followed up with the results for a p…

Bicycling to university: Evaluation of a bicycle-sharing program in Spain

2013

: This study examined the change in behavioral stages (e.g. contemplation, action and maintenance) of cycling to university before and after the implementation of a new public bicycle share program (PBSP) and promotion of its use. The study also determined the change in the prevalence, correlates of PBSP use and potential role in the promotion of healthy weight. An 8-month follow-up cross-sectional study (September 2010-April 2011) was carried out among undergraduate students during the first season of implementation of the PBSP in Valencia, Spain. The sample was 173 students (68.2% female) with a mean age of 21.3 years (SD 3.06) who attended a PBSP promotional session. The data were collec…

Childhood maltreatment and sleep in children and adolescents: A systematic review and meta-analysis

2022

Childhood maltreatment is a global problem with the risk of serious health consequences for children and adolescents, including sleep problems. Former systematic reviews have examined the association between childhood maltreatment and sleep problems in adults, but no systematic review has investigated the literature on childhood maltreatment and sleep problems in childhood and adolescence. We published a protocol (PROSPERO: CRD42021225741) and conducted a systematic literature search using nine electronic databases. Upon duplicate removal, 1530 records were screened against the inclusion criteria, and 26 studies were included in the review. The most studied sleep outcomes were symptoms of i…

Azathioprine combined with prednisolone or monotherapy with prednisolone in active Crohn's disease

1993

Abstract Background: The role of azathioprine (AZA) in the treatment of active Crohn's disease (CD) is still controversial. This study examined whether AZA combined with standard prednisolone therapy improved the therapeutic outcome compared with monotherapy with prednisolone. Methods: Forty-two patients with a Crohn's Disease Activity Index (CDAI) of > 150 were randomized into two groups. Both received 60 mg of prednisolone daily in a tapering regimen to a maintenance dose of 10 mg. In addition, group 1 received 2.5 mg AZA/kg body wt and group 2 received a placebo over the whole study period of 4 months. Results: At the end of the trial, 16 of 21 patients (76%) in group 1 were in remission…

Maintenance of weight loss after obesity treatment: is continuous support necessary?

2002

Abstract Objective: This study examined outcome differences of 109 obese subjects, who participated in a 10-week cognitive-behavioral inpatient treatment followed by either a weight maintenance program or a follow-up period without professional support. Methods: Self-rated weight loss, eating behaviors, and general psychopathology were assessed several months before treatment, when subjects were admitted, at discharge, and at the 6-, 12-, and 18-month follow-ups. Structured interviews for mental disorders and eating pathology were conducted additionally. Results: The mean weight of the sample at baseline was 127 kg. Weight loss of the total sample amounted to 8.0 kg (6.3%) and was completel…

Risk Assessment of Fuel Quantity Indicator Replacement in ATR72 Aircraft

2015

Aircraft maintenance activities are rife with opportunities for error. The concurrent in-flight failure of all of the engines of a non-scheduled airline flight and the following list of human lives highlight one of these opportunities. As commonly recognized among flight operators, each flight safety agency follows the criteria of the International Civil Aviation Organization Annex 16 in which all the evidences of the technical investigation pave the way for avoiding future flight accidents or incidents. On the other hand, when the Italian penal procedure code was applied for the Tuninter aircraft ATR 72 (identification code TS-LBB) crash at issue on 6 August 2005 near Palermo (Italy), the…

A Multicenter Trial of Specific Local Nasal Immunotherapy

2000

Objective: To assess the efficacy and safety of specific local nasal immunotherapy (LNIT) in powder form in patients with allergic rhinitis, using subjective and objective parameters. Study Design: A double-blind randomized multicenter trial of 102 patients with allergic rhinitis who were treated with specific LNIT for 8 consecutive months. Methods: After identifying allergens with the skin prick test and sensitization threshold dose with the specific nasal provocation test, 102 patients were selected, of whom 55 were allergic to mites and 47 were allergic to Graminaceae or Parietaria pollen. The specific treatments were self-administered using an insufflator in two phases (phase 1: increas…

STRUMENTI E METODI PER INTEGRARE GLI ASPETTI AMBIENTALI NELLA MANUTENZIONE DEL PATRIMONIO ARCHITETTONICO

2022

Transcranial direct current stimulation over the right DLPFC selectively modulates subprocesses in working memory

2018

Background Working memory, as a complex system, consists of two independent components: manipulation and maintenance process, which are defined as executive control and storage process. Previous studies mainly focused on the overall effect of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) on working memory. However, little has been known about the segregative effects of tDCS on the sub-processes within working memory. Method Transcranial direct current stimulation, as one of the non-invasive brain stimulation techniques, is being widely used to modulate the cortical activation of local brain areas. This study modified a spatial n-back experiment with anodal and cathodal tDCS exertion on th…
