Objective To evaluate a rapid checklist capable of identifying exocrine pancreatic insufficiency in outpatients. Methods Prospective observational study of a multicenter cohort. Results One hundred and two patients were enrolled; 61.8% of the patients had medically-treated benign or malignant pancreatic disease, and 38.2% had a pancreatic resection. Visual examination of the feces was evaluated in 84 patients and it was related to steatorrhea in 51 patients (50.0%). The self-assembling of sodium bis (2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate (AOT) in gas phase has been investigated by electrospray ionization- and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry. Large surfactant clusters with an aggregation number close to that found in apolar media have been observed either as positive or negative ions. Moreover, the marked predominance of singly charged species as well as preliminary theoretical calculations strongly suggest an aggregate structure characterized by an internal hydrophilic core hosting the extra charge surrounded by an apolar shell constituted by the surfactant alkyl chains. Laima slimība ir visizplatītākā ar vektoriem pārnēsātā slimība Amerikas Savienotajās Valstīs. Neraugoties uz tās plašo izplatību un smagajiem slimības simptomiem, pret to vēl aizvien nav pieejama vakcīna. Darba mērķis bija ekspresēt Laima slimības izraisītājas, baktērijas (Borrelia burgdorferi), ar membrānu saistīto lipoproteīnu BBP28 un noteikt tā struktūru. Izmantojot KMR datus, tika aprēķinātas divas BBP28 proteīna struktūras - viena pilna garuma un otra saīsinātai proteīna sekvencei, kas nesatur nestrukturēto 27 aa garo N gala segmentu. SUMMARY Background: The aim of the present study was to compare MALDI-TOF results for the identification of 87 lactobacilli, isolated from soft or hard carious dentin from 70 first molars of 7- to 8-year-old children with those obtained by species-specific PCR. Methods: The 87 isolates were analyzed by MALDI-TOF MS (Microflex LT, MALDI Biotyper 3.0, Bruker Daltonik, Bremen, Germany), using a reference data base of 4110 strains including > 90 lactobacillus species. A bacterial artificial chromosomal library of Nonomuraea sp. In this paper, the application of a multi-analytical approach for the characterisation of synthetic and natural dyes in a historical textile is presented. The work is focused on a historical dress of a Sicilian noblewoman, dating from about 1865–1870. Firstly, SERS on fibre was performed, in order to individuate the classes of dyes employed. The SERS spectra suggested the presence of two main dyes: mauveine and orcein. In order to confirm these preliminary results, two different extraction protocols were applied. We report on a 12-year-old adopted boy with psychomotor disability, absence seizures, and normal brain MRI. He showed increased (but initially, at 5 months, normal) serum cholesterol, increased alkaline phosphatases, transiently increased transaminases and hypoceruloplasminemia with normal serum and urinary copper. Blood levels of immunoglobulins, haptoglobin, antithrombin, and factor XI were normal. A type 2 serum transferrin isoelectrofocusing and hypoglycosylation of apoCIII pointed to a combined N- and O-glycosylation defect.
