Designing Performance Management Systems in Academic Institutions: a Dynamic Performance Management View

This paper illustrates how to design and implement performance management systems in universities by identifying and modeling those factors impacting on academic performance through a dynamic performance management view. Particularly, combining performance management with System Dynamics modeling may allow academic decision-makers to better identify key-performance drivers for pursuing a sustainable performance improvement in universities. In the second section of the paper, a number of examples based on empirical findings from a field project aimed at designing a dynamic performance management model for the University of Palermo are discussed.

A New Method for the Price Determination of the Reactive Power Supply

This paper addresses the development of an accurate model for the pricing of reactive power supply as an ancillary service. Reactive power supply is one of the most important ancillary services in the field of transmission systems security. The present work is focused on building a reactive power market at which the Distributors can also take part in injecting reactive power at the connected HV/MV nodes. The authors have studied the particular case of the reactive power supplied by sub-transmission or distribution networks, connected to the nodes of the transmission system. The aim of this work is to establish a reactive power price by crossing demand and offer curves.
A Knowledge Management and Decision Support Model for Enterprises

We propose a novel knowledge management system (KMS) for enterprises. Our system exploits two different approaches for knowledge representation and reasoning: a document-based approach based on data-driven creation of a semantic space and an ontology-based model. Furthermore, we provide an expert system capable of supporting the enterprise decisional processes and a semantic engine which performs intelligent search on the enterprise knowledge bases. In the paper, the practical problem of analysing in an integrated way the performance of provincial waste systems is approached, in the framework of the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA). In particular, the in itinere phase of SEA is analysed herein. After separating out a proper group of ambits, to which the waste system is supposed to determine relevant impacts, pertinent sets of single indicators are proposed. Through the adoption of such indicators the time trend of the system is investigated, and the suitability of each indicator is critically revised. A fuel cell-based hybrid power supply for portable electronics devices

A fuel cell - supercapacitor hybrid power supply for portable applications is designed. To ensure system level simulation, each component is accurately modeled and simulation results are reported. A Digital Still Camera is selected as specific load device, although the choice of a specific application does not influence the proposed control technique performances but only dictates the power supply specifications.
