Tactical behavior of high‐level male marathon runners

This study analyzes the strategy used by the best male runners who participated in one of the major city marathons (Frankfurt Marathon, 2008-2018), the all-time performances <2:04:00, the male world records achieved during the 21st century and the Nike Breaking2 Project and INEOS 1:59 Challenge (total = 235 races). The races of the best runners in the Frankfurt Marathon (top 10) were analyzed (n = 110 runners, range: 2:03:42-2:14:05 hours); the runners were divided into two groups according to the tactical used. Aflatoxins in organs and biological samples from children affected by kwashiorkor, marasmus and marasmic-kwashiorkor: A scoping review

Originally, the kwashiorkor is a pathology justified by the low consumption of proteins and high carbohydrates in weaned children. However, today, it can appear due to multifactorial causes, one of the hypotheses being the presence of aflatoxins in foods consumed by the child population and detected in biological fluids. Inflammation, muscle damage and post-race physical activity following a mountain ultramarathon

BACKGROUND: The study aimed at exploring whether muscle membrane disruption, as a surrogate for muscle damage, and inflammation recovery following a mountain ultramarathon (MUM) was related with race performance and post-race physical activity. METHODS: Blood samples were obtained from thirty-four athletes (29 men and 5 women) before a 118-km MUM, immediately after and three and seven days post-race. The anaerobic metabolism of malate of Saccharomyces bailii and the partial purification and characterization of malic enzyme.

1. The main pathway of the anaerobic metabolism of l-malate in Saccharomyces bailii is catalyzed by a l-malic enzyme. 2. The enzyme was purified more than 300-fold. During the purification procedure fumarase and pyruvate decarboxylase were removed completely, and malate dehydrogenase and oxalacetate decarboxylase were removed to a very large extent. 3. Manganese ions are not required for the reaction of malic enzyme of Saccharomyces bailii, but the activity of the enzyme is increased by manganese. 4. Simulation of the influence of gas flow on melt convection and phase boundaries in FZ silicon single crystal growth

Abstract Axisymmetric calculations of inert gas flow in a floating zone puller are carried out using an open source software package OpenFOAM. Transient axisymmetric melt flow in liquid silicon and quasi-stationary shape of silicon phase boundaries are calculated using a specialized program FZone. Additional heat losses at silicon surfaces caused by the gas flow are taken into account for argon and helium, while maintaining the height of molten zone by adjusting inductor current. Cooling causes an increase of electromagnetic force, heat sources and more intense melt flow, while crystallization interface deflection decreases. Abstract A laser beam traveling horizontally at a short distance below the free surface of an absorbing solution exhibits various oscillatory states (periodic, quasiperiodic, and chaotic) which depend on both the buoyancy (Archimedes force) and the thermal coefficient of the surface tension (Marangoni effect). Setting-up tension in the style of Marantaceae

The Marantaceae stand out from other plant families through their unique style movement which is combined with a highly derived form of secondary pollen presentation. Although known for a long time, the mechanism underlying the movement is not yet understood. In this paper, we report an investigation into the biomechanical principles of this movement. Ley, sp. nov., M. montsdecristalii A. C. Ley, sp. nov. and Thaumatococcus flavus A. C. Ley, sp. nov. from the mountainous area of Monts de Cristal, north east of the capital Libreville, as well as Hypselodelphys lopei A. C. Ley, sp. nov. from the central part of Gabon in secondary forest near La Lope and Mikongo. New keys to the genera Marantochloa Brongn. & Gris., Thaumatococcus Benth. and Hypselodelphys (K. Schum.) Insights Into the Inside - A Quantitative Histological Study of the Explosively Moving Style in Marantaceae.

This study aims to identify the histological basis for the extraordinary, fast movement of the style in Marantaceae. Although this explosive pollination mechanism was subject of many studies, quantitative measurements to document volumetric changes have never been conducted. Based on physical parameters and limitations (poroelastic time), the movement itself is by far too fast to be explained by turgor changes solely.
