Physical oceanography, sea-bed photographs and videos of benthos from the Weddell Sea taken with remote operated vehicle CHEROKEE during POLARSTERN c…
2010
The marine ecosystem on the eastern shelf of the Antarctic Peninsula was surveyed 5 and 12 years after the climate-induced collapse of the Larsen A and B ice shelves. An impoverished benthic fauna was discovered, that included deep-sea species presumed to be remnants from ice-covered conditions. The current structure of various ecosystem components appears to result from extremely different response rates to the change from an oligotrophic sub-ice-shelf ecosystem to a productive shelf ecosystem. Meiobenthic communities remained impoverished only inside the embayments. On local scales, macro- and mega-epibenthic diversity was generally low, with pioneer species and typical Antarctic megabent…
Occurrence and virulence of Pseudoalteromonas spp. in cultured gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata L.) and European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax L.).…
2007
During two long-term bacteriological surveys in European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax L.) and gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata L.) culture facilities on the Spanish Mediterranean coast, four different species of Pseudoalteromonas were found in the internal organs of animals. Pseudoalteromonas undina, Pseudoalteromonas haloplanktis, P. espejiana and Pseudoalteromonas sp. were isolated from 9% out of 177 European sea bass and 11.7% out of 547 gilthead sea bream and they were recovered as pure cultures in 50% of isolations. Among fish with positive bacterial growth, Pseudoalteromonas was more prevalent in sea bass showing clinical signs (27.7%) and in gilthead sea bream without clinical sig…
Movement patterns of temperate wrasses (Labridae) within a small marine protected area
2021
The movement patterns of three commercially important wrasse (Labridae) species inside a small marine protected area (~ 0.15 km2 ) on the west coast of Norway were analysed over a period of 21 months. The mean distance between capture and recapture locations varied between 10 and 187 m, and was species and season specific. The extent of movement was not related to body size or sex. These results imply that a network of small strategically located marine protected areas can be used as management tools to protect wrasses from size- and sex-selective fishing mortality.
Isolation and characterization of twenty microsatellite loci for the ballan wrasse, Labrus bergylta
2014
Published version of an article in the journal: Conservation Genetics Resources. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s12686-013-0114-3 Open Access We developed 20 nuclear microsatellite DNA markers from tri- and tetra-nucleotide enriched libraries in the ballan wrasse. In our dataset (N = 241), the detected number of alleles per locus ranged from 2 to 12, and the observed and expected heterozygosity varied from 0.251 to 0.778 and from 0.286 to 0.804, respectively. Cross amplification with the goldsinny wrasse resulted in two usable loci whereas the corkwing wrasse amplified in one locus. The ballan wrasse is an important resource for aquaculture as it delouses fa…
Allee effects and the Allee-effect zone in northwest Atlantic cod
2022
According to the theory of compensatory dynamics, depleted populations should recover when the threat responsible for their decline is removed because per capita population growth is assumed to be highest when populations are at their smallest viable sizes. Yet, many seriously depleted fish populations have failed to recover despite threat mitigation. Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) stocks off Newfoundland, despite 30 years of dramatically reduced fishing mortality and numerous fishery closures, have not recovered, suggesting that drivers other than fishing can regulate the growth of collapsed fish populations, inhibiting or preventing their recovery. Here, using Bayesian inference, we show str…
Harmonizing circumpolar monitoring of Arctic fox: benefits, opportunities, challenges and recommendations.
2017
Source at http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/17518369.2017.1319602 The biodiversity working group of the Arctic Council has developed pan-Arctic biodiversity monitoring plans to improve our ability to detect, understand and report on long-term change in Arctic biodiversity. The Arctic fox (Vulpes lagopus) was identified as a target of future monitoring because of its circumpolar distribution, ecological importance and reliance on Arctic ecosystems. We provide the first exhaustive survey of contemporary Arctic fox monitoring programmes, describing 34 projects located in eight countries. Monitored populations covered equally the four climate zones of the species’ distribution, and there were large dif…
Norske ledere i fremmedkulturelle situasjoner : en kvalitativ studie av beslutningsadferd i Maritime Hydraulics AS
2004
Hovedoppgave i Industriell økonomi og informasjonsledelse, Høgskolen i Agder, Grimstad Dagens ledere står overfor stadig nye utfordringer, for eksempel gjennom økt internasjonalisering. Nye utfordringer gjør lederadferd viktigere enn noen gang.
IT-sikkerhetspolicy for Integrerte operasjoner
2007
Prediction of dynamic mooring responses of a floating wind turbine using an artificial neural network
2021
Abstract Numerical simulations in coupled aero-hydro-servo-elastic codes are known to be a challenge for design and analysis of offshore wind turbine systems because of the large number of design load cases involved in checking the ultimate and fatigue limit states. To alleviate the simulation burden, machine learning methods can be useful. This article investigates the effect of machine learning methods on predicting the mooring line tension of a spar floating wind turbine. The OC3 Hywind wind turbine with a spar-buoy foundation and three mooring lines is selected and simulated with SIMA. A total of 32 sea states with irregular waves are considered. Artificial neural works with different c…
Modeling of a Shared Mooring System for a Dual-Spar Configuration
2020
Abstract As floating wind turbines become more technically mature, the development of floating wind farms is under way. Cost-effective solutions are desired to reduce the mooring costs. The concept of a shared mooring system has been proposed for this purpose. This work presents a method to model the shared mooring system for a dual-spar configuration. By applying the theory in elastic catenary of cable structures, a shared line can be modelled. To verify the method, a dual-spar system is modelled in a multibody simulation tool, in which two floating wind turbines are connected via a shared line. Static analyses are performed by using the present method and the simulation tool. Further, a s…
