Self-assembly through non-coordinating intermolecular forces, part 2 [1]. Synthesis, crystal structure and packing of [Cu2(μ-phthalazine) 3(phthalazi…

2008

Abstract Treatment of the copper(I) trifluoromethanesulphonate toluene complex {[Cu(CF3SO3)]2 · C6H5Me} (1) with phthalazine (phtz, C8H6N2) in dichloromethane-acetonitrile solution yielded, via the bis(acetonitrile)tris(μ-phthalazine)dicopper(I) trifluoromethanesulphonate intermediate (2), the novel bis(phthalazine)tris(μ-phthalazine)dicopper(I) trifluoromethanesulphonate salt (3). Compound 3 was completely characterised and the molecular structure determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Complex 3 crystallises in the monoclinic system, space group C2/c, with a = 26.9527(10), b = 10.9558(7), c = 19.2104(10) Å , β = 127.268(2)◦, V = 4514.3(4) Å3 and Z = 4. The copper(I) coordination g…

Concave Tetrathiafulvalene-Type Donors as Supramolecular Partners for Fullerenes

2007

The cap fits! A new class of concave π-extended tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) derivatives, truxene-TTFs, were prepared and characterized, and their self-assembly with fullerenes was investigated (see picture). Truxene-TTFs represent the first example of TTF-related electron donors that serve, without chemical modification, as monotopic receptors for fullerenes in solution. Self-Assembled DNA-Based Structures for Nanoelectronics

2023

Recent developments in structural DNA nanotechnology have made com-plex and spatially exactly controlled self-assembled DNA nanoarchitectureswidely accessible. The available methods enable large variety of differ-ent possible shapes combined with the possibility of using DNA structuresas templates for high-resolution patterning of nano-objects, thus openingup various opportunities for diverse nanotechnological applications. TheseDNA motifs possess enormous possibilities to be exploited in realization ofmolecular scale sensors and electronic devices, and thus, could enable fur-ther miniaturization of electronics. However, there are arguably two mainissues on making use of DNA-based electroni…

White Phosphorus Is Air-Stable Within a Self-Assembled Tetrahedral Capsule

2009

Molecular Fire Quencher Cage-shaped molecular assemblies can regulate the reactivity of smaller molecules trapped within them. Mal et al. (p. 1697 ) extend this approach to enable the protection of elemental white phosphorus (P 4 ), a substance that rapidly ignites on contact with oxygen. The tetrahedral cages self-assemble in aqueous solution through coordination of six ligands to four iron ions, and efficiently capture phosphorus from a suspension. The water-soluble host-guest constructs were stable in air for at least 4 months, but released intact P 4 rapidly on displacement by added benzene.

ChemInform Abstract: Synthesis and Self-Assembly of Novel Fluorous Cationic Amphiphiles with a 3,4-Dihydro-2(1H)-pyridone Spacer.

2011

Abstract The synthesis of fluorous (highly fluorinated) 3,4-dihydro-2(1 H )-pyridone-5-carboxylate cationic amphiphiles have been described, where the dihydropyridone serves as a spacer and either a pyridinium bromide or a triphenylphosphonium bromide form the polar cationic head group. The in water self-assembled aggregates have been observed by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and dynamic light scattering (DLS).

Wide Rim Urethanes Derived from Calix[4]arenes:  Synthesis and Self-Assembly

2006

[reaction: see text] Calix[4]arenes 4, substituted at the wide rim by four N-tolyl-urethane groups, were synthesized, as well as derivatives 10a,b bearing two or three tolyl-urea groups beside of one or two urethane group(s). In contrast to tetra-tolyl urea 11, the urethane derivatives do not form hydrogen-bonded, dimeric capsules in CDCl3 or benzene-d6, but the dimerization can be induced for the triurea 10b by tetraethylammonium cations as guests. The quantitative formation of heterodimers is observed for all urethanes 4 and 10a,bin benzene-d6 in mixtures with a "tetra-loop" tetraurea 14, while "bisloop" tetraureas 13 require di- or triurea derivatives 10a,b for a clean heterodimerization.
