Changes in trunk posture and muscle responses in standing during pregnancy and postpartum
2018
Este artículo se encuentra disponible en la página web de la revista en la siguiente URL: https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0194853 The aim of this study was to analyze the position of the lumbopelvic region and the muscle activation of erector spinae and biceps femoris muscles in a group of pregnant women in the third trimester. The hypothesis was that pregnancy-related biomechanical and morphological changes modify the position of the lumbopelvic region and the activation of extensor muscles. The position of the lumbar spine and pelvis in the sagittal plane, and the EMG activity of the erector spinae and biceps femoris muscles, were recorded during standing…
Flexible mats as promising antimicrobial systems via integration of Thymus capitatus (L.) essential oil into PLA
2020
Aim: To develop electrospun mats loaded with Thymus capitatus (L.) essential oil ( ThymEO) and to study their morpho-mechanical and antimicrobial properties. Materials & methods: Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) mats containing ThymEO were prepared by electrospinning. The effect of ThymEO on the morpho-mechanical properties of fibers was assayed by scanning electron microscopy and dynamometer measurements. The antimicrobial activity of ThymEO delivered either in liquid or vapor phase was assessed through killing curves and invert Petri dishes method. The cytotoxicity was also investigated. Results: The mechanical properties were enhanced by integrating ThymEO into PLA. Both liquid and vapors of…
Additive manufacturing Processing and characterization of Fe-Si soft magnetic alloys
2021
Iron silicon (Fe-Si) alloys, also named silicon steels, are the most widely used owing to their excellent soft magnetic properties and economic costs. As electronic devices become diversified and automated, it is urgent to develop high-performance soft magnetic alloys with good reliability. For functional soft magnetic alloys, the SLM technique shown the potential to manufacture soft magnetic components directly from raw materials, such as the rotor and stator of the motor. In order to explore and develop new routes for manufacturing Fe-Si alloys, the investigation into the microstructures and properties of SLMed Fe-Si alloys from pre-alloyed powders was presented in this work. The most imp…
Effect of elliptical deformation on molecular polarizabilities of model carbon nanotubes from atomic increments.
2003
The interacting induced dipole polarization model implemented in our program POLAR is used for the calculation of the dipole-dipole polarizability alpha. The method is tested with single-wall carbon nanotube models as a function of nanotube radius and elliptical deformation. The results for polarizability follow the same trend as reference calculations performed with our version of the program PAPID. For the zigzag tubes, the polarizability is found to follow a remarkably simple law, that is, it varies as the inverse of the radius. A dramatic effect is also found with elliptical deformation. It is found that the polarizability and related properties can be modified continuously and reversib…
Effects of ligand binding on the mechanical properties of ankyrin repeat protein gankyrin.
2012
Ankyrin repeat proteins are elastic materials that unfold and refold sequentially, repeat by repeat, under force. Herein we use atomistic molecular dynamics to compare the mechanical properties of the 7-ankyrin-repeat oncoprotein Gankyrin in isolation and in complex with its binding partner S6-C. We show that the bound S6-C greatly increases the resistance of Gankyrin to mechanical stress. The effect is specific to those repeats of Gankyrin directly in contact with S6-C, and the mechanical ‘hot spots’ of the interaction map to the same repeats as the thermodynamic hot spots. A consequence of stepwise nature of unfolding and the localized nature of ligand binding is that it impacts on all as…
Comparative Study of Different Maleic Anhydride Grafted Compatibilizer Precursors toward LDPE/PA6 Blends: Morphology and Mechanical Properties
2005
The study deals with the effectiveness of maleic anhydride grafted styrene-b-ethylene-co-propylene copolymer (SEPMA) as compatibilizer precursor (CP) for blends of low density polyethylene (LDPE) with polyamide-6 (PA). The CP was produced by grafting MA onto SEP in the melt. The specific interactions between the CP and the blends components have been investigated through characterizations of the binary LDPE/CP and PA/CP blends. The compatibilizing efficiency of the MA-grafted SEP, as revealed by the thermal properties and the morphology of the compatibilized blends, has been shown to be excellent. The morphology, as well as the mechanical properties of the compatibilized with SEPMA 75/25 w/…

Photo-oxidation behaviour of polyethylene/polyamide 6 blends filled with organomodified clay: Improvement of the photo-resistance through morphology …
2010
Abstract The impact of small amounts of organomodified clay (OMMT) on the photo-degradation behaviour of two blends obtained by mixing either low-density polyethylene (LDPE) or high density polyethylene (HDPE) with polyamide 6 (PA6) (LDPE/PA6 and HDPE/PA6 75/25 wt-%) was studied. The complex photo-degradation behaviour was followed by monitoring the main physical–mechanical properties of the blends. In particular, mechanical and spectroscopic tests were performed in conditions of accelerated artificial aging. An accurate mechanical and morphological characterization was previously carried out. The presence of the OMMT promotes the unexpected formation of a co-continuous morphology for the H…
The effect of silica nanoparticles on the morphology, mechanical properties and thermal degradation kinetics of polycarbonate
2012
Abstract Polycarbonate/silica nanocomposites with different silica quantities were prepared by a melt compounding method. The effect of silica amount, in the range 1–5 wt.%, on the morphology, mechanical properties and thermal degradation kinetics of polycarbonate (PC) was investigated. Clusters of silica nanoparticles were well dispersed in the polycarbonate whose structure remained amorphous. NMR results showed intermolecular interactions involving the carbonyl groups of different polymeric chains which did not affect the intramolecular rotational motions. The presence of the lowest silica content showed a decrease in the storage and loss moduli below the glass transition temperature, pro…
