Vertical bone augmentation procedures: Basics and techniques in dental implantology

2013

An appropriate bony situation is essential for dental implant placement and bony support of soft tissues (pink esthetic). Loss of teeth often results in complex horizontal and vertical alveolar ridge defects. They demand advanced bone augmentation techniques for reconstruction. We present the different techniques and materials used in complex bone augmentation. Clinical cases show the application of the methods in the clinical setting. We present current techniques and materials used in complex bone augmentations. Clinical cases show the application of the methods in the clinical setting. Applied techniques include stabilized-guided bone regeneration (GBR), autologous local block augmentati…

Osteogenic parameters surrounding trabecular tantalum metal implants in osteotomies prepared via osseodensification drilling

2019

Background Surgical fixation of implants into bone for the correction of bone deformities or defects is a traditional approach for skeletal stabilization. Important measures of efficacy of implants include implant stability and osseointegration—the direct interaction between living bone and an implant. Osseointegration depends on successful implant placement and subsequent bone remodeling. This study utilized osseodensification drilling (OD) in a low bone density model using trabecular metal (TM) implants. Material and Methods Three osteotomy sites, Regular, OD-CW (clockwise), and OD-CCW (counterclockwise), were prepared in each ilium of three female sheep. Drilling was performed at 1100rpm…

Effect of doping and crystallite size on the electrochemical performance of Li4Ti5O12

2016

Abstract Defect spinel phase lithium titanate (Li 4 Ti 5 O 12 ) has been suggested as a promising negative electrode material for next generation lithium ion batteries. Flame spray pyrolysis has been shown to be a viable fast, one-step process for synthesis of nanoparticulate Li 4 Ti 5 O 12 . However, due to the rapid quenching that is integral to the process the crystallite size remain very small and non-uniform. To overcome this shortcoming a vertical flow tube furnace was used to increase the high-temperature residence time. This resulted in an increase in the crystallite size and crystallinity of the product. As a result of this increase the electrochemical performance of the Li 4 Ti 5 …

Atlas for the properties of elemental two-dimensional metals

2018

Common two-dimensional (2D) materials have a layered three-dimensional (3D) structure with covalently bonded, atomically thin layers held together by weak van der Waals forces. However, in a recent transmission electron microscopy experiment, atomically thin 2D patches of iron were discovered inside a graphene nanopore. Motivated by this discovery, we perform a systematic density-functional study on atomically thin elemental 2D metal films, using 45 metals in three lattice structures. Cohesive energies, equilibrium distances, and bulk moduli in 2D are found to be linearly correlated to the corresponding 3D bulk properties, enabling the quick estimation of these values for a given 2D metal a…

Influence of titanium-substrate roughness on Ca–P–O thin films grown by atomic layer deposition

2013

Abstract Amorphous Ca–P–O films were deposited on titanium substrates using atomic layer deposition, while maintaining a uniform Ca/P pulsing ratio of 6/1 with varying number of atomic layer deposition cycles starting from 10 up to 208. Prior to film deposition the titanium substrates were mechanically abraded using SiC abrasive paper of 600, 1200, 2000 grit size and polished with 3 μm diamond paste to obtain surface roughness R rms values of 0.31 μm, 0.26 μm, 0.16 μm, and 0.10 μm, respectively. The composition and film thickness of as-deposited amorphous films were studied using Time-Of-Flight Elastic Recoil Detection Analysis. The results showed that uniform films could be deposited on ro…

Aluminum oxide from trimethylaluminum and water by atomic layer deposition:The temperature dependence of residual stress, elastic modulus, hardness a…

2014

Use of atomic layer deposition (ALD) in microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) has increased as ALD enables conformal growth on 3-dimensional structures at relatively low temperatures. For MEMS device design and fabrication, the understanding of stress and mechanical properties such as elastic modulus, hardness and adhesion of thin film is crucial. In this work a comprehensive characterization of the stress, elastic modulus, hardness and adhesion of ALD aluminum oxide (Al2O3) films grown at 110-300 C from trimethylaluminum and water is presented. Film stress was analyzed by wafer curvature measurements, elastic modulus by nanoindentation and surface-acoustic wave measurements, hardness by na…

Colloidal lithography and Metal-Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition process integration to fabricate ZnO nanohole arrays

2010

A complete set up of optimal process conditions for an effective colloidal lithography/catalyst assisted MOCVD process integration is presented. It mainly focuses on the determination of the deposition temperature threshold for ZnO Metal-Organic Chemical Vapour Deposition (MOCVD) as well as the concentration of metal-organic silver (Ag) catalyst. Indeed, the optimization of such process parameters allows to tailor the ZnO film morphology in order to make the colloidal lithography/catalyst assisted MOCVD approach a valuable bottom up method to fabricate bi-dimensional ordered ZnO nanohole arrays. On Mathematical Modelling of Metals Distribution in Peat Layers

2014

In this paper we consider averaging and finite difference methods for solving the 3-D boundary-value problem in multilayered domain. We consider the metals Fe and Ca concentration in the layered peat blocks. Using experimental data the mathematical model for calculation of concentration of metals in different points in peat layers is developed. A specific feature of these problems is that it is necessary to solve the 3-D boundary-value problems for elliptic type partial differential equations (PDEs) of second order with piece-wise diffusion coefficients in the layered domain. We develop here a finite-difference method for solving of a problem of one, two and three peat blocks with periodica…

Numerical model of macro-segregation during directional crystallization process

1998

Abstract In the paper the mathematical model of macro-segregation proceeding during the directional crystallization process is presented. The boundary-initial problem considered is discussed. Next the numerical approximation constructed on the basis of the boundary element method supplemented by a procedure called the artificial heat source method is described. The boundary condition on the solidification front resulting from the alloy component balance is introduced, while in finally the practical aspects of computations concerning the course of the process are discussed.

Prediction of alkaline earth elements in bone remains by near infrared spectroscopy.

2016

An innovative methodological approach has been developed for the prediction of the mineral element composition of bone remains. It is based on the use of Fourier Transform Near Infrared (FT-NIR) diffuse reflectance measurements. The method permits a fast, cheap and green analytical way, to understand post-mortem degradation of bones caused by the environment conditions on different skeletal parts and to select the best preserved bone samples. Samples, from the Late Roman Necropolis of Virgen de la Misericordia street and En Gil street located in Valencia (Spain), were employed to test the proposed approach being determined calcium, magnesium and strontium in bone remains and sediments. Coef…
