Desferrioxamine as an appropriate chelator for 90Nb: Comparison of its complexation properties for M-Df-Octreotide (M=Nb, Fe, Ga, Zr)

The niobium-90 radioisotope ((90)Nb) holds considerable promise for use in immuno-PET, due to its decay parameters (t½ = 14.6h, positron yield=53%, Eß(+)(mean) = 0.35 MeV and Eß(+)(max) = 1.5 MeV). In particular, (90)Nb appears well suited to detect in vivo the pharmacokinetics of large targeting vectors (50-150 kDa). In order to be useful for immuno-PET chelators are required to both stabilize the radionuclide in terms of coordination chemistry and to facilitate the covalent attachment to the targeting vector. The effect of experimental lead pollution on DNA methylation in a wild bird population

Anthropogenic pollution is known to negatively influence an organism’s physiology, behaviour, and fitness. Epigenetic regulation, such as DNA methylation, has been hypothesized as a potential mechanism to mediate such effects, yet studies in wild species are lacking. We first investigated the effects of early-life exposure to the heavy metal lead (Pb) on DNA methylation levels in a wild population of great tits (Parus major), by experimentally exposing nestlings to Pb at environmentally relevant levels. Detection of gas trace of hydrofluoric acid using microcantilever

Abstract Microcantilevers have been used as a gas sensor in order to detect Hydrofluoric acid (HF) in the concentration range of 0.26–13 ppm. Silicon derived elements (Si 3 N 4 , SiO x ) were chosen to serve as chemical sensitive layer. Cantilever deflection and frequency shift were analyzed and compared as a function of the flow rate and the concentration of the HF molecules. The stoichiometry and roughness of the sensitive layer were found to be of major importance. Results show that the most appropriate signal at the lowest concentration ( x surface by HF. The frequency shift that is mainly governed by the loss in cantilever mass can be used at higher concentration.

Real-time microfluorescence studies of Langmuir-Blodgett deposition: Monolayer adsorption and desorption

Abstract Observations of the meniscus region in a typical Langmuir-Blodgett configuration are obtained using fluorescence microscopy. Studies of the meniscus position as a function of pH demonstrate that the meniscus height increases upon charging the monolayer owing to the repulsive interaction between monolayer and substrate surfaces. Through the correspondence between meniscus height and contact angle the adhesion forces between monolayer and substrate as a function of monolayer charge are assessed. The phenomenon of desorption upon resubmerging a deposited film is described and it is shown that the meniscus height at the onset of the desorption is greater for higher pH.

Reversible switching of the electronic ground state in a pentacoordinated Cu(ii) complex.

International audience; An easy reversible switching of the electronic ground state in a pentacoordinated copper(ii) complex is reported for the first time. The simple protonation of a carboxylic group in a Cu(ii) complex with a {dx(2)-y(2)}(1) electronic configuration leads to a flip of the ground electronic configuration from {dx(2)-y(2)}(1) to {dz(2)}(1) in the metal ion.

The combined use of chemical and biochemical markers to assess water quality along the Ebro River

Carp (Cyprinus carpio) and barbel (Barbus graellsii) were collected from five sites along the Ebro River. The study was designed to assess levels of persistent organic pollutants and metals bioaccumulated by fish, and some biochemical responses (cytochrome P450 system, phase II activities, and metallothioneins) against those pollutants. The highest levels of PCBs and DDTs were detected in carp from industrialised areas, which also showed high levels of mercury and cadmium in the liver, and high levels of nonylphenol in bile.
