Combined Spectroscopic and TD-DFT Analysis to Elucidate Substituent and Acidochromic Effects in Organic Dyes: A Case Study on Amino- versus Nitro-Sub…
2020
Made available in DSpace on 2020-12-12T01:33:30Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2020-01-01 A combined spectroscopic and TD-DFT case study was performed, to identify a robust method to calculate the complex near UV/Vis absorption spectra of various amino- vs. nitro-substituted 2,4-diphenylquinolines, which vary strongly under neutral and successively acidic conditions. For this, different DFT functionals were tested for geometry optimization and the TD part to calculate the neutral and different protonated species in a fast screening approach, i. e. using single point calculations in an implicit solvent. Offset-corrected M06HF, hitherto only applied to polymers, was identif…
STRUCTURAL OPTIMIZATION AND STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS OF COMPOSITE MATERIAL PANEL FOR NAVAL USE
2008
The purpose of the work is the realization of a composite material with long glass fibers having better characteristic than a fiber random composite, to permit the reduction of weight and costs to shipyards for pleasure craft. Structural optimization is performed by ANSYS for the choice of the layers disposition to obtain the maximum stiffness with minimum material employment, saving weight. The study is centered on the research of the better configurations of plies packing in relation of pure shear stress for four different plies. Unidirectional plies, both symmetric orthotropic and symmetric non-orthotropic ones, are realized successively by the vacuum bag technique. Experimental tests of…
European Security Under Threat: Mediating the Crisis and Constructing the Other
2017
Departing from the assumption that discourse is both socially constituted and constitutive, and that social reality is co-constructed by the institutions of mass communication, this chapter takes under scrutiny media representation of the recent refugee crisis in Europe. The objective behind it is to maximise the validity of the Media Proximization Approach (MPA), drawing on the insights from Critical Discourse Studies, cognitive linguistics and corpus linguistics, in explicating how the media can potentially impact on the salience of issues and thus on public perception of problems and threats along with measures to be taken to deal with them. Examining the data from Poland, a European Uni…
Mobilizing against the Other : cyberhate, refugee crisis and proximization
2017
Drawing on the insights from Media Proximization Approach (MPA), the present chapter explores the dynamics of the online construction of the Other in the context of current refugee crisis and the phenomenon of hate speech within cyberspace. While content- and theme-wise, it takes under scrutiny online refugee-related discourses, on the theoretical and methodological level it presents a new approach to mediated construction of social reality based on the notion of distance and Self/Other or Us/Them dichotomy. Coached within (Cognitive) Critical Discourse Analysis, such an approach calls for an integration of corpus linguistics methods and tools. The chapter addresses the following questions:…
TECHNOLOGICAL DESIGN. THE INNOVATION IN THE METHOD
2018
The book presents reflections on the centrality of Design in the discipline of Technology of Architecture and on the need to adapt the design method to the innovation of thought implemented by the research world. The theme of the Innovation in the Method of Technological Design is an interesting challenge that in this volume has been addressed considering the complexity of the levels of thematic depth, opening up to critical reflections, proposals for tools and illustration of case studies that show the breadth, relevance and multidimensionality of this issue. The era of digital and information technology have significantly influenced the way of doing and thinking in architecture and this e…
Optimization of carbon dioxide concentration in the didactic rooms by the regulation of ventilation
2016
Acoustic wave guides as infinite-dimensional dynamical systems
2015
We prove the unique solvability, passivity/conservativity and some regularity results of two mathematical models for acoustic wave propagation in curved, variable diameter tubular structures of finite length. The first of the models is the generalised Webster's model that includes dissipation and curvature of the 1D waveguide. The second model is the scattering passive, boundary controlled wave equation on 3D waveguides. The two models are treated in an unified fashion so that the results on the wave equation reduce to the corresponding results of approximating Webster's model at the limit of vanishing waveguide intersection.
Time-Dependent Multiple Depot Vehicle Routing Problem on Megapolis Network under Wardrop's Traffic Flow Assignment
2018
In this work multiple depot vehicle routing problem is considered in case of variable travel times between nodes on a metropolis network. This variant of the classic multiple depot vehicle routing problem is motivated by the fact that in urban contexts variable traffic conditions play an essential role and can not be ignored in order to perform a realistic optimization. Time-travel matrices corresponding to each period of planning horizon were formed by solving the traffic assignment problem in conjunction with shortest path problem. Routing problem instances include from 20 to 100 customers randomly chosen from a road network of Saint-Petersburg. The results demonstrate that taking into ac…
Husk Energy Supply Systems for Sunflower Oil Mills
2020
Together with solar, wind, and hydro renewable energy sources (RES), biomass constitutes an integral part of the high-renewables electricity systems. Considerable feedstocks for electricity generation are process-based residues. Ukraine is the world leader in sunflower seed production, therefore, husk (a by-product of oil production) is a promising biofuel for combustion- based power plants. The plants consume primarily electricity and fossil fuels (natural gas or fuel oil) for steam production. Their usage affects the edible oil production cost and impacts on climate change. The above facts force us to look for alternatives. By-product (husk) utilization can reduce exhaustible energy consu…
The Car Resequencing Problem with Pull-Off Tables
2011
AbstractThe car sequencing problem determines sequences of different car models launched down a mixed- model assembly line. To avoid work overloads of workforce, car sequencing restricts the maximum occurrence of labor-intensive options, e.g., a sunroof, by applying sequencing rules. We consider this problem in a resequencing context, where a given number of buffers (denoted as pull-off tables) is available for rearranging a stirred sequence. The problem is formalized and suited solution procedures are developed. A lower bound and a dominance rule are introduced which both reduce the running time of our graph approach. Finally, a real-world resequencing setting is investigated.
