Carsharing business models in Germany: characteristics, success and future prospects

2017

Carsharing provides an alternative to private car ownership by allowing car use temporarily on an on-demand basis. Operators provide carsharing services using different business models and ownership structures. We distinguish between cooperative, business-to-consumer (B2C) roundtrip and one-way, as well as peer-topeer (P2P) carsharing. This paper characterizes these different types of business models and compares their success in terms of diffusion using a comprehensive database of all 101 German carsharing providers in 2016. The key result holds that fleet size is significantly different across business models ranging from a few cars (cooperatives in small towns), to a few hundred (B2C rou…

Periferie interne siciliane

2020

Separation of atomic and molecular ions by ion mobility with an RF carpet

2021

Gas-filled stopping cells are used at accelerator laboratories for the thermalization of high-energy radioactive ion beams. Common challenges of many stopping cells are a high molecular background of extracted ions and limitations of extraction efficiency due to space-charge effects. At the FRS Ion Catcher at GSI, a new technique for removal of ionized molecules prior to their extraction out of the stopping cell has been developed. This technique utilizes the RF carpet for the separation of atomic ions from molecular contaminant ions through their difference in ion mobility. Results from the successful implementation and test during an experiment with a 600~MeV/u $^{124}$Xe primary beam are…

Maantieteelliset piirteet ja iäkkäiden henkilöiden liikkuminen ulkona (GEOage)

2021

This dataset is part of the “Geographic characteristics, outdoor mobility and physical activity of older people” (GEOage) project, in which freely available geographic information characterizing the environment is linked to participant data of the “Life-space mobility in old age” (LISPE) cohort comprising 75–90-years-old community-dwelling people living in Jyväskylä and Muurame in Central Finland (n=848). The GEOage dataset contains variables of environmental characteristics of participants' environment within 500 or 1000 m from home. The dataset comprises variables related to characteristics of nature (hilliness, nature and green areas, waterside areas) and built environment (land use, nei…

Urban Mobility, Social Inclusion and Participation: A Qualitative Study in Palermo, Italy

2020

The purpose of this chapter is to discuss the connection between social inclusion and urban mobility, focusing on the role of sharing mobility and to what extent it might be a favourable tool for social inclusion, particularly for disadvantaged groups such as migrants. To our knowledge, whilst the literature has already examined the associations between migrants’ social inclusion and mobility, the role of sharing mobility in this process has not yet been widely analysed, especially in the Italian context. Hence, the present chapter addresses this knowledge gap. The rest of the chapter is organised as follows. First, we describe the relationships between mobility and social exclusion, then w…

Data from: Population-level consequences of risky dispersal

2015

Achieving sufficient connectivity between populations is essential for persistence, but costs of dispersal may select against individual traits or behaviours that, if present, would improve connectivity. Existing dispersal models tend to ignore the multitude of risks to individuals: while many assess the effect of mortality costs, there is also a risk of failing to find new habitat, especially when the entire inhabitable area remains both small and fragmented. There are few known rules governing whether individuals evolve to disperse more, or less, than what is ideal for population connectivity and persistence. Here we aim to fill this gap, while also noting that evolution might not only pr…
