Wavefront Recovery: Shack-Hartmann Aberrometry vs PhaseLift Using a Single Binary Amplitude Modulating Mask

We investigate whether a wavefront can be recovered by using a single mask rotated in four different positions. Results show that PhaseLift can recover the wavefront from intensity measurements using such a kind of modulation.

Nonlinear polarization effects in optical fibers: polarization attraction and modulation instability [Invited]

We review polarization stabilization techniques based on the polarization attraction effect in low-birefringence fibers. Polarization attraction or pulling may be based on cross-polarization modulation, on parametric amplification, and on Raman or Brillouin scattering. We also review methods for laser frequency conversion based on polarization modulation instabilities in low- and high-birefringence fibers, and photonic crystal fibers. Polarization instabilities in nonlinear fibers may also be exploited for sensing applications.

Linear infrared dichroism by a double modulation technique

In the first part of this paper an experimental setup using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) in combination with a photoelastic modulator (PEM) for linear dichroism measurements is described. The second part shows the influence of PEM-amplitude and scan-velocity on the sensitivity of the instrument. The third part deals with the fringe-problem in the baselines of absorbance spectra and its influence on the determination of the linear dichroic ratio.

Design and performance evaluation of a high power density EMI filter for PWM inverter-fed induction motor drives

This paper presents the design of an electromagnetic interference (EMI) filter for a low voltage high current induction motor drives supplied by DC power grids, such as those used in several vehicle applications. In order to effectively design the EMI filter a suitable Common Mode/Differential Mode (CM/DM) separation technique has been used. In consideration of the high operating currents, a software based separation technique using time domain measurements has been applied. Abstract The recognition of intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) is highly dependent on dynamics owing to the lack of structure. Here we studied the interplay between dynamics and molecular recognition in IDPs with a combination of time‐resolving tools on timescales ranging from femtoseconds to nanoseconds. We interrogated conformational dynamics and surface water dynamics and its attenuation upon partner binding using two IDPs, IBB and Nup153FG, both of central relevance to the nucleocytoplasmic transport machinery. Breast cancer cells exhibit selective modulation induced by different collagen substrates.

During the invasive phase of malignant tumors, neoplastic cells break into the basal lamina and enter in contact with the underlying connective tissue, which concurrently undergoes extensive modifications. The aim of our present minireview is to focus the changes in the collagenous matrix occurring during breast cancer progression and to explore the possible effects of different collagen substrates on breast cancer cell behavior and proteomic modulation.
