Effect of Superbasic Ionic Liquids on the Synthesis of Dendritic PolyaminesviaAza-Michael Addition Reaction
2017
Catalytic effect of selected superbasic ionic liquids on the yield and selectivity of aza-Michael addition of ethylenediamine and ammonia to acrylonitrile was investigated. The reactions were performed in calorimetric reactor equipped with RT-IR probe (real-time IR), where all energy changes associated with chemical reactions and physical transformations were monitored. Catalytic activity of selected superbasic ionic liquids in aza-Michael addition ethylenediamine and ammonia to acrylonitrile were determined and obtained polynitriles were then hydrogenatated to final three- and four-directional dendritic polyamines. The products were characterized by instrumental analytical methods, includi…
Photolysis of Tertiary Amines in the Presence of CO2: The Paths to Formic Acid, α-Amino Acids, and 1,2-Diamines
2017
The photolysis of triethylamine (1a) in the presence of carbon dioxide leads to the hydrogenation of CO2, the α-C-C coupling of triethylamine (1a), and the CO2-insertion into the α-C-H σ-bond of amine 1a. This reaction is proposed to proceed through the radical ion pair [R3N·+·CO2·-] generated by the photoionization of amine 1a and the electron capture by CO2. The presence of lithium tetrafluoroborate in the reaction medium promotes the efficient and stereoselective α-C-C coupling of 1a by enhancing the production of α-dialkylamino radicals and the isomerization of N,N,N',N'-tetraethylbutane-2,3-diamine (4a).
2-Methyltetrahydrofuran: A Green Solvent for Iron-Catalyzed Cross-Coupling Reactions
2018
Iron‐catalyzed cross‐coupling reactions allow sustainable formation of C−C bonds using cost‐effective, earth‐abundant base‐metal catalysis for complex syntheses of pharmaceuticals, natural products, and fine chemicals. The major challenge to maintain full sustainability of the process is the identification of green and renewable solvents that can be harnessed to replace the conventional solvents for this highly attractive reaction. Herein, iron‐catalyzed cross‐coupling of aryl chlorides and tosylates with challenging organometallic reagents possessing β‐hydrogens is found to proceed in good to excellent yields with the green, sustainable, and eco‐friendly 2‐methyltetrahydrofuran (2‐MeTHF) a…
Sensing and discrimination of cyanide and hydrogen sulfide using an 8-alkenyl-4,4-difluoro-4-bora-3a,4a-diaza-s-indacene derivative
2016
8-(2-Phenylethenyl)BODIPY has been shown to be an appropriate chromo-fluorogenic probe for cyanide in H2O. Good selectivity and LOD values below the allowed cyanide concentration in drinking water were attained. Cyanide can be discriminated from hydrogen sulphide by an oxidation process with hydrogen peroxide.
Functionalised diimidazolium salts: the anion effect on the catalytic ability
2016
The catalytic ability of some functionalised diimidazolium ionic liquids was tested using the Michael addition of malononitrile to t-chalcone as probe reaction. Diimidazolium salts characterized by the presence of 1-(1-imidazolylmethyl)-3,5-di-[1-(3-octylimidazolylmethyl)]benzene cation and differing in the anion structure were used. Both mono- and dianions were employed and among these some chiral anions generally used as organocatalysts were taken into account. Data collected were analysed both as function of ionic liquids structure and basicity, evaluated using the Hammett basicity function. Although the use of chiral anions did not allow performing a stereochemical control of the reacti…
E,Z-Stereodivergent synthesis of N-tosyl α,β-dehydroamino esters via a Mukaiyama-Michael addition
2016
The stereodivergent synthesis of N-tosyl α,β-dehydroamino esters via a Mukaiyama–Michael addition is reported. The reaction of silylketene acetals with N-tosylimines derived from β,γ-unsaturated α-keto esters in dichloromethane provided the corresponding (Z)-α,β-dehydroamino esters while the (E)-isomers were obtained when the reaction was carried out in the presence of 10 mol% copper(II) triflate.
Exploratory Synthesis of Low-Silica Nanozeolites through Geopolymer Chemistry
2019
Nanozeolites are of great interest with the premise of their efficiency in traditional applications such as catalysis and separation, as well as their emerging applications including chemical sensors, medicine, and food industry. We report a new geopolymerization route for the synthesis of nanozeolites with different crystal structures by exploring the Na–Al–Si–H2O quaternary phase space under a mild hydrothermal condition. Nanostructured faujasite (FAU), cancrinite (CAN), and sodalite (SOD) zeolites with a crystallite size smaller than 40 nm were successfully produced from our exploration, as well as a submicron-sized Linde-Type A (LTA) zeolite. The transmission electron microscopy and nit…
A Generalized Semiempirical Approach to the Modeling of the Optical Band Gap of Ternary Al-(Ga, Nb, Ta, W) Oxides Containing Different Alumina Polymo…
2021
A generalization of the modeling equation of optical band gap values for ternary oxides, as a function of cationic ratio composition, is carried out based on the semiempirical correlation between the differences in the electronegativity of oxygen and the average cationic electronegativity proposed some years ago. In this work, a novel approach is suggested to account for the differences in the band gap values of the different polymorphs of binary oxides as well as for ternary oxides existing in different crystalline structures. A preliminary test on the validity of the proposed modeling equations has been carried out by using the numerous experimental data pertaining to alumina and gallia p…
A family of layered chiral porous magnets exhibiting tunable ordering temperatures.
2013
A simple change of the substituents in the bridging ligand allows tuning of the ordering temperatures, Tc, in the new family of layered chiral magnets A[M(II)M(III)(X2An)3]·G (A = [(H3O)(phz)3](+) (phz = phenazine) or NBu4(+); X2An(2-) = C6O4X2(2-) = 2,5-dihydroxy-1,4-benzoquinone derivative dianion, with M(III) = Cr, Fe; M(II) = Mn, Fe, Co, etc.; X = Cl, Br, I, H; G = water or acetone). Depending on the nature of X, an increase in Tc from ca. 5.5 to 6.3, 8.2, and 11.0 K (for X = Cl, Br, I, and H, respectively) is observed in the MnCr derivative. Furthermore, the presence of the chiral cation [(H3O)(phz)3](+), formed by the association of a hydronium ion with three phenazine molecules, lead…
Equipping metallo-supramolecular macrocycles with functional groups: Assemblies of pyridine-substituted urea ligands
2012
A series of di-(m-pyridyl)-urea ligands were prepared and characterized with respect to their conformations by NOESY experiments and crystallography. Methyl substitution in different positions of the pyridine rings provides control over the position of the pyridine N atoms relative to the urea carbonyl group. The ligands were used to self-assemble metallo-supramolecular M(2)L(2) and M(3)L(3) macrocycles which are generated in a finely balanced equilibrium in DMSO and DMF according to DOSY NMR experiments and ESI FTICR mass spectrometry. Again, crystallography was used to characterize the assemblies. Methyl substitution in positions next to the pyridine nitrogen prevents coordination, while …
