Dynamic Stabilization of the Ligand-Metal Interface in Atomically Precise Gold Nanoclusters Au68 and Au144 Protected by meta-Mercaptobenzoic Acid

Ligand-stabilized, atomically precise gold nanoclusters with a metal core of a uniform size of just 1–3 nm constitute an interesting class of nanomaterials with versatile possibilities for applications due to their size-dependent properties and modifiable ligand layers. The key to extending the usability of the clusters in applications is to understand the chemical bonding in the ligand layer as a function of cluster size and ligand structure. Novel Tetramethoxy Resorcinarene Bis-Crown Ethers

The synthesis and characterization of new tetramethoxy resorcinarene bis-crown ethers BC4 and BC5 are described. The complexation properties of the compounds toward alkali metal cations were studied by 1H NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography, which revealed that BC5 can accommodate two cations simultaneously inside the crown pockets formed by the crown ether bridges and the resorcinarene skeleton. Polyamides 3 containing constant and definite numbers of oxyethylene units were prepared by condensation polymerization of suitable diamines and diesters, both of which containing oxyethylene units. The polymer structure was determined by IR and 1H NMR spectroscopy. Almost all polymers are crystals melting at ≈ 40°C and show a complexation ability towards alkalimetal cations. Reaction of the racemic [Pd(C(6)H(4)PPh(2))Br](4) () with the silver salt of 1R-(1alpha,2beta,3alpha)]-3-methyl-2-(nitromethyl)-5-oxocyclopentaneacetate, (R)-AgO(2)CR*, results in the formation of a mixture of diastereoisomers (RRR)- and (SRR)- of the formula Pd(2)(C(6)H(4)PPh(2))(2)(O(2)CR*)(2) that were separated by standard chromatographic methods. Synthesis of a New pH-Dependent Ligand: Conformational and Complexation Studies

A new macrocyclic ligand, 3, which exhibits pH-induced conformational changes, has been prepared. This ligand consists of a crown ether derived from a trans-anti-trans 1,2,4,5-tetrasubstituted cyclohexane. Due to the stereochemistry of the substituents on the carbocyclic ring, two different low-energy conformations of the crown ether are possible. Ligand 3 has been studied in solution by 1H NMR spectroscopy at different values of pH and temperature, showing that the conformation of the crown ether, and thus its complexing ability, is strongly pH-dependent. The solid-state structure of the ligand has been determined by X-ray diffraction.

Abstract A polysaccharide isolated after mild acid degradation of the lipopolysaccharide of Vibrio vulnificus clinical isolate YJ016 was found to contain l -Fuc, d -GlcpNAc, 2,4-diacetamido-2,4,6-trideoxy- d -glucose (di-N-acetylbacillosamine, d -QuiNAc4NAc), and 2-acetimidoylamino-2-deoxy- l -galacturonic acid ( l -GalNAmA). The last sugar derivative was confirmed by correlations for nitrogen-linked protons in 2D TOCSY and ROESY spectra measured in a H2O–D2O mixture. The hydrazinolysis reaction of 5-perfluoroalkyl-1,2,4-oxadiazoles with hydrazine or methylhydrazine as bidentate nucleophiles has been investigated. The reaction occurred through the addition of the bidentate nucleophile to the C(5)-N(4) double bond of the 1,2,4-oxadiazole followed by ring-opening and ring-closure (ANRORC) involving the second nucleophilic site of the reagent. Binding and Fluorescent Sensing of Dicarboxylates by a Bis(calix[4]pyrrole)-Substituted BODIPY Dye

A bis(calix[4]pyrrole)-substituted BODIPY ditopic receptor 1 has been synthesised and characterised. The binding and sensing properties of 1 towards several aliphatic and aromatic dicarboxylates have been evaluated by using UV/Vis fluorescence and 1H NMR spectroscopy. The receptor strongly binds linear α,ω-dicarboxylates of appropriate lengths (C9 and C10) by acting as a cleft. For all dicarboxylates, the binding event is detected by a bathochromic shift in the UV/Vis spectra of the receptor and by strong quenching of its fluorescence.

Synthesis of Both Ionic Species of Ammonium Dithiocarbamate Derived Cholic Acid Moieties

The reaction of 3-aminopropylamide of cholic acid with CS₂ produced a bile acid derivative of dithiocarbamic acid which further formed an ammonium salt with another molecule of 3-aminopropylamide of cholic acid. The cationic 3-ammonium propylamide of cholic acid did not react further with CS₂ and the formed salt was stable in the reaction mixture, even when excess CS₂ was used. When the reaction was carried out in the presence of aqueous sodium hydroxide, only the bile acid derivative of sodium dithiocarbamate was formed. The dithiocarbamate derivatives were characterized by ¹H- and ¹³C-NMR spectroscopy and ESI-TOF mass spectrometry. peerReviewed
