Services provided by soil microorganisms to improve plant phosphate nutrition
2022
Since the first Green Revolution, agricultural practices have been based on the massive use of synthetic fertilisers and plant protection products. Since then, global consumption of phosphate fertilisers has more than tripled, reaching 47 million tonnes in 2019. Current projections estimate that phosphate rock stocks (natural phosphorus resources for fertiliser production) could be depleted within the next century, leading us to change our agricultural practices. In soils, P is mainly present in complexed forms that are not easily accessible to plants. To reduce the use of phosphate fertilisers, it is necessary to make this complexed phosphate accessible to plants. This can be done by benef…

Mitochondrial genotyping of isolates of the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus "Glomus intraradices" from the isolate collection of the International Bank…
2011
International audience; The culture collection of the International Bank of Glomeromycota (BEG) provides an important service to scientific community and industry by acting as a repository for well-defined AMF isolates which are made available to the public. The most widely-used species has been referred to as "Glomus intraradices", and was recently renamed Rhizophagus irregularis. This species has emerged as a model organism for experimental research and is the subject of the first AMF genome to be sequenced. The only genetic marker that can currently be used to distinguish strains of R. irregularis in field settings is the mitochondrial large subunit (mtLSU). In addition, genetically dist…

Role of the AM interaction on S-uptake and S-starvation resistance in Medicago truncatula
2010
Sulphur is an essential macronutrient for plant growth, development, and response to various abiotic and biotic stresses due to its key role in the biosynthesis of many S-containing compounds. Sulphate represents a very small portion of soil S pull and it’s the only form that plant roots can uptake and mobilize through H+-dependent co-transport processes implying sulphate transporters. Unlike the other organically bound forms of S, sulphate is normally leached from soils due to its solubility in water, thus reducing its availability to plants. Although our knowledge of plant sulphate transporters has been growing significantly in the last decades, little is still known about the effect of t…
Effect of Arbuscular Mycorrhiza establishment on the genetic structure and functionality of bacterial communities in the rhizosphere of Medicago trun…
2007
Bacterial communities associated with (i) M. Truncatula J5 (Myc+/Nod+) and TRV48 (Myc+/Nod-), and with (ii) M. Truncatula TRV25 (Myc-/Nod-) were compared. The genetic structure of communities was characterized with an A-RISA DNA fingerprint. The genetic structures of communities associated with mycorrhizal and non-mycorrhizal roots were significantly different. Bacteria belonging to the Oxalobacteraceae and Comamonadaceae families were preferentially associated with mycorrhizal roots. The genetic diversity of cultured bacteria belonging to these groups was analysed by BOX-PCR. The diversity of isolates from mycorrhizal and non-mycorrhizal roots was significantly different. The functionality…
Evaluation of viticultural practices on arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi associated with grapevine
2021
Arbuscular mycorrhiza, a mutualistic symbiosis established between plants and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), provides many ecosystem services such as improved soil structure, increased plant growth and nutrition, and improved tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses. However, intensive agricultural practices and the use of phytosanitary products as for example herbicide and fungicides, have a strong impact on communities of soil microorganisms, including arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, as well as on biological mechanisms within the ecosystem. This thesis wotk is part of the European Biovine project supported by the European Commission through the CORE Organic Cofund. The aim of this rese…
