Injectable in situ forming hydrogels based on natural and synthetic polymers for potential application in cartilage repair

In this work we prepared two new hyaluronic acid (HA) based in situ forming hydrogels for the potential treatment of articular cartilage damages. In particular the amino derivative of HA (HA-EDA) and its graft copolymer with α-elastin (HA-EDA-g-α-elastin) were crosslinked, in mild physiological conditions via Michael-type addition, with α,β-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)-dl-aspartamide (PHEA) derivatized with divinylsulfone (DV). Progress in Understanding of the Interactions between Functionalized Polyolefins and Organo-Layered Double Hydroxides

The dispersion of organo-layered double hydroxides (O-LDH) in functionalized polyolefins (POs) is investigated. Two different polyethylene matrices (maleic anhydride (MAH) and diethyl maleate functionalized) are tested and a hydrogenated fatty acid modified LDH is used. The attention is focused on evidencing the interaction between the functional groups of the polymer and the O-LDH through FT-IR. Moreover, a combination of solvent fractionation, morphological, and rheological characterizations enables to gain a deeper insight into the structure of these composites. It is generally assumed that turnover of the keratin filament system occurs by exchange of subunits along its entire length throughout the cytoplasm. We now present evidence that a circumscribed submembranous compartment is actually the main site for network replenishment. An Easy Way Towardɛ-Caprolactone Macromonomers by Microwave Irradiation Using Early Lanthanide Halides as Catalysts

Poly(e-caprolactone) macromonomers were synthesized under microwave irradiation from commercial caprolactone, using commercial hydrated lanthanide halides as catalysts. The molecular weight of the polymers was in the range 3 000–5 000. Higher molecular weights (5 000–20 000) and lower polydispersity indices were obtained with THF adducts of the lanthanide halides as catalysts and also by applying longer reaction times or using diethylene glycol as a coupling reagent.

In the past, a whole aray of polymeric carriers for biologically active substances have been reported. In this field the main interest has focused on the use of randomly solubilized polymers. Naturally occuring amphiphilic transport proteins can be modelled by synthetic micellar solubilized polymers. Poly(ethylene oxide)-polypeptide block copolymers with hydrophobic and cyclophosphamide-containing side groups are described. These micellar systems are able to transport different hydrophobic drugs.

The interactions of poly (4-vinyl pyridine) with dimyristoylphosphatidic acid-based liposomes were studied in heterogeneous solution systems. The polymer was dispersed in aqueous buffer solutions of small unilamellar vesicles and after a suitable period of incubation to raise the equilibrium, the experiments has been conducted as a function of polymer concentration and temperature. The method of synthesis of photosensitive polyurethanes polymers on glycerine, toluenediisocyanate and Disperse Red 1 base has been described. Two types of polymers with different amount of Disperse Red 1 fragments in macromolecules were compared. Films of the polymers were obtained from solutions in organic solvents on glass substrate. The dry film thickness was in the range of 3,5 - 4.5 μm. The transmission spectrums of the films were studied. Possibility of formation of side product in the process of synthesis was observed. Abstract A new family of semirigid main chain liquid crystalline polymers (LCPs), referred to as SBAN, characterized by fairly good processability and mechanical properties, and improved thermal resistance, have been synthesized by the melt polycondensation of sebacic acid (S), 4,4′-dihyhxybiphenyl (B), 4-aminobenzoic acid (A), and 2-hydroxy-6-naphthoic acid (N), in a wide range of compositions. The molar concentration of the A ahd N units, in these LCPs must be kept lower than ca 40 and 60%, respectively, in order to avoid the formation of homopolymeric blocks, which impair spinnability.
