Abstract This study proposes a simple multiresidue liquid chromatography–diode array detector (LC–DAD) method capable of determining seven macrolide antibiotics in samples of liver and kidney animals at concentrations lower than those allowed by current legislation. Samples were prepared by homogenizing the tissue with EDTA–McIlvaine's buffer and extracted with an Oasis HLB cartridge. The consumption of organic solvent during extraction was minimum. The analytes were detected by LC–DAD and also by liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry with electrospray ionization (LC–(ESI)MS). Cyclam-functionalized silica-modified electrodes for selective determination of Cu(II)

Cyclam derivatives have been grafted via 1, 2 or 4 silylated arms to the surface of mesoporous silica and the resulting materials have been incorporated into carbon paste electrodes and applied to the preconcentration electroanalysis of Cu(II). Sensitive and selective detection of the target analyte was achieved owing to the attractive binding properties of this macrocyclic ligand towards Cu(II) species. Tips on ligand immobilization and kinetic study using surface plasmon resonance.

Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) technique offers a robust label-free approach applicable in various investigations including binding affinity, specificity and kinetics of biological macromolecules (e.g., peptides, proteins and nucleotidase) and small molecules. SPR provides extremely important data on the kinetics and affinity of substances examined, through which bio-specific interaction(s) can be established by the analysis of adsorption of analyte onto the immobilized ligand(s) on a sensor-based analytical system. Due to SPR wide applications in biomedical laboratories, the aim of this editorial is to highlight the importance of SPR in affinity kinetics and ligand immobilization.

The last decades have delineated many interactions of the hemostatic system with cancer cells that are pivotal for cancer-associated thrombosis, angiogenesis and metastasis. Expanding evidence shows that platelets, the tissue factor pathway, and proteolytic signaling involving protease-activated receptors (PARs) are also central players in innate and adaptive immunity. Characterization of poly(4-vinylpyridine 1-oxide) by free-solution capillary electrophoresis and micellar electrokinetic chromatography

The migration characteristics of poly(4-vinylpyridine 1-oxide) (PVP-NO) in phosphate buffers of acidic pH (20 mM H 3 PO 4 or NaH 2 PO 4 ) have been studied using both free-solution capillary electrophoresis (FSCE) and MEKC. To inhibit adsorption, 250 mM o-phosphoethanolamine (2-aminoethyl dihydrogen phosphate) was used. In FSCE, PVP-NO showed a narrow peak and a broader band, both having anionic behavior. These peak and band were attributed to the free and aggregated or micellized PVP-NO forms, respectively. Characterization and determination of poly(vinylpyrrolidone) by complexation with an anionic azo-dye and nonequilibrium capillary electrophoresis

Using capillary zone electrophoresis in nonequilibrium conditions, the complexes of poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) with anionic azo-dyes dissociate following a first-order kinetics. Two peaks due to the remaining PVP-dye complexes and the equilibrium concentration of the free dye, plus an exponential region due to the dye liberated by the complexes during the electrophoretic run, are obtained. The interaction of the biologically relevant anions deriving from the six pyridinedicarboxylic acids (H2PDC) with two macrocyclic receptors containing a pentamine chain and a bipyridine (1) or a phenanthroline (2) moiety, as well as with the aliphatic analogue [21]aneN7 (3), was studied by means of spectroscopic methods (UV-vis, NMR) and potentiometric titrations affording the stability constants of the adducts formed.
