Magnetic properties of Cd–Mg–Tb quasicrystal

2004

Abstract The magnetic properties of an icosahedral Cd–Mg–Tb quasicrystal were studied by dc magnetization and thermoremanent magnetization time decay measurements. An unusual temperature dependence of the susceptibility below freezing temperature can be attributed to the inhomogeneous sample structure. In addition to the quasicrystalline portion which exhibits a spin-glass transition at 12.5 K a part of the sample behaves like a paramagnet. During aging of the sample in air the spin-glass part transforms into the paramagnetic one. The linear M ∝ H dependence of the thermoremanent magnetization time decay on magnetic field is quite different as compared to canonical spin glasses.

Epitaxial film growth and magnetic properties ofCo2FeSi

2006

We have grown thin films of the Heusler compound ${\mathrm{Co}}_{2}\mathrm{Fe}\mathrm{Si}$ by RF magnetron sputtering. On (100)-oriented MgO substrates we find fully epitaxial (100)-oriented and $L{2}_{1}$ ordered growth. On ${\mathrm{Al}}_{2}{\mathrm{O}}_{3}(11\overline{2}0)$ substrates, the film growth is (110)-oriented, and several in-plane epitaxial domains are observed. The temperature dependence of the electrical resistivity shows a power law with an exponent of $7∕2$ at low temperatures. Investigation of the bulk magnetic properties reveals an extrapolated saturation magnetization of $5.0{\ensuremath{\mu}}_{B}∕\mathrm{f.u.}$ at $0\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{K}$. The films on $…

Hyperpolarization of cis ‐ 15 N 2 ‐Azobenzene by Parahydrogen at Ultralow Magnetic Fields**

2021

The development of nuclear spins hyperpolarization, and the search for molecules that can be efficiently hyperpolarized is an active area in nuclear magnetic resonance. In this work we present a detailed study of SABRE SHEATH (signal amplification by reversible exchange in shield enabled alignment transfer to heteronuclei) experiments on 15 N2 -azobenzene. In SABRE SHEATH experiments the nuclear spins of the target are hyperpolarized through transfer of spin polarization from parahydrogen at ultralow fields during a reversible chemical process. Azobenzene exists in two isomers, trans and cis. We show that all nuclear spins in cis-azobenzene can be efficiently hyperpolarized by SABRE at suit…

Giant Edelstein effect in Topological-Insulator--Graphene heterostructures

2017

The control of a ferromagnet's magnetization via only electric currents requires the efficient generation of current-driven spin-torques. In magnetic structures based on topological insulators (TIs) current-induced spin-orbit torques can be generated. Here we show that the addition of graphene, or bilayer graphene, to a TI-based magnetic structure greatly enhances the current-induced spin density accumulation and significantly reduces the amount of power dissipated. We find that this enhancement can be as high as a factor of 100, giving rise to a giant Edelstein effect. Such a large enhancement is due to the high mobility of graphene (bilayer graphene) and to the fact that the graphene (bil…

Effect of DC Electric Field on the Emitted THz Signal of Antenna-Coupled Spintronic Emitters

2019

We study the impact of an external electric DC field on antenna-coupled spintronic THz emitters driven by a 90 fs, 1550 nm laser oscillator. Simultaneous application of external electric and magnetic field shows a quadratic decrease in peak-peak THz pulse with increase in the bias voltage. We ascribe this decrease to Joule heating caused by the DC current flowing through the spintronic material.

Bimetallic MnIII–FeII hybrid complexes formed by a functionalized MnIII Anderson polyoxometalate coordinated to FeII: observation of a field-induced …

2015

The synthesis and crystal structure of an Anderson POM functionalized with two 2,6-di(pyrazol-1-yl)-pyridine (1-bpp) ligands are reported (compound 1). High-frequency electron paramagnetic resonance (HF-EPR) and magnetic measurements show that it presents a significant negative axial zero-field splitting and field-induced slow relaxation of magnetization due to the presence of isolated MnIII anisotropic magnetic ions. Complexation of 1 with FeII gives rise to a 2D cationic network formed by Anderson POMs coordinated to two FeII ions through the two tridentate 1-bpp ligands and to other two FeII ions through two oxo ligands in compound 2, and to an anionic polymeric network formed by Anderso…

Magnetic Langmuir–Blodgett films of ferritin with different iron loadings

2005

Abstract Magnetic Langmuir–Blodgett multilayers of two ferritin molecules 1 and 2 , containing, respectively, 4220 and 3062 Fe atoms have been prepared by using the adsorption properties of a 6/1 mixed monolayer of dioctadecyldimethylammonium bromide (DODABr) and methyl stearate (SME). Transfer ratios close to unity were reached giving rise to LB films with a strong red colour. Infrared and UV–vis spectroscopy indicates that ferritin molecules are incorporated within the LB films. Magnetic measurements show that the superparamagnetic properties of these molecules are preserved. Thus, a marked hysteresis loop of magnetisation is obtained for LB films of 1 and 2 with a coercive field of 3400 …

Domain Wall Spin Structures in Mesoscopic Fe Rings probed by High Resolution SEMPA

2016

We present a combined theoretical and experimental study of the energetic stability and accessibility of different domain wall spin configurations in mesoscopic magnetic iron rings. The evolution is investigated as a function of the width and thickness in a regime of relevance to devices, while Fe is chosen as a material due to its simple growth in combination with attractive magnetic properties including high saturation magnetization and low intrinsic anisotropy. Micromagnetic simulations are performed to predict the lowest energy states of the domain walls, which can be either the transverse or vortex wall spin structure, in good agreement with analytical models, with further simulations …

A human post-mortem brain model for the standardization of multi-centre MRI studies

2015

Multi-centre MRI studies of the brain are essential for enrolling large and diverse patient cohorts, as required for the investigation of heterogeneous neurological and psychiatric diseases. However, the multi-site comparison of standard MRI data sets that are weighted with respect to tissue parameters such as the relaxation times (T1, T2) and proton density (PD) may be problematic, as signal intensities and image contrasts depend on site-specific details such as the sequences used, imaging parameters, and sensitivity profiles of the radiofrequency (RF) coils. Water or gel phantoms are frequently used for long-term and/or inter-site quality assessment. However, these phantoms hardly mimic t…

Insertion of a single-molecule magnet inside a ferromagnetic lattice based on a 3D bimetallic oxalate network: Towards molecular analogues of permane…

2014

The insertion of the single-molecule magnet (SMM) [MnIII(salen) (H2O)]2 2+ (salen2-=N,N-ethylenebis- (salicylideneiminate)) into a ferromagnetic bimetallic oxalate network affords the hybrid compound [MnIII(salen)(H2O)] 2[MnIICrIII(ox)3] 2×(CH3OH)×(CH3CN)2 (1). This cationic Mn2 cluster templates the growth of crystals formed by an unusual achiral 3D oxalate network. The magnetic properties of this hybrid magnet are compared with those of the analogous compounds [Mn III(salen)(H2O)]2[ZnIICr III(ox)3]2×(CH3OH) ×(CH3CN)2 (2) and [InIII(sal 2-trien)][MnIICrIII(ox)3] ×(H2O)0.25×(CH3OH) 0.25×(CH3CN)0.25 (3), which are used as reference compounds. In 2 it has been shown that the magnetic isolatio…
