Managers’ Perceptions of Delivered Value in the Hospitality Industry

2015

Although management literature has deeply reported the importance of assessing customers’ value perceptions, little attention has been paid to managers’ value perceptions (delivered value). This article presents a conceptual model of relationships between delivered value and customer orientation, service culture, and managers’ perception of customer satisfaction, tested with mulitblock PLS among 200 hospitality managers. Additionally, we present an index on a multidimensional scale of delivered value built with multitable analysis. Results support the proposed conceptual model and show increasing intensities of both the links in the model and the index by different hotel categories. The res…

Consumers in Information Technology Enabled Service Encounters: Perceptions and Tradeoffs in Multi-Channel Interactions

2015

This study examines information technology enabled, multi-channel service context from the end-user's perspective and, more specifically, from the perspective of a consumer, in particular the extent to which the multi-channel interaction experience results in consumer satisfaction and any tradeoffs that consumers make in the evaluation of the context of service. Empirical results from our online survey with mobile consumers indicate that the variables included in the model have a direct impact on consumer satisfaction when considered individually. There are, however, tradeoffs between variables (e.g., problem-handling and record accuracy; scalability and usability of service) when considere…

Consumer-Generated Reviews on Social Media and Brand Relationship Outcomes in the Fast-Food Chain Industry

2017

A number of studies agree on the fact that social media users tend to trust more the contents created by other users than those generated by companies’ marketing departments or advertising agencies. However, little is known regarding whether social media can actually enhance brand trust and other brand relationship outcomes that are deemed critical to the hospitality marketing literature. This paper seeks to offer some important insight on this issue by examining the impact of consumer-generated reviews on social media on four main pillars of the relationship marketing paradigm, i.e., satisfaction, trust, commitment, and loyalty. The inter-relationship between brand outcomes is also examine…

2012

The concept of integrated marketing communications (IMC) has received considerable attention in the marketing literature over the past decade. Boosted by advancements in information and communication technology (ICT), IMC is starting to be considered as an element that contributes to creation of brand equity. This research studies, in greater detail, the IMC, ICT, and brand-equity concepts in the hotel sector, while adopting a consumer-centric approach. In particular, it intends to describe the relationships that exist between these variables through the causal model of investigation. Young Consumers’ Boycotting Profiles in the UK and Finland : A Comparative Analysis

2022

This study uses latent profile analysis to identify boycotting subgroups within Finland and the UK and to explore their potential differences across countries. These subgroups are based on how young British and Finnish consumers assess that reference groups and their personal experiences have influenced their boycotting decisions. This study is based on comparative data obtained from the UK (n = 1,236) and Finland (n = 1,219). We identified four boycotting profiles: unlikely to be influenced, influenced by personal things, likely to be influenced, and moderately likely to be influenced. Our findings are especially relevant to consumer researchers, brands, and companies. peerReviewed

The effects of message framing in CSR advertising on consumers’ emotions, attitudes, and behavioral intentions

2022

While recent research on sustainability communication demonstrates the relevance of message framing, research on the effects of message framing on consumers' emotions is scant. Using the Stimulus-Organism-Response (5-0-R) framework, this paper examines the impact of environmental advertisements (stimuli) on two discrete emotions - hope and guilt - (organism) and how these emotions influence consumers' behavioral intentions (responses). Relying on the prospect theory, this study focuses on positive (gain) and negative (loss) frames. Study 1 shows that, in the context of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), a gain message elicits hope while a loss-message triggers guilt. Study 2 shows that …
