Structural and magnetic studies of tetranuclear heterometallic M/Cr (M = Co, Mn) complexes self-assembled from zerovalent cobalt or manganese, Reinec…
2010
Abstract Four novel heterometallic complexes [Co2Cr2(NCS)4(HDea)2(Dea)2]·4dmf (1), [Co2Cr2(NCS)4(HDea)2(Dea)2]·4dmso (2), [Mn2Cr2(NCS)4(HDea)2(Dea)2(dmf)2]·2dmf (3) and [Mn2Cr2(NCS)4(HDea)2(Dea)2(dmso)2]·4dmso (4) have been prepared using zerovalent cobalt (1, 2) or manganese (3, 4), Reineckes salt, ammonium thiocyanate and a non-aqueous solution of diethanolamine (H2Dea) in air. The single X-ray analysis reveals that all compounds have similar centrosymmetric crystal structures based on a tetranuclear {M2Cr2(μ3-O)2(μ-O)4} (M = Co, Mn) core. Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements of 1, 2 and 4 show antiferromagnetic coupling between the magnetic centers, while 3 exhibits …
Thioester-functionalised and oxime-based hexametallic manganese(iii) single-molecule magnets
2017
Two novel hexametallic MnIII complexes of formulae [Mn6(μ3-O)2(H2N-sao)6(3-atpa)2(EtOH)6]·2EtOH·2H2O (1) and [Mn6(μ3-O)2(H2N-sao)6(6-atha)2(EtOH)6]·6EtOH (2) [H2N-saoH2 = salicylamidoxime, 3-hatpa = 3-(acetylthio)propionic acid, 6-hatha = 6-(acetylthio)hexanoic acid] have been synthesised by using thioester-carboxylate ligands and magnetostructurally characterised. 1 crystallises in the triclinic system with space group P and 2 crystallises in the monoclinic system with space group P21/c. The study of the dc and ac magnetic susceptibility reveals single-molecule magnet behaviour for both compounds with spin-ground states S = 12 and S = 4 for 1 and 2, respectively. Hence, 1 and 2 are new mem…
Synthesis and characterisation of polymeric manganese and zinc 5-hydroxyisophthalates
2001
Abstract The crystallisation of 5-hydroxyisophthalic acid with divalent Mn or with Mn or Zn and either 2,2-bipyridine (2,2-bipy) or pyridine-2-(1H-pyrazol-3-yl) gave solids of composition [Mn(C8H4O5)(H2O)3]·2H2O (1), [Mn(C8H4O5)(2,2′-bipy)]·H2O (2), [Mn2(C8H4O5)2(C8H7N3)2]·H2O (3) and [Zn(C8H4O5)(2,2′-bipy)] (4). Each compound has 1D co-ordinative chains that are connected by hydrogen bonds. Compounds 2–4 contain M2C2O4 rings with pseudo-chair geometries. The Mn atoms in 2 are coupled antiferromagnetically.
Progress in polymeric material for hydrogen storage application in middle conditions
2014
Hydrogen sorption using a manganese oxide anchored to PEEK (Poly(ether-ether-keton)) matrix was studied. The functionalization process and the obtained results on hydrogen storage capability of the synthesized polymer are reported. The functionalised polymer was characterised by Scanning Electron Microscopy, Transmission Electron Microscopy, X-ray diffraction and Volumetric Hydrogen sorption measurements. Different synthesis conditions in terms of precursor concentration and reaction time were used and the direct correlation between manganese oxide percentage and hydrogen storage capability was confirmed. In this way different powders were synthesised. It is assumed that the sample with 78 …

Langmuir–Blodgett films based on inorganic molecular complexes with magnetic or optical properties
2005
Langmuir and Langmuir–Blodgett (LB) films of a great variety of molecular metal complexes with interesting magnetic or optical properties have been prepared in the last few years. Some of the results obtained by our group and others are summarized in this article. (i) LB films of polyoxometalates (POM) were first prepared taking advantage of the adsorption properties of these cluster anions along a positively charged monolayer of an organic surfactant spread in water. A correct choice of the POM allowed the preparation of LB films with magnetic, electrochromic, or luminescent properties. Besides this semiamphiphilic method, two new methods to prepare LB films of POMs have been developed by …
Identification of Manganese(IV) Centers in Archaeological Glass Using Microsample Coatings Attached to PolymerFilm Electrodes
2001
Identification of MnO2 nodulae in archaeological glass by linear scan and differential pulse voltammetry using abrasive-conditioned microsamples attached to polymer film (Elvacite 2044) electrodes is described. Voltammetric responses for manganese-containing samples parallels to those obtained for β- and γ-MnO2 upon immersion of modified electrodes into NaCl, KCl and acetic/acetate aqueous media. The observed electrochemical response provides information on the open microporous structure of the MnO2 forms and the conditions of their formation during the weathering process of buried glass.
Chemistry and reactivity of mononuclear manganese oxamate complexes: Oxidative carbon-carbon bond cleavage of vic-diols by dioxygen and aldehydes cat…
2006
[EN] Two new mononuclear octahedral manganese(III) complexes with the tetradentate equatorial ligand o-phenylenebis(oxamate) (opba) and two aquo (1a) or two pyridine (1b) axial ligands have been synthesized and characterized structurally, magnetically, and electrochemically. The cyclovoltammogram of 1a in acetonitrile (25 degrees C, 0.1 M Bu4NPF6) shows an irreversible one-electron oxidation peak at a high anodic potential (E-ap = 1.03 V versus SCE), while that of 1b shows two well-separated one-electron oxidation peaks at moderate to high anodic potentials (E-ap = 0.92 and 1.27 V versus SCE), the first redox-wave being quasireversible in nature. The access to formally high-valent Mn-IV and…
Manganese(III)-mediated oxidative carbon-carbon bond cleavage of the 1,10-phenanthroline-5,6-dione ligand
1999
[EN] A new manganese(III)-1,10-phenanthroline-5,6-dione (phendione) complex possessing a putative Mn-2(mu-O) (mu-O2CMe)(2) core has been found to undergo a Ligand-based oxidative cleavage of the C(5)-C(6) bond in weak acid aqueous MeOH under aerobic conditions at room temperature to yield 2,2'-bipyridyl-3,3'-dicarboxylate with co-reduction to the corresponding Mn-II-phendione species.
