Isolation of the DNA minisatellite probe MZ 1.3 and its application to DNA ‘fingerprinting’ analysis

1990

Abstract A minisatellite probe, MZ 1.3, detecting hypervariable fragment patterns was isolated from a human genomic library. A repetitive sequence of 27 bp length was identified which is contained in the probe approx. 40 times. The MZ 1.3 repeat shows variable homology of 53–73% to the repetitive sequence of the protein III gene of the bacteriophage M13 genome. Polymorphic restriction fragment patterns were found with MZ 1.3 using the enzymes Hinf I, BstN I, Hae III, Mbo I, PstI PvuII , and Rsa I. An average of 18 polymorphic fragments was observed using Hinf I as enzyme. The band sharing frequency after Hinf I digestion among unrelated individuals was determined to be 23.8 ± 7.2%. An examp…

Comparative genomic sequencing reveals a strikingly similar architecture of a conserved syntenic region on human chromosome 11p15.3 (including gene S…

2001

Comparative genomics is a superior way to identify phylogenetically conserved features like genes or regions involved in gene regulation. The comparison of extended orthologous chromosomal regions should also reveal other characteristic traits essential for chromosome or gene function. In the present study we have sequenced and compared a region of conserved synteny from human chromosome 11p15.3 and mouse chromosome 7. In human, this region is known to contain several genes involved in the development of various disorders like Beckwith-Wiedemann overgrowth syndrome and other tumor diseases. Furthermore, in the neighboring chromosome region 11p15.5 extensive imprinting of genes has been repo…

A satellite stand-alone procedure for deriving net radiation by using SEVIRI and MODIS products

2018

Abstract In this study, a new stand-alone satellite approach for the estimation of net surface radiation (Rn) has been implemented and validated for the Italian territory. The method uses the MODIS and MSG-SEVIRI time series products and it is independent of the use of ancillary data (i.e. ground measurements). A database of daily measurements of Rn, provided by 9 stations of the FLUXNET network, was used to validate the method in different ecological scenarios in the period 2010-12. The Rn modelled by the proposed approach and the corresponding FLUXNET measurements were in good agreement, with RMSE and R2 of 19.8 Wm−2 and 0.87, respectively, at 8-days scale, and 23.3 Wm−2 and 0.92, respect…

Redundant Picard–Fuchs System for Abelian Integrals

2001

We derive an explicit system of Picard-Fuchs differential equations satisfied by Abelian integrals of monomial forms and majorize its coefficients. A peculiar feature of this construction is that the system admitting such explicit majorants, appears only in dimension approximately two times greater than the standard Picard-Fuchs system. The result is used to obtain a partial solution to the tangential Hilbert 16th problem. We establish upper bounds for the number of zeros of arbitrary Abelian integrals on a positive distance from the critical locus. Under the additional assumption that the critical values of the Hamiltonian are distant from each other (after a proper normalization), we were…

Hypertrophic agonists induce the binding of c-Fos to an AP-1 site in cardiac myocytes: implications for the expression of GLUT1

2003

Objectives: Serum is among the agents known to induce hypertrophy of cardiac myocytes, which occurs concomitant with an increase in AP-1-mediated transcription. We have examined if this effect correlates with changes in the relative abundance of particular AP-1 heterodimers, as their exact composition under these conditions is unknown. Furthermore, we obtained insight on the specific role of c-Fos from studying the induction of the glucose transporter GLUT1 by serum in fibroblasts. Methods: We characterised the AP-1 heterodimers expressed in neonatal cardiac myocytes by supershift electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) analysis. Quantitative changes in transcription were measured using…

FISH mapping of the sex-reversal region on human chromosome 9p in two XY females and in primates

2000

Accumulating evidence suggests that haploinsufficiency of a dosage-sensitive gene(s) in human chromosome 9p24.3 is responsible for the failure of testicular development and feminisation in XY patients with monosomy for 9p. We have used molecular cytogenetic methods to characterise the sex-reversing 9p deletions in two XY females. Fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH) with YACs from the critical 9p region containing an evolutionarily conserved sex-determining gene, DMRT1, is a very fast and reliable assay for patient screening. Comparative YAC mapping on great ape and Old and New World monkey chromosomes demonstrated that the critical region was moved from an interstitial position on the…

La questione del confine italo-francese sul Monte Bianco

2020

Even though the common interest of France and Italy in relation to their Alpine border should be enhancing co-operation on cross-border issues (such as improving climate change adaptation as well as preventing and managing risks) a dispute on the delimitation of the border in the area around Monte Bianco has arisen in last years. As any other international dispute on territorial borders, it presents three different plans of analysis: the interpretation of boundary treaties and their official maps; the legal weight of “other” maps; the relationship between the boundary treaty and subsequent practice of the Parties (above all the relevance of effectivités). This article shortly discusses thes…

Motion Analysis for Dynamic 3D Scene Reconstruction and Understanding

2017

This thesis studies the problem of dynamic scene 3D reconstruction and understanding using a calibrated 2D-3D camera setup mounted on a mobile platform via the analysis of objects' motions. For static scenes, the sought 3D map reconstruction can be obtained by registering the point cloud sequence. However, with dynamic scenes, we require a prior step of moving object elimination, which yields to the motion detection and segmentation problems. We provide solutions for the two practical scenarios, namely the known and unknown camera motion cases, respectively. When camera motion is unknown, our 3D-SSC and 3D-SMR algorithms segment the moving objects by analysing their 3D feature trajectories.…

Functional correlate and delineated connectivity pattern of human motion aftereffect responses substantiate a subjacent visual-vestibular interaction.

2018

The visual motion aftereffect (MAE) is the most prominent aftereffect in the visual system. Regarding its function, psychophysical studies suggest its function to be a form of sensory error correction, possibly also triggered by incongruent visual-vestibular stimulation. Several observational imaging experiments have deducted an essential role for region MT+ in the perception of a visual MAE but not provided conclusive evidence. Potential confounders with the MAE such as ocular motor performance, attention, and vection sensations have also never been controlled for. Aim of this neuroimaging study was to delineate the neural correlates of MAE and its subjacent functional connectivity pattern…
