Managing Risk in Financial Market in Shipping Industry
2011
Based on the knowledge from shipping we would like to study one option strategy for investments on shipping stocks. Since the term paper is relatively short we have chosen one market segment, namely the offshore market, and one shipping company, namely Farstad Shipping. We will use the theory of freight rates from Martin Stopford`s book, Maritime economics, and apply it to the real world. The reason for this is that the freight rates are the income for the shipping companies. Furthermore we will use the financial information from Farstad Shipping to see what the value of Farstad Shipping stocks should be in the future. This we will do based on the freight rates in the offshore market. The m…
Outdoor Scenes Pixel-wise Semantic Segmentation using Polarimetry and Fully Convolutional Network
2019
International audience; In this paper, we propose a novel method for pixel-wise scene segmentation application using polarimetry. To address the difficulty of detecting highly reflective areas such as water and windows, we use the angle and degree of polarization of these areas, obtained by processing images from a polarimetric camera. A deep learning framework, based on encoder-decoder architecture, is used for the segmentation of regions of interest. Different methods of augmentation have been developed to obtain a sufficient amount of data, while preserving the physical properties of the polarimetric images. Moreover, we introduce a new dataset comprising both RGB and polarimetric images…
Loyalty Formation for Different Customer Journey Segments
2019
The proliferation of new touchpoints empowers today's customers to design their own journey from search to purchase. To address this new complexity, we segment customers by their use of specific touchpoints in the customer journey, investigate the association of several covariates with segment membership, consider the rise of mobile devices as potential "game changers" of existing segments, and explore how the relationships among product satisfaction, journey satisfaction, customer inspiration, and customer loyalty differ across segments. Based on anticipated utility theory and using latent class analyses on large-scale data from two samples of 2,443 and 2,649 journeys, we identify five tim…
Exploring the tourism markets’ convergence hypothesis in Italy
2020
This article aims at investigating the tourism markets’ convergence hypothesis across Italy’s 20 major source markets. To reach our goal, we use monthly data of tourist arrivals and overnights over the period 2008–2018 and the time-varying factor model developed by Phillips and Sul (2007, 2009). Our findings suggest the absence of full (absolute) convergence, leading us to accept the hypothesis of club convergence. We show that the traditionally more important source markets have a tendency to persist, while Asian countries show heterogeneous behaviour. Furthermore, the relative decline in the contribution to total arrivals and overnights of several international source markets calls for a…
Labour market segmentation in Spain: is legislation leading to a reduction in duality?
2016
Abstract: In the last decades, the Spanish legislature has expressed its concern regarding thenegative impact of the existing duality in its national labour market. Many of the employment Actsadopted in the last few years specifically mention this problem in their preambles. In order to analyse the effectiveness of the measures adopted about this question it is necessary tohighlight the two different ways to approach the problem of duality. On the one hand, the existing dualitycould be reduced by making the access to temporary contacts of employment harder (reducing thenumber and the possibilities of temporary contracts and increasing the labour cost of these contracts) Onthe other hand, pro…
Posted Migration and Segregation in the European Construction Sector
2015
Worker ‘posting’ or temporary migration of manual workers sent by their employers to work on projects abroad has become increasingly prominent in the European construction industry. It is now normal to find groups of workers from all around Europe on construction sites, living in nearby temporary accommodations, moving on to other projects or back home when the project is complete. This article highlights the interaction between the social and spatial segregation and transnational mobility of these workers in the European Union construction labour market. We argue that the work-focused and employer-dominated nature of the posted workers' social world abroad contributes to their segregation …
Trading activity and price impact in parallel markets: SETS vs. off-book market at the London Stock Exchange
2011
We empirically study the trading activity in the electronic on-book segment and in the dealership off-book segment of the London Stock Exchange, investigating separately the trading of active market members and of other market participants which are non-members. We find that (i) the volume distribution of off-book transactions has a significantly fatter tail than the one of on-book transactions, (ii) groups of members and non-members can be classified in categories according to their trading profile (iii) there is a strong anticorrelation between the daily inventory variation of a market member due to the on-book market transactions and inventory variation due to the off-book market transac…
Evaluating the Possibilities of Improving the Quality of Tourism Services of the “Eco- Guesthouses” from Mărginimea Sibiului
2015
This paper provides an overview of the possibilities of improving the quality of tourism services of the ”eco-guesthouses” from Marginimea Sibiului in the context where the international studies indicate that lately tourists have become more experienced and expect good quality products in chosen holiday destinations. Currently, the international market of ecotourism has developed with 10-12% annually, having the fastest growth in the world tourism sector and tending to become an independent market segment, under the influence of factors such as: travelers prefer to choose educational holidays, their desire to escape to nature and spend quality time with friends or family, etc. In these circ…
Segmenting the spectators of national team sports: the case of a pre-competition match
2015
It has become common for academics and sports marketing professionals to study and explain the heterogeneity and complexity of sports spectators' behaviours and attitudes, with numerous works addressing this topic But these surveys are more about fans of professional sports clubs (soccer, basketball, baseball, hockey, etc) who attend regular season games in their favourite teams' home stadium or arena. To our knowledge, very few studies have been conducted into spectators of national teams. It is these spectators who are of the focus of this paper.
Segmenting sport spectators: Construction and preliminary validation of the Sporting Event Experience Search (SEES) scale
2011
International audience; This study's goal was to create and test a tool for identifying different types of sport spectators. Based on four types of sporting-event consumers – aesthete, interactive, supporter, and opportunist – we developed the Sporting Event Experience Search Scale (SEES). We conducted an empirical investigation involving two sporting events with both live and mediated types of attendance. Although the first validation step failed to support the four-type structure for the mediated context, the scale appeared to be relevant in a live-attendance context. The SEES scale should therefore allow sporting-event managers to analyse the nature and then the expectations of sport spe…
