Algorithms for {K, s+1}-potent matrix constructions
2013
In this paper, we deal with {K, s + 1}-potent matrices. These matrices generalize all the following classes of matrices: k-potent matrices, periodic matrices, idempotent matrices, involutory matrices, centrosymmetric matrices, mirrorsymmetric matrices, circulant matrices, among others. Several applications of these classes of matrices can be found in the literature. We develop algorithms in order to compute {K, s + 1}-potent matrices and {K, s + 1}-potent linear combinations of {K, s + 1}-potent matrices. In addition, some examples are presented in order to show the numerical performance of the method. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
The Dirichlet-Bohr radius
2015
[EN] Denote by Ω(n) the number of prime divisors of n ∈ N (counted with multiplicities). For x ∈ N define the Dirichlet-Bohr radius P L(x) to be the best r > 0 such that for every finite Dirichlet polynomial n≤x ann −s we have X n≤x |an|r Ω(n) ≤ sup t∈R X n≤x ann −it . We prove that the asymptotically correct order of L(x) is (log x) 1/4x −1/8 . Following Bohr’s vision our proof links the estimation of L(x) with classical Bohr radii for holomorphic functions in several variables. Moreover, we suggest a general setting which allows to translate various results on Bohr radii in a systematic way into results on Dirichlet-Bohr radii, and vice versa
Characterization of different regimes in nonlinear liquid crystal models
2012
[EN] The range of validity of two models for nonlocal nonlinear optics in Nematic Liquid Crystals (NLC) is studied. Particularly the influence of the optical power and the initial position of the beam over its trajectory is studied when launching the beam with an offset in a planar cell. The main difference between both models is the dependence of the orientational angle with the optical field, either linear or nonlinear. The results demonstrate the critical role of the nonlinearity in the propagation of nematicons in NLC planar cells. © 2012 World Scientific Publishing Company.
Dielectric Spectroscopy of Recycled Polylactide
2014
The effects of multiple mechanical recycling on amorphous polylactide (PLA) were simulated by means of five successive injection-grinding cycles. The influence of the induced thermo-mechanical degradation on the dielectric properties of PLA was analysed. The relaxation spectra were studied in terms of the complex dielectric permittivity (ε0 and ε00) and the dielectric loss tangent, tg(d) in the frequency range from 102 to 107 Hz over the temperature interval from 0 C to 140 C. It was possible to distinguish two relaxations zones, one at low temperatures and high frequencies (b relaxation) and another at higher temperatures and lower frequencies (a relaxation). The individual relaxations wer…
Series expansion for the effective conductivity of a periodic dilute composite with thermal resistance at the two-phase interface
2019
We study the asymptotic behavior of the effective thermal conductivity of a periodic two-phase dilute composite obtained by introducing into an infinite homogeneous matrix a periodic set of inclusions of a different material, each of them of size proportional to a positive parameter ?. We assume that the normal component of the heat flux is continuous at the two-phase interface, while we impose that the temperature field displays a jump proportional to the normal heat flux. For ? small, we prove that the effective conductivity can be represented as a convergent power series in ? and we determine the coefficients in terms of the solutions of explicit systems of integral equations.
Anomalous localized resonance using a folded geometry in three dimensions
2013
If a body of dielectric material is coated by a plasmonic structure of negative dielectric material with nonzero loss parameter, then cloaking by anomalous localized resonance (CALR) may occur as the loss parameter tends to zero. It was proved in other papers by authors that if the coated structure is circular (2D) and dielectric constant of the shell is a negative constant (with loss parameter), then CALR occurs, and if the coated structure is spherical (3D), then CALR does not occur. The aim of this paper is to show that the CALR takes place if the spherical coated structure has a specially designed anisotropic dielectric tensor. The anisotropic dielectric tensor is designed by unfolding …
Turing pattern formation in the Brusselator system with nonlinear diffusion.
2013
In this work we investigate the effect of density dependent nonlinear diffusion on pattern formation in the Brusselator system. Through linear stability analysis of the basic solution we determine the Turing and the oscillatory instability boundaries. A comparison with the classical linear diffusion shows how nonlinear diffusion favors the occurrence of Turing pattern formation. We study the process of pattern formation both in 1D and 2D spatial domains. Through a weakly nonlinear multiple scales analysis we derive the equations for the amplitude of the stationary patterns. The analysis of the amplitude equations shows the occurrence of a number of different phenomena, including stable supe…
Representable states on quasilocal quasi *-algebras
2011
Continuing a previous analysis originally motivated by physics, we consider representable states on quasi-local quasi *-algebras, starting with examining the possibility for a {\em compatible} family of {\em local} states to give rise to a {\em global} state. Some properties of {\em local modifications} of representable states and some aspects of their asymptotic behavior are also considered.
A branch-and-cut algorithm for the Orienteering Arc Routing Problem
2016
[EN] In arc routing problems, customers are located on arcs, and routes of minimum cost have to be identified. In the Orienteering Arc Routing Problem (OARP),in addition to a set of regular customers that have to be serviced, a set of potential customers is available. From this latter set, customers have to be chosen on the basis of an associated profit. The objective is to find a route servicing the customers which maximize the total profit collected while satisfying a given time limit on the route. In this paper, we describe large families of facet-inducing inequalities for the OARP and present a branch-and-cut algorithm for its solution. The exact algorithm embeds a procedure which builds…
District metered area design through multicriteria and multiobjective optimization
2022
[EN] The design of district metered areas (DMA) in potable water supply systems is of paramount importance for water utilities to properly manage their systems. Concomitant to their main objective, namely, to deliver quality water to consumers, the benefits include leakage reduction and prompt reaction in cases of natural or malicious contamination events. Given the structure of a water distribution network (WDN), graph theory is the basis for DMA design, and clustering algorithms can be applied to perform the partitioning. However, such sectorization entails a number of network modifications (installing cut-off valves and metering and control devices) involving costs and operation changes,…
