Analysis of discrete and continuous distributions of ventilatory time constants from dynamic computed tomography.

In this study, an algorithm was developed to measure the distribution of pulmonary time constants (TCs) from dynamic computed tomography (CT) data sets during a sudden airway pressure step up. Simulations with synthetic data were performed to test the methodology as well as the influence of experimental noise. Furthermore the algorithm was applied to in vivo data. In five pigs sudden changes in airway pressure were imposed during dynamic CT acquisition in healthy lungs and in a saline lavage ARDS model. Some Notes About Distribution Frame Multipliers

Inspired by a recent work about distribution frames, the definition of multiplier operator is extended in the rigged Hilbert spaces setting and a study of its main properties is carried on. In particular, conditions for the density of domain and boundedness are given. The case of Riesz distribution bases is examined in order to develop a symbolic calculus.

The oceanic state: a conceptual elucidation in terms of modal contact

Despite its lengthy history in psychoanalysis, the psychological origins, essential features and value of the oceanic state remain open to dispute. This ambiguity has come at a cost to the clarity of theoretical discussions on the topic. In working towards a conceptual elucidation, the author maintains that there are three primary accounts of the oceanic state: the metaphysical one of Romain Rolland, the developmental one of Sigmund Freud, and the cognitive-perceptual one of Anton Ehrenzweig. A symmetric Galerkin BEM for plate bending analysis

Abstract The Symmetric Galerkin Boundary Element Method is employed in thin plate bending analysis in accordance with the Love–Kirchhoff kinematical assumption. The equations are obtained through the stationary conditions of the total potential energy, written for a plate whose boundary is discretized in boundary elements. Since the matrix coefficients are made up as double integrals with high order singularities, a strategy is shown to compute these coefficients in closed form. Systems of quasilinear elliptic equations with dependence on the gradient via subsolution-supersolution method

For the homogeneous Dirichlet problem involving a system of equations driven by \begin{document}$(p,q)$\end{document} -Laplacian operators and general gradient dependence we prove the existence of solutions in the ordered rectangle determined by a subsolution-supersolution. This extends the preceding results based on the method of subsolution-supersolution for systems of elliptic equations. Positive and negative solutions are obtained.

Variable reporting in interventional trials of study design and sample characteristics limits the interpretation of pooled outcomes. In the landscape of approaches toward the simulation of Lattice Models with complex action the Complex Langevin (CL) appears as a straightforward method with a simple, well defined setup. Its applicability, however, is controlled by certain specific conditions which are not always satisfied. A new measurement of direct CP violation in the neutral kaon system

A new measurement of the ratio of the CP-violating amplitudes for $K_{L} \to 2\pi^{0}$ and $K_{L} \to \pi^{+}\pi^{-}$ is reported. The measured value for $\Re = |\eta_{00} / \eta_{ +-}|^{2}$ is $0.9878 \pm 0.0026 \pm 0.0030$, where the first error is the statistical uncertainty and the second is the estimate of the systematic uncertainty. This gives a value for the parameter describing direct CP violation: $\Re$ $\epsilon'/\epsilon = (2.0 \pm 0.7) \times 10^{−3}$ .
