Emma's mathematical thinking, problem solving and affect

International audience; This paper aims to understand one pupil's mathematical thinking through problem solving and mathematics related affect. The results reveal a successful, though quite unsure, problem solver whose affective state (connected to problem solving) seems to tell the same story as her affective trait (view of mathematics). The differences between results on affective state and trait seem to be connected mostly to emotions.

Program ten doskonale nadaje się dla uczniów i nauczycieli, którzy chcą uatrakcyjnić prowadzone przez siebie zajęcia. Działanie i możliwości aplikacji zostały poparte rozwiązaniami kilku przykładów (z różnych poziomów kształcenia) wraz z odpowiednim komentarzem.

Profit vs morality: how unfair is labor market discrimination? Results from a survey experiment

Using an original survey-experimental protocol, we study the normative acceptability of the trade-off between immoral profit (discrimination) and costly morality (non-discrimination). We test the causal influence of three factors: i) the origin of discrimination, ii) the steepness of the morality/profit trade-off and iii) anti-discriminatory moral injunctions. Contrasting with past experimental and attitudinal studies, we find that a significant minority of respondents believe that labor market discrimination is acceptable when morality results in profit loss. Automated Checking of Flexible Mathematical Reasoning in the Case of Systems of (In)Equations and the Absolute Value Operator

We present an approach and a tool for automatically providing feedback on solutions that involve complicated reasoning patterns. Currently the tool supports linear systems of equations and inequations that may also contain the absolute value operator and a restricted form of rational functions. This suffices for designing problems that are laborious to solve with standard mechanical procedures, but much easier using short-cuts that students may find by creative thinking. Analysis of the determinants of entrepreneurial intention: the case of Burkina Faso

International audience; In this study, we propose to analyze students' entrepreneurial intention, drawing on Lazear's (2004) self-selection model. This model captures the role of "human capital" in employment assignment and emphasizes the importance of the variety of skills in the individual's entrepreneurial orientation. For this purpose, we have a database collected in 2017 from over 1000 students at Ouaga I and Ouaga II universities in Burkina Faso. The results of estimates obtained using the quantile regression method show a positive and significant effect of the diversity of skills on the intention score, mainly at the median level. Highly occupied gauge theories in 2 + 1 dimensions : a self-similar attractor

Motivated by the boost-invariant Glasma state in the initial stages in heavy-ion collisions, we perform classical-statistical simulations of SU(2) gauge theory in 2+1 dimensional space-time both with and without a scalar field in the adjoint representation. We show that irrespective of the details of the initial condition, the far-from-equilibrium evolution of these highly occupied systems approaches a unique universal attractor at high momenta that is the same for the gauge and scalar sectors. We extract the scaling exponents and the form of the distribution function close to this non-thermal fixed point.
