On the representation of integers by indefinite binary Hermitian forms
2011
Given an integral indefinite binary Hermitian form f over an imaginary quadratic number field, we give a precise asymptotic equivalent to the number of nonequivalent representations, satisfying some congruence properties, of the rational integers with absolute value at most s by f, as s tends to infinity.
Assouad dimension, Nagata dimension, and uniformly close metric tangents
2013
We study the Assouad dimension and the Nagata dimension of metric spaces. As a general result, we prove that the Nagata dimension of a metric space is always bounded from above by the Assouad dimension. Most of the paper is devoted to the study of when these metric dimensions of a metric space are locally given by the dimensions of its metric tangents. Having uniformly close tangents is not sufficient. What is needed in addition is either that the tangents have dimension with uniform constants independent from the point and the tangent, or that the tangents are unique. We will apply our results to equiregular subRiemannian manifolds and show that locally their Nagata dimension equals the to…
Markovian Connection, Curvature and Weitzenböck Formula on Riemannian Path Spaces
2001
Abstract We shall consider on a Riemannian path space P m o ( M ) the Cruzeiro–Malliavin's Markovian connection. The Laplace operator will be defined as the divergence of the gradient. We shall compute explicitly the associated curvature tensor. A Weitzenbock formula will be established. To this end, we shall introduce an “inner product” between the tangent processes and simple vector fields.
Graded metrics adapted to splittings
1997
Homogeneous graded metrics over split ℤ2-graded manifolds whose Levi-Civita connection is adapted to a given splitting, in the sense recently introduced by Koszul, are completely described. A subclass of such is singled out by the vanishing of certain components of the graded curvature tensor, a condition that plays a role similar to the closedness of a graded symplectic form in graded symplectic geometry: It amounts to determining a graded metric by the data {g, ω, Δ′}, whereg is a metric tensor onM, ω 0 is a fibered nondegenerate skewsymmetric bilinear form on the Batchelor bundleE → M, and Δ′ is a connection onE satisfying Δ′ω = 0. Odd metrics are also studied under the same criterion an…
Rigidity and almost rigidity of Sobolev inequalities on compact spaces with lower Ricci curvature bounds
2021
We prove that if $M$ is a closed $n$-dimensional Riemannian manifold, $n \ge 3$, with ${\rm Ric}\ge n-1$ and for which the optimal constant in the critical Sobolev inequality equals the one of the $n$-dimensional sphere $\mathbb{S}^n$, then $M$ is isometric to $\mathbb{S}^n$. An almost-rigidity result is also established, saying that if equality is almost achieved, then $M$ is close in the measure Gromov-Hausdorff sense to a spherical suspension. These statements are obtained in the ${\rm RCD}$-setting of (possibly non-smooth) metric measure spaces satisfying synthetic lower Ricci curvature bounds. An independent result of our analysis is the characterization of the best constant in the Sob…
Poisson-Nijenhuis structures and the Vinogradov bracket
1994
We express the compatibility conditions that a Poisson bivector and a Nijenhuis tensor must fulfil in order to be a Poisson-Nijenhuis structure by means of a graded Lie bracket. This bracket is a generalization of Schouten and Frolicher-Nijenhuis graded Lie brackets defined on multivector fields and on vector valued differential forms respectively.
Some Special Foliations
2014
In this chapter we study two classes of ubiquitous foliations: Riccati foliations and turbulent foliations. A section will also be devoted to a very special foliation, which will play an important role in the minimal model theory.
Geometric contacts of surfaces immersed in Rn, n⩾5
AbstractWe study the extrinsic geometry of surfaces immersed in Rn, n⩾5, by analyzing their contacts with different standard geometrical models, such as hyperplanes and hyperspheres. We investigate the relation between different types of contact and the properties of the curvature ellipses at each point. In particular, we focalize our attention on the hyperspheres having contacts of corank two with the surface. This leads in a natural way to the concept of umbilical focus and umbilic curvature.
Spaces of weighted symbols and weighted sobolev spaces on manifolds
1987
This paper gives an approach to pseudodifferential operators on noncompact manifolds using a suitable class of weighted symbols and Sobolev spaces introduced by H.O. Cordes on ℙ. Here, these spaces are shown to be invariant under certain changes of coordinates. It is therefore possible to transfer them to manifolds with a compatible structure.
Elementary Deformations and the HyperKähler-Quaternionic Kähler Correspondence
2014
The hyperKahler-quaternionic Kahler correspondence constructs quaternionic Kahler metrics from hyperKahler metrics with a rotating circle symmetry. We discuss how this may be interpreted as a combination of the twist construction with the concept of elementary deformation, surveying results of our forthcoming paper. We outline how this leads to a uniqueness statement for the above correspondence and indicate how basic examples of c-map constructions may be realised in this context.
