Ratiovitalistic hermeneutics and sport in the perspective of Ortega y Gasset

2016

AbstractThis work aims to show, in the first place, that the ratiovitalism of Jose Ortega y Gasset is one of the possible lines of the hermeneutic transformation process of contemporary thinking. Nietzsche’s hermeneutical mark on the development of Ortega’s thinking is clear in some very relevant aspects, such as the importance of the body and the innovative notion of life, both of which are decisive issues to understand sport. Secondly, an attempt is made to tap into the rich reflections of Ortega y Gasset on sport, which have a considerable impact on the entire human life, based on the claim of a notion of living body (Leib) and of a new notion of life. Sport forms part of a vital horizon…

Resisting Immigration Detention

2016

The aim of this article is to provide a normative analysis of the ways in which immigrants resist immigration detention. After having outlined (in Section 2) some general features that make immigration detention a rather abnormal condition for human beings to be kept in, I distinguish three main forms of resistance to it: institutionalized, non-institutionalized, and anti-institutional. I first spell out, in Section 3, some individual characteristics of these forms of resistance. Then (in Sections 4 and 5), using Italy as my test case, I suggest, for each of these forms, an interpretation of their normative meaning (that is, their meaning according to both the relevant legal rules and their…

Loafing in the digital age: The role of computer mediated communication in the relation between perceived loafing and group affective outcomes

2014

Virtual work has become an increasingly central practice for the organization of the 21st century. While effective virtual workgroups can create synergies that boost innovation and performance, ineffective workgroups become a great burden for organizations. Empirical research has shown that some negative behaviors, such as social loafing, negatively influence a group's affective outcomes, in both collocated (face-to-face) and virtual workgroups. In this study, we explore if working through low fidelity computer mediated communication (CMC) increases the negative impact of perceived loafing over cohesion and work satisfaction. On this rationale, we conducted a laboratory study with 44 groups…

Intuition and meaning. The Husserlian doctrine of intuitive sense in the contemporary field of reflection

1999

2017

A theme of old age in the novel Night Roads  by Gaito Gazdanov In his literary works, Gaito Gazdanov — arepresentative of ayounger generation of the first wave of Russian emigre writers — has made frequent references to the theme of old age. Very often he analyzed the old age in the context of the meaning of life and death. His novel “Night Roads” is essential in this respect as the theme of old age and the attitude thereto is presented against the backdrop of the experiences of an owner of acafe, aprostitute Raldi and an elderly cab driver. The protagonists possess specific individual traits precisely described by the narrator. The theme of old age provides, first and foremost, an opportun…

In present days the storical heritage the transmission of art and its performance is very important argument of debate. Its representation is the building museum in many different forms. The building museum of art is the most important place for exsposition of masterpieces instead the museum of architecture exhibits the works through projects and patterns. Today museum reconstructs the human perception of space using new technologies. The same thing happens for the museum of science and technique where the visitor gets involved in scientific representation. Therefore museum can be a place of study and scientific research. It can be either memory of past times or place of contemporaneity. This study expresses origin and meaning of building museum through the critical analysis of architectonic forms technological aims and the proper use of the exspositive space.Settore ICAR/12 - Tecnologia Dell'Architettura

Are mandatory non-financial disclosures credible? Evidence from Italian listed companies

2020

According to the Directive 2014/95/EU on non‐financial information (NFI), from 2017 onwards, large companies of member states must provide social, environmental, and governance disclosures. This paper, focusing on the evaluation of the credibility of NFI in Italy after the implementation of the EU Directive, aims to investigate whether making non‐financial disclosures (NFDs) obligatory affect their credibility. From a theoretical perspective of material legitimacy theory, we investigated the NFDs of the 31 FTSE MIB Italian listed companies for the 2017 fiscal year. Through a meaning‐oriented content analysis, we developed a self‐constructed credibility index applying an operational framewor…

From Thinking to Raging: Reflexes of Indo-European *men- Polysemy in Homer

2020

This paper aims at investigating the semantic value of the verb μαίνομαι “to rage, to be furious” in Homeric Greek, in order to clarify the striking semantic relationship between the common ‘irrational’ meaning of the verb and the original ‘rational’ meaning of the Indo-European root *men- “to think”, to which the verb traces back. The corresponding words for μαίνομαι in other Indo-European languages (e.g. OInd. mányatē; Av. mainyeite; OIr. (do)moiniur; OCS mъnjo; Lit. miniu) can be translated as “to think”, thus showing an opposite meaning. From a textual analysis of all the occurrences of μαίνομαι in the Iliad and the Odyssey, the study aims at finding semantic traces of the original mean…
