Measurement of the Atmospheric ve flux in IceCube

2012

We report the first measurement of the atmospheric electron neutrino flux in the energy range between approximately 80 GeV and 6 TeV, using data recorded during the first year of operation of IceCube's DeepCore low energy extension. Techniques to identify neutrinos interacting within the DeepCore volume and veto muons originating outside the detector are demonstrated. A sample of 1029 events is observed in 281 days of data, of which 496 $\pm$ 66(stat.) $\pm$ 88(syst.) are estimated to be cascade events, including both electron neutrino and neutral current events. The rest of the sample includes residual backgrounds due to atmospheric muons and charged current interactions of atmospheric muo…

Harmonization of Neuroticism and Extraversion phenotypes across inventories and cohorts in the Genetics of Personality Consortium:an application of I…

2014

Mega- or meta-analytic studies (e.g. genome-wide association studies) are increasingly used in behavior genetics. An issue in such studies is that phenotypes are often measured by different instruments across study cohorts, requiring harmonization of measures so that more powerful fixed effect meta-analyses can be employed. Within the Genetics of Personality Consortium, we demonstrate for two clinically relevant personality traits, Neuroticism and Extraversion, how Item-Response Theory (IRT) can be applied to map item data from different inventories to the same underlying constructs. Personality item data were analyzed in >160,000 individuals from 23 cohorts across Europe, USA and Australia…

Uncertainty evaluation in power measurements with commercial data acquisition boards

2011

The paper deals with the metrological characterization of a digital wattmeter developed by using a personal computer, a shunt, two commercial data acquisition boards and commercial software. The uncertainty of the active power measurements is assessed individually characterizing the voltage channel, the current channel and the phase displacement measurement between the two channels. In particular, the uncertainty on the voltage and current rms measurements is evaluated by using an already proposed approach based on the Monte Carlo method and on the usage of five parameters, while the uncertainty on the phase angle is experimentally estimated. In order to validate the proposed approach for t…

Sun Induced Fluorescence Calibration and Validation for Field Phenotyping

2018

Reliable measurements of Sun Induced Fluorescence (SIF) require a good instrument characterization as well as a complex processing chain. In this paper, we summarize the state of the art SIF retrieval methods and measurements platforms for field phenotyping. Furthermore, we use HyScreen, hyperspectral-imaging system for top of canopy measurements of SIF, as an example of the instrument requirements, data process, and data validation needed to obtain reliable measurements of SIF.

Proposal of Up-to-Date Standards on Methods of Measuring Noise Parameters of Microwave Transistors

1994

One of the most interesting topics for microrwave community is the characterization of low-noise transistors. After so many years, the Standards suggested by IEEE in 1960 are considered obsolete by the experimenters. A new methodology is here proposed as a standard. To support this proposal, an original measuring system for the complete characterization of microwave transistors in terms of noise, gain and scattering parameters from noise figure measurements only is presented.

Comparison between complete and simplified methods for determining the microwave noise parameters of HEMTs

1994

Modem automatic noise parameter measuring systems are based on measurements of some values of F(rs ) for different values of IГs (more than four, for redundancy) realized by adjusting an admittance transformer (tuner) inserted between the noise source and the TUT mput . Such values are then manipulated by means of proper data processing techniques using eqn.( 1) [ 11. This measuring procedure is hereafter referred to as standard to point out that the old `Standards on methods of measuring noise in linear twoports´ published by the IRE Subcommittee on noise in 1960 is considered obsolete by all the experimenters.

Extending a Metamodel for Formalization of Data Warehouse Requirements

2014

In performance measurement systems that are built on top of a data warehouse, the information requirements in natural language are different performance indicators that should be stored and analyzed. We use the requirement formalization metamodel to create a formal requirement repository out of information requirements in natural language. In the course of this research we tested the compatibility of the existing requirement formalization metamodel applying it to a set of over 150 requirements for the currently operating data warehouse project. As a result, we extended the formal specification of information requirements with some additional classes like themes, grouping, and requirement pr…

Is pain sensitivity altered in people with Alzheimer's disease? A systematic review and meta-analysis of experimental pain research

2016

Background Clinical studies suggest people with Alzheimer's disease (AD) have altered pain sensitivity. Experimental pain research is equivocal. Objective Conduct a meta-analysis to investigate if people with AD have altered pain sensitivity compared to healthy controls (HCs). Methods Three authors searched electronic databases from inception till November 2015 for experimental pain studies in AD vs. HCs. Outcome measures were pain threshold, tolerance, pain ratings, heart rate response to noxious stimuli and the Facial Action Coding System (FACS). Random effect meta-analysis calculating Hedges' g ± 95% confidence intervals (CI) was conducted. Results Thirteen studies were identified, inclu…

2017

Abstract. Hydroxyl (OH) radical reactivity (kOH) has been measured for 18 years with different measurement techniques. In order to compare the performances of instruments deployed in the field, two campaigns were conducted performing experiments in the atmospheric simulation chamber SAPHIR at Forschungszentrum Jülich in October 2015 and April 2016. Chemical conditions were chosen either to be representative of the atmosphere or to test potential limitations of instruments. All types of instruments that are currently used for atmospheric measurements were used in one of the two campaigns. The results of these campaigns demonstrate that OH reactivity can be accurately measured for a wide rang…

Application of ACC method to synchronous luminiscence: determination of alpha-tocopherol and alpha-tocopheryl acetate in beverages.

2001

A new method based on the Q parameter, that permits the determination of the C(compound A)/C(compound B) ratio without preparing calibration graphs of the two compounds, is proposed. This method has been applied to signals obtained by synchronous luminiscence. Simultaneous determination of alpha-tocopherol and alpha-tocopheryl acetate in beverages using synchronous fluorescence has been carried out. To isolate the compounds from samples, liquid extraction with n-hexane as the organic phase was employed. The presence of interferences was tested using the apparent content curves (ACC) method and the C(alpha-tocopherol)/C(alpha-tocopheryl acetate) ratio was calculated using the Q parameter. Th…
