Thyroid hormones induce sumoylation of the cold shock domain-containing protein PIPPin in developing rat brain and in cultured neurons.
2006
We previously identified a cold shock domain (CSD)-containing protein (PIPPin), expressed at high level in brain cells. PIPPin has the potential to undergo different post-translational modifications and might be a good candidate to regulate the synthesis of specific proteins in response to extracellular stimuli. Here we report the effects of thyroid hormone (T3) on PIPPin expression in developing rat brain. We found that a significant difference among euthyroid- and hypothyroid- newborn rats concerns sumoylation of nuclear PIPPin, that is abolished by hypothyroidism. Moreover, T3-dependence of PIPPin sumoylation has been confirmed in cortical neurons purified from brain cortices and culture…
Ösophagusresektion bei unspezifischer Motilitätsstörung der Speiseröhre - Bedeutung der neuropathologischen Befunde
2005
A 47-year-old patient presented with a history of dysphagia for solid food for almost 10 years and weight loss of more than 50 kg. Non-resecting surgical as well as endoscopic procedures (laparoscopic cardiomyotomy with secondary antireflux operations, balloon dilation, Botulinum-toxin injection) were without success. A barium esophagogram showed a confinement of the distal esophagus with a filiform passage of the contrast medium and undigested food in the prestenotic dilated esophageal corpus. Manometry displayed a hypertensive lower esophageal sphincter with a resting pressure of 43.8 mmHg - although completely relaxing. The tubular esophagus was aperistaltic with 100 % simultaneous and r…
Artefaktreduzierung bei der Lungenemboliediagnostik mittels Spiral-CT unter Verwendung eines Kochsalzbolus
2001
nary Arteries Using a Saline Push. Purpose: To improve the diagnostic efficacy of bolus-enhanced spiral CT (SCT) in the detection of pulmonary embolism using a saline push immediately after bolus injection of the contrast medium. Patients and Methods: The study included 90 patients with suspected acute or chronic pulmonary embolism. The CT scan was performed in a caudocephaled direction. In Group I (n=60) we applied a bolus contrast injection (120 ml, 3 ml/s, 300 mg J/ml), after a median delay of 25 s. Group II (n = 30) had the same contrast injection which was immediately followed by an additional saline push (60 ml, 2 ml/s). Streak artifacts originating from high contrast concentrations i…
Chronische thromboembolische pulmonale Hypertonie: Hämodynamische Auswirkungen der selektiven Pulmonalis-DSA mit nicht-ionischem Kontrastmittel
1998
PURPOSE This study evaluates the effects of pulmonary bolus injection of nonionic contrast medium on pulmonary artery pressure and resistance in patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. METHODS In 39 patients (age 52 +/- 15) haemodynamic measurements were performed during bolus injection of nonionic contrast medium in a control group (I), in moderately severe (II) and severe pulmonary hypertension (III). RESULTS Initial inspiratory arrest caused significant pressure increase in all groups prior to bolus injection (delta PAsyst: 7.1 +/- 6.7 [I], 6.8 +/- 3.9 [II] und 7.2 +/- 7.9 mmHg p < 0.05). However, contrast bolus injection (25.1 +/- 2.3 ml iopamidol, 13.0 ml/s) caused…
Drei-Phasen-Spiral-CT in der Diagnostik von Lebererkrankungen: Vergleich mit CT-Arteriographie und -Arterioportographie
1996
PURPOSE Assessment of the diagnostic efficacy of triphasic spiral-CT scanning (TPS-CT) for liver disease evaluation. CT arteriography (CTA) and CT arterio-portography (CTAP) were used as reference, methods which together have the highest sensitivity for detecting tumours and the perfusion conditions of the liver. MATERIAL AND METHODS 50 TPS-CT and CTA/CTPA were performed in 49 patients. After an initial examination without enhancement the first scan was initiated 15-25s after the peripheral bolus injection of contrast medium, the second after an interscan delay of 20-25s. By this means the liver was imaged in different phases of perfusion. In the course of the CTA/CTPA-exam the imaging was …
A pilot study on non-invasive treatment of migraine: The self-myofascial release
2021
The aims of this paper was to determine the effect of self-myofascial release (SMFR) on postural stability and to analyze if it can influence migraine condition. Twenty-five subjects (age 49.7±12.5) affected by migraine were enrolled. Assessments included a stabilometric analysis in order to evaluate balance and plantar support, with eyes open (OE) and closed (CE); cervical ROM measurement; evaluation of upper limb strength through handgrip. All the analysis were carried out before and after the administration of a single SMFR protocol, using medium density small balls laid in the three most painful trigger points in migraine patients: trapezius, sternocleidomastoids and suboccipital muscle…
The impact of head and neck radiotherapy on the dentine-enamel junction: a systematic review
2019
Background Radiotherapy is widely used in contemporary head and neck cancer treatment protocols. The ability of head and neck radiotherapy (HNRT) to cause direct radiogenic destruction to the teeth is one of the most controversial topics in the field of oral oncology. Therefore, this systematic review aimed to investigate ionising radiation as an independent factor for physical and chemical changes on the dentine-enamel junction (DEJ), a pivotal dental topography for the onset and progression of radiation-related caries (RRC) and enamel delamination. Material and Methods Systematic searches were conducted on three databases: Scopus, MEDLINE (Via PubMed) and Embase (Elsevier). Laboratory stu…
Advances in surfaces and osseointegration in implantology. Biomimetic surfaces
2015
The present work is a revision of the processes occurring in osseointegration of titanium dental implants according to different types of surfaces -namely, polished surfaces, rough surfaces obtained from subtraction methods, as well as the new hydroxyapatite biomimetic surfaces obtained from thermochemical processes. Hydroxyapatite’s high plasma-projection temperatures have proven to prevent the formation of crystalline apatite on the titanium dental implant, but lead to the formation of amorphous calcium phosphate (i.e., with no crystal structure) instead. This layer produce some osseointegration yet the calcium phosphate layer will eventually dissolve and leave a gap between the bone and …
Analysis of a soluble lipid-protein complex carrying endogenous 11-cis retinaldehyde from bovine retinal pigment epithelium.
1989
A soluble lipid-protein complex in bovine retinal pigment epithelium is shown to carry endogenous 11-cis retinaldehyde, in the extent of 15% of the total 11-cis retinaldehyde found in this tissue. The complex, analyzed with respect to its chemical composition, exhibits a lipid composition close resembling the lipid composition of the rod outer segment membrane; the SDS-PAGE evidences the presence of a number of protein bands, two of which of 34 and 27 kDa appear glycoproteins. Finally, the lipid-protein complex exhibits a discrete level of a Cathepsin D-like protease activity. From the above, the possibility is discussed that the soluble lipid-protein complex could represent some phagolysos…
Different ways to organize the processes of financial administration : a field study of medium-sized Finnish companies
2011
This research concentrates on exploring the ways how financial administration is currently organized in medium-sized companies in Finland. Decentralization, centralization and outsourcing are options that are available to different-sized companies. The study was executed as a field study in seven medium-sized Finnish companies that represent different branches. Furthermore, the research method was qualitative theme interview. As large companies have already established their financial service centers and small enterprises have outsourced their financial administration to bookkeeping agencies, medium-sized companies are located between the two, finding a way that is suitable for their strate…
