Lo squadrismo
2022
The essay sets out to analyse the genesis of fascist squadrismo, the wave of violence that brought Mussolini to power in 1922. Three levels in particular will be considered. Firstly, an attempt will be made to measure the impact of that violence through the incidence of certain crimes. Then, we will focus on the words used to describe it and the advent of the word 'squadrism'. finally, the fascist memory of squadrism, maintained and elaborated throughout the twenty-year period, will be considered
Dimenticare il Balkan. La distruzione del Narodni Dom di Trieste nelle rielaborazioni fasciste (1921-1941)
2016
On July 13th 1920, in Trieste, the fascists destroyed a building known as «Balkan», an outpost of the Slovenian community. This essay studies the symbolic legacy of that assault, as it was one of the first fascist squads actions in Italy. The memory of the «Balkan» is analysed through its connections with important squads leaders’ careers, the effects of Trieste’s urban expansion and the fascist cult of the fallen «squadristi». The timeline of this study stretches until the Second World War, when the fascists attack on the Slovenian and Croatian population hit a new peak.
Avoiding strange attractors in efficient parametric families of iterative methods for solving nonlinear problems
2019
[EN] Searching zeros of nonlinear functions often employs iterative procedures. In this paper, we construct several families of iterative methods with memory from one without memory, that is, we have increased the order of convergence without adding new functional evaluations. The main aim of this manuscript yields in the advantage that the use of real multidimensional dynamics gives us to decide among the different classes designed and, afterwards, to select its most stable members. Moreover, we have found some elements of the family whose behavior includes strange attractors of different kinds that must be avoided in practice. In this sense, Feigenbaum diagrams have resulted an extremely …
ESB: Ext2 Split Block Device
2012
Solid State Disks (SSDs) start to replace rotating media (hard disks, HDD) in many areas, but are still not as cost efficient concerning capacity to completely replace them. One approach to use their superior performance properties is to use them as a cache for magnetic disks to speed up overall storage operations. In this paper, we present and evaluate a file system level optimization based on ext2. We split metadata and data and store the metadata on a SDD while the data remains on a common HDD. We evaluate our system with filebench under a file server, web server, and web proxy scenario and compare the results with flashcache. We find that many of the scenarios do not contain enough meta…
Kriterien für die Auswahl von Elektronischen Rechenanlagen für Biomedizinische Forschungsinstitute
1979
Computers are now a recognized tool in biomedical research. They are used for the evaluation of data on one hand and on the other hand for data acquisition and control of experiments. Based on our experience, some suggestions concerning the structure of a mini-computer system suitable for a research laboratory are made. According to the two major classes of application, two sets or requirements arise. We argue that it is effective to use this system for data reduction and evaluation because a large percentage of tasks require program development or at least specific input data handling. Therefore, we call for a multi-user time-sharing system which should be equipped with a set of commands t…
"Govoriti ćutanjem nije isto što i ćutati”. Analiza romana "Kuća sećanja i zaborava" Filipa Davida
2017
The paper analyzes the diverse representations of silence. The starting point is the thesis assuming that the Serbian writer’s novel belongs to the category of Holocaust texts endeavoring to describe/transcribe trauma. Such an experience resists verbalization, and aporia is inscribed in the very attempt to transfer it via language. The subsequent sections of the article are devoted to the various modes of manifestations of silence/muteness in the novel. Among others, these are: the images of aphasia triggered by the dramatic experience (it is worth noticing here that the novel reuses its author’s autobiographical experiences); post-memory, which is directly connected to the broken communica…
Introduzione di "La Grande Guerra nella Stampa Mondiale"
2020
Atypical perceptual narrowing in prematurely born infants is associated with compromised language acquisition at 2 years of age
2010
Abstract Background Early auditory experiences are a prerequisite for speech and language acquisition. In healthy children, phoneme discrimination abilities improve for native and degrade for unfamiliar, socially irrelevant phoneme contrasts between 6 and 12 months of age as the brain tunes itself to, and specializes in the native spoken language. This process is known as perceptual narrowing, and has been found to predict normal native language acquisition. Prematurely born infants are known to be at an elevated risk for later language problems, but it remains unclear whether these problems relate to early perceptual narrowing. To address this question, we investigated early neurophysiolog…
When the arts inspire businesses: Museums as a heritage redefinition tool of brands
2018
International audience; While the literature has mainly considered brand museums as communication tools or complex retail environments, this article analyses them through a heritage framework and suggests that brands can use heritage technologies of the arts for their own purposes. The case study of the brand museum of the Laughing Cow highlights the heritage technologies the brand uses to endorse two heritage roles: an inter-generational memory role based on the transmission of the brand's history and a community representation role through spaces and objects. As a consequence, this research sheds light on how brands can come to be accepted as heritage objects. By using heritage technologi…
Heavy ion SEE studies on 4-Gbit NAND-Flash memories
2007
Heavy ion SEE studies on three 4-Gbit NAND-flash memory types were performed at the RADEF facility at the University of Jyvaskyla, Finland with particular emphasis on SEFI differentiation. An error classification for complex memory devices is introduced, and respective cross sections are reported.
