Experimental Preemptive Immunotherapy of Murine Cytomegalovirus Disease with CD8 T-Cell Lines Specific for ppM83 and pM84, the Two Homologs of Human …

2001

ABSTRACTCD8 T cells are the principal antiviral effectors controlling cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection. For human CMV, the virion tegument protein ppUL83 (pp65) has been identified as a source of immunodominant peptides and is regarded as a candidate for cytoimmunotherapy and vaccination. Two sequence homologs of ppUL83 are known for murine CMV, namely the virion protein ppM83 (pp105) expressed late in the viral replication cycle and the nonstructural protein pM84 (p65) expressed in the early phase. Here we show that ppM83, unlike ppUL83, is not delivered into the antigen presentation pathway after virus penetration before or in absence of viral gene expression, while other virion proteins o…

Long-term working memory and interrupting messages in human – computer interaction

2004

The extent to which memory for information content is reliable, trustworthy, and accurate is crucial in the information age. Being forced to divert attention to interrupting messages is common, however, and can cause memory loss. The memory effects of interrupting messages were investigated in three experiments. In Experiment 1, attending to an interrupting message decreased memory accuracy. Experiment 2, where four interrupting messages were used, replicated this result. In Experiment 3, an interrupting message was shown to be most disturbing when it was semantically very close to the main message. Drawing from a theory of long-term working memory it is argued that interrupting messages ca…

Inhibition of murine IgE and immediate cutaneous hypersensitivity responses to ovalbumin by the immunomodulatory agent leflunomide

1999

SUMMARYLeflunomide has been identified as an immunoregulatory and anti-inflammatory compound. Allergic disease is characterized by elevated serum IgE levels, production of allergen-specific IgE and the release of inflammatory mediators from mast cells and granulocytes. Here we demonstrate, using an in vivo murine model, the ability of leflunomide to down-regulate levels of total and allergen-specific serum IgE production. Mice receiving leflunomide (45 mg/kg) orally at the time of primary immunization with ovalbumin adsorbed to aluminium hydroxide adjuvant, showed a reduction in total serum IgE levels of 95%, 41% and 32% following primary, secondary and tertiary immunizations, respectively …

Sex Classification of Face Areas

1998

Human subjects and an artificial neural network, composed of an autoassociative memory and a perceptron, gender classified the same 160 frontal face images (80 male and 80 female). All 160 face images were presented under three conditions (1) full face image with the hair cropped (2) top portion only of the Condition 1 image (3) bottom portion only of the Condition 1 image. Predictions from simulations using Condition 1 stimuli for training and testing novel stimuli in Conditions 1, 2, and 3, were compared to human subject performance. Although the network showed a fair ability to generalize learning to new stimuli under the three conditions, performing from 66 to 78% correctly on novel fa…

Soft errors in commercial off-the-shelf static random access memories

2016

International audience; This article reviews state-of-the-art techniques for the evaluation of the effect of radiation on static random access memory (SRAM). We detailed irradiation test techniques and results from irradiation experiments with several types of particles. Two commercial SRAMs, in 90 and 65 nm technology nodes, were considered as case studies. Besides the basic static and dynamic test modes, advanced stimuli for the irradiation tests were introduced, as well as statistical post-processing techniques allowing for deeper analysis of the correlations between bit-flip cross-sections and design/architectural characteristics of the memory device. Further insight is provided on the …

Heavy-Ion Radiation Impact on a 4 Mb FRAM Under Different Test Modes and Conditions

2016

International audience; The impact of heavy-ions on commercial Ferroelectric Memories (FRAMs) is analyzed. The influence of dynamic and static test modes as well as several stimuli on the error rate of this memory is investigated. Static test results show that the memory is prone to temporary effects occurring in the peripheral circuitry, with a possible effect due to fluence. Dynamic tests results show a high sensitivity of this memory to switching activity of this peripheral circuitry.

T-Cell Subsets (TCM, TEM, TEMRA) and Poly-Functional Immune Response in Patients with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Infection and Different T-CD…

2019

OBJECTIVE: Dynamic changes of cytotoxic T cell responses against Human Immunodeficiency Virus 1 (HIV-1) infection have been the subject of an innovative investigation using antiretroviral therapy (ART). Currently, human CD8 naïve central memory (TCM), effector memory (TEM), and effector memory cells re-expressing CD45RA (TEMRA) T-cells have been thoroughly studied with ART. CD45RA is a marker usually found on naïve T-cells. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We performed a longitudinal study of mono-/polyfunctional T-cells in the peripheral blood while targeting three functionally distinct cell populations of CD4+ and CD8+ T-cells (single IL2 and IFN-γ, dual IL2/IFN-γ) in 50 HIV-1 patients. These patie…
