Bis(oxalato)chromium(III) complexes: Versatile tectons in designing heterometallic coordination compounds
2011
Abstract The mononuclear oxalato-containing chromium(III) complexes of general formula [Cr(AA)(C2O4)2]− (AA = α-diimine type ligand) are able to produce a large variety of heterometallic complexes by acting as ligands towards either fully solvated metal ions or preformed cationic complexes with available coordination sites. This review focuses on the structural diversity of the polynuclear complexes (oligonuclear and coordination polymers) which are generated by the bis(oxalato)chromate(III) species, with a special emphasis to their magnetic properties.
Not just size and shape: spherically symmetrical d5 and d10 metal ions give different coordination nets with 4,2′:6′,4″-terpyridines
2010
Functionalized 4,2′:6′,4″-terpyridine ligands have been used to provide a divergent N,N′-donor set for the formation of coordination polymers containing {Zn2(µ-OAc)4} or {Mn3(µ-OAc)4(OAc)2} scaffolds. Single-stranded coordination polymers are produced from the reactions of 4′-(4-bromophenyl)-4,2′:6′,4″-terpyridine (1) and 4′-(4-methylthiophenyl)-4,2′:6′,4″-terpyridine (2) with Zn(OAc)2·2H2O. In [Zn2(1)(OAc)4]n and [Zn2(2)(OAc)4]n, the two outer nitrogen donors of the 4,2′:6′,4″-terpyridine ligands, bind to the axial sites of {Zn2(µ-OAc)4} units to generate coordination polymer chains which are π-stacked so that the V-shaped ligand domains are interleaved. When Mn(OAc)2·4H2O is treated with …
Interactions of metal ions with two quinolone antimicrobial agents (cinoxacin and ciprofloxacin)
2002
Several novel metal-quinolone compounds have been synthesized and characterized by analytical, spectroscopic and X-ray diffraction methods. The crystal structure of the four compounds, Na(2)[(Cd(Cx)3)(Cd(Cx)3(H2O))].12H2O, [Co(Cp)2(H2O)2].9H2O, [Zn(Cp)2(H2O)2].8H2O and [Cd(HCp)2(Cl)2].4H2O, is presented and discussed: HCx=1-ethyl-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo(1,3)-dioxolo(4,5-g)cinnoline-3-carboxylic acid and HCp=1-cyclopropyl-6-fluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-7-(1-piperazinyl)-3-quinoline carboxylic acid. In all these compounds the quinolone acts as a bidentate chelate ligand that binds through one carboxylate oxygen atom and the exocyclic carbonyl oxygen atom. Complexes of ciprofloxacin were screened for th…
SEVERAL COORDINATION MODES OF 5-AMINO-1,3,4-THIADIAZOLE-2-SULFONAMIDE (HATS) WITH Cu(II), Ni(II) AND Zn(II): MIMETIC TERNARY COMPLEXES OF CARBONIC AN…
2001
Abstract The coordination properties of 5-amino-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-sulfonamide (Hats) with Cu(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II) ions, are analyzed. Although the ligand presents several donor atoms, we have only observed three coordination behaviors: (i) as a monodentate ligand through the Nsulfonamido atom, (ii) as a bridging ligand linking the metal ions through the Nsulfonamido and Nthiadizole atoms and (iii) as a bridging ligand linking metal ions through the N and O atoms of the sulfonamidate group. It is noteworthy that coordination mode (iii) is observed for the first time in heterocyclic sulfonamides complexes. In addition, the conformation of the Hats as counter-ion is analyzed and compared w…
Metal ion-promoted activation of amino acid esters of carbohydrates in the synthesis of peptides
1992
Abstract Carbohydrate esters 1 and 2 of N-protected amino acids are activated by coordination of metal ions and subjected to aminolysis by amino acid esters 3 to form peptides 4 .
Cytochemical techniques for zinc and heavy metals localization in nerve cells
2002
Zinc is one of the most abundant oligoelements in the living cell. It appears tightly bound to metallothioneins, loosely bound to some metalloproteins and nucleic acids, or even as free ion. Small amounts of zinc ions (in the nanomolar range) regulate a plentitude of enzymatic proteins, receptors, and transcription factors; thus, cells need accurate homeostasis of zinc ions. Some neurons have developed mechanisms to accumulate zinc in specific membrane compartments ("vesicular zinc") which can be revealed using histochemical techniques. This article is a short report on the different direct-indirect experimental approaches for zinc and heavy metal detection in neurons. Substances giving a b…
Coamplexation of mercury(II) compounds by crown ethers in organic media
1991
Complexes between crown ethers having ring sizes of 15–24 atoms and 5 to 8 oxygens with HgX2 species (X = Cl, I, CN, SCN) have been prepared and studied. Interactions of the substituents X bound to mercury with groups or fragments in the crown compound are essential in determining the characteristics and stability of the complexes formed. Complexes with crowns of 18C6 ring sizes are the most favourable except for HgX2 compounds for which the size of X is larger than the macrocycle ring, as is the case for X = CF3.
Robust Lanthanoid Picolinate-Based Coordination Polymers for Luminescence and Sensing Applications
2021
Picolinate-based segmented dianionic ligands L12– (5-((4-carboxyphenyl)ethynyl)picolinate) and L22– (5,5′-(ethyne-1,2-diyl)dipicolinate) have been used in the synthesis of the highly robust and luminescent europium(III) coordination polymers [(CH3)2NH2][Eu(H2O)2(L1)2] (1) and [(CH3)2NH2][Eu(L2)2]·H2O·CH3COOH (2). Both 1 and 2 exhibit high selectivity for detection of nitroaromatic compounds since they act as quenchers of the Eu3+ emission. Stern–Volmer plots, using nitrobenzene as a quencher, yielded values of KSV = 150 M–1 and 160 M–1 for 1 and 2, respectively. Luminescence studies in the presence of different metal ions indicate a high selectivity for Fe3+ detection, with KSV values of 47…
Metal ion affinity-based biomolecular recognition and conjugation inside synthetic polymer nanopores modified with iron-terpyridine complexes.
2011
Here we demonstrate a novel biosensing platform for the detection of lactoferrin (LFN) via metal-organic frameworks, in which the metal ions have accessible free coordination sites for binding, inside the single conical nanopores fabricated in polymeric membrane. First, monolayer of amine-terminated terpyridine (metal-chelating ligand) is covalently immobilized on the inner walls of the nanopore via carbodiimide coupling chemistry. Second, iron-terpyridine (iron-terPy) complexes are obtained by treating the terpyridine modified-nanopores with ferrous sulfate solution. The immobilized iron-terPy complexes can be used as recognition elements to fabricate biosensing nanodevice. The working pri…
A distorted honeycomb motif in divalent transition metal compounds based on 4-phosphonbenzoic acid and exchange coupled Co(II) and Cu(II): synthesis,…
2013
The first example of a two-dimensional inorganic hybrid material with cobalt as an open-shell transition metal ion and 4-phosphonbenzoic acid as a linker is presented together with its copper analogue. For both metal ions the inorganic part consists of edge-sharing metal–oxygen octahedra leading to a metal honeycomb motif. The magnetic properties of the cobalt compound are reported together with those of the corresponding copper compound based on the remarkably six-coordinated copper(II) ions.
