A novel iridium complex, [bis-(2-phenylpyridine)(2-carboxy-4-dimethylaminopyridine)iridium(III)] (N984), was synthesized and characterized using spectroscopic and electrochemical methods; a solution processable OLED device incorporating the N984 complex displays electroluminescence spectra with a narrow bandwidth of 70 nm at half of its intensity, with colour coordinates of x = 0.322; y = 0.529 that are very close to those suggested by the PAL standard for a green emitter. Refractory metal reactivity towards oxide surface : W/TiO2(1 1 0) case.

International audience; Reactivity of deposited tungsten towards TiO2(1 1 0) surface was studied using synchrotron radiation photoemission spectroscopy (both core levels, valence band and resonant photoemission) on Materials Science Beamline at ELETTRA. W depositions carried out at room temperature on TiO2(1 1 0) surface give rise to an interfacial reaction which leads to a metastable situation due to kinetic limitations. Annealing induces chemical changes which are function of the initial coverage; for fractional coverage, annealing induces completion of oxidation of deposit whereas reduction to metallic tungsten occurs for highest coverage. Structure and chemical bonds in reactively sputtered black Ti–C–N–O thin films

The evolution of the nanoscale structure and the chemical bonds formed in Ti–C–N–O films grown by reactive sputtering were studied as a function of the composition of the reactive atmosphere by increasing the partial pressure of an O2+N2 gas mixture from 0 up to 0.4 Pa, while that of acetylene (carbon source) was constant. The amorphisation of the films observed by transmission electron microscopy was confirmed by micro- Raman spectroscopy, but it was not the only effect associated to the increase of the O2+N2 partial pressure. Luminescence and energy transfer in Dy3+/Eu3+ co-doped aluminosilicate oxyfluoride glasses and glass-ceramics

Abstract A series of oxyfluoride glasses with the composition SiO2–CaF2–Al2O3–CaO, doped with Dy2O3 (0.5–1 mol%) and Eu2O3 (0–4 mol%), have been prepared using the melt quenching method. The glass-ceramics have been obtained by heating the as-made glasses at 680 °C and 750 °C for 1 h. The glasses and the glass-ceramics were investigated using photoluminescence techniques in the near-UV and visible ranges, and differential thermal analysis (DTA) and x-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements were performed. The samples doped with 0.5 mol% Dy3+ were observed to have the highest luminescence intensity under 453 nm excitation compared to the samples doped with 1 mol% Dy3+ and the co-doped samples. Th…
Properties of ZnO coatings obtained by mechanoactivated oxidation

In this work a new method based on the mechanoactivated oxidation has been applied for obtaining thin nanostructured transparent ZnO coatings on glass. Zn has been transferred onto a glass substrate at room temperature using a quickly rotating steel wire brush. Afterwards by subsequent annealing it is modified into a transparent ZnO coating. The temperature range in which formation of the needle-like (whiskers) structure and transition to the fine-grained structure occurs has been determined. The interrelation between physical properties and the change of microstructure of the ZnO coatings has been shown.
Efficient photoluminescent thin films consisting of anchored hybrid perovskite nanoparticles

Methylammonium lead bromide nanoparticles are synthetized with a new ligand (11-aminoundecanoic acid hydrobromide) by a non-template method. Upon dispersion in toluene they show a remarkable photoluminescence quantum yield of 80%. In addition, the bifunctional ligand allows anchoring of the nanoparticles on a variety of conducting and semiconducting surfaces, showing bright photoluminescence with a quantum yield exceeding 50%. This opens a path for the simple and inexpensive preparation of multilayer light-emitting devices. Optical, structural, and morphological characterisation of epitaxial ZnO films grown by pulsed-laser deposition

We report on ZnO epitaxial growth by pulsed-laser deposition (PLD) on different substrates, such as quartz, sapphire, and GaN template. Approximately 1 mu m-thick films were grown under different substrate temperatures and background oxygen conditions. X-ray diffraction analysis indicated preferential growth along the c-axis direction with a full-width at half maximum(FWHM) of the rocking curve as narrow as 230 arcs in the case of the GaN template. Low-temperature photoluminescence showed A-excitonic emission near 3.36 eV and a FWHM of (DXA)-X-0 emission as small as 2.89 meV at 9 K. Helium bubbles in alpha-irradiated aluminium: positron lifetime studies

The formation of He-stabilised voids in aluminium single crystals injected with helium is monitored by positron lifetime measurements. The bubbles are observed to grow during annealing from 300 to 930K. The bubbles are extremely stable and survive annealing up to the melting point. Positron lifetime data are used to discuss the He density inside the bubbles and their growth mechanism.
