Structure determination of three polymorphs of xylazine from laboratory powder diffraction data
2014
The crystal structures of three xylazine hydrochloride [N-(2,6-dimethylphenyl)-5,6-dihydro-4H-1,3-thiaz-2-amine hydrochloride] polymorphsA,ZandXhave been solved from powder diffraction data and refined using Rietveld refinement. Data were obtained with Cu Kα radiation. All polymorphs were found to have structures withZ′ = 1 andZ= 4. All the structures determined contained strong hydrogen bonds between the amino groups and chloride anions. The crystal structures of formsAandXfeatured π–π stacking interactions.
Metal distribution in road dust samples collected in an urban area close to a petrochemical plant at Gela, Sicily
2006
Eight samples of road dust were collected from three different localities (industrial, urban, peripheral) of the town of Gela (Italy) to characterize their chemical composition and to assess (a) the influence of the petrochemical plant and the urban traffic on the trace element content in different grain-size fractions of street dust and (b) the solid-phase speciation of the analysed metal using sequential extraction. The samples were sieved into six particle size ranges: 500–250, 250–125, 125–63, 63–40, 40–20 and <20 μm and then analysed for 15 trace elements by ICP-MS. Sequential extraction of metals was performed on each subsample. A principal component analysis was also carried out to d…
Formation of an interlocked double-chain from an organic-inorganic [2]rotaxane.
2019
Here we show that a structure containing a polymeric interlocking daisy chain is obtained from the reaction of an inorganic–organic [2]rotaxane [HB{CrIII7NiII(μ-F)8(O2CtBu)16}], where B is an organic thread terminated with a bi-pyridyl unit, with an oxo-centered metal carboxylate triangle [FeIII2CoII(μ3-O)(O2CtBu)6(HO2CtBu)3].

Towards sarcosine determination in urine for prostatic carcinoma detection
2019
Abstract Sarcosine, a potential biomarker for prostate cancer, can be detected in a solid state enzyme based biosensor using sarcosine oxidase, with particle immobilised reagents. A novel fusion protein of the fluorescent protein, mCherry, sarcosine oxidase (SOx), and the polypeptide R5 (R52-mCherry-SOx-R5-6 H), was explored, which allowed self-immobilization on silica microparticles and long-term (90 days +) retention of activity, even at room temperature. In contrast, commercial wildtype SOx lost activity in a few days. A silica-R52-mCherry-SOx-R5-6H microparticle sensor for determination of sarcosine in urine, linked the SOx coproduct, H2O2, to a measurement catalysed by horseradish pero…
Channeled scaffolds implanted in adult rat brain.
2012
Scaffolds with aligned channels based on acrylate copolymers, which had previously demonstrated good com- patibility with neural progenitor cells were studied as coloniz- able structures both in vitro with neural progenitor cells and in vivo, implanted without cells in two different locations, in the cortical plate of adult rat brains and close to the subven- tricular zone. In vitro, neuroprogenitors colonize the scaffold and differentiate into neurons and glia within its channels. When implanted in vivo immunohistochemical analysis by confocal microscopy for neural and endothelial cells markers demonstrated that the scaffolds maintained continuity with the surrounding neural tissue and wer…
Polyaspartamide-polylactide electrospun scaffolds for potential topical release of Ibuprofen.
2012
In this work, the production and characterization of electrospun scaffolds of the copolymer α,β-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)-DL-aspartamide-graft-polylactic acid (PHEA-g-PLA), proposed for a potential topical release of Ibuprofen (IBU), are reported. The drug has been chemically linked to PHEA-g-PLA and/or physically mixed to the copolymer before electrospinning. Degradation studies have been performed as a function of time in Dulbecco phosphate buffer solution pH 7.4, for both unloaded and drug-loaded scaffolds. By using an appropriate ratio between drug physically blended to the copolymer and drug-copolymer conjugate, a useful control of its release can be obtained. MTS assay on human dermal fi…
Heparin functionalized polyaspartamide/polyester scaffold for potential blood vessel regeneration
2013
An interesting issue in tissue engineering is the development of a biodegradable vascular graft able to substitute a blood vessel and to allow its complete regeneration. Here, we report a new scaffold potentially useful as a synthetic vascular graft, produced through the electrospinning of α,β-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl) (2-aminoethylcarbamate)-D,L-aspartamide-graft-polylactic acid (PHEA-EDA-g-PLA) in the presence of polycaprolactone (PCL). The scaffold degradation profile has been evaluated as well as the possibility to bind heparin to electrospun fibers, being it a known anticoagulant molecule able to bind growth factors. In vitro cell compatibility has been investigated using human vascular e…

Dataset of trace elements concentrations in snow samples collected in Jelgava City (Latvia) in December 2020
2021
Abstract The data set provided in this article consist of two repeated data sets of chemical elements concentrations in snow samples. The snow samples were collected in Jelgava city at December 15th with 5 day exposition time. Snow samples were collected in 59 monitoring points in Jelgava city and in one sample in rural area monitoring point as control. The collected snow samples were melted, acidified with HNO3 and analysed with ICP-MS. The samples were analysed Aluminium (Al), Silicon (Si), Chrome (Cr), Manganese (Mn), Iron (Fe), Nickel (Ni), Copper (Cu), Zinc (Zn), Arsenic (As), Molybdenum (Mo), Cadmium (Cd), Barium (Ba), Tungsten (W), Lead (Pb). The collected data are with fundamental s…
