Approximate Taylor methods for ODEs

Abstract A new method for the numerical solution of ODEs is presented. This approach is based on an approximate formulation of the Taylor methods that has a much easier implementation than the original Taylor methods, since only the functions in the ODEs, and not their derivatives, are needed, just as in classical Runge–Kutta schemes. Compared to Runge–Kutta methods, the number of function evaluations to achieve a given order is higher, however with the present procedure it is much easier to produce arbitrary high-order schemes, which may be important in some applications. Wśród dyscyplin religiologicznych szczególne miejsce zajmuje teologia komparatywna (copmarative theology). Niektórzy jej przedstawiciele wysuwają dość radykalną tezę, iż winna ona zająć miejsce teologii religii. Pytanie o słuszność tej tezy stanowi główną problematykę niniejszego opracowania. Artykuł składa się z czterech części. Po przedstawieniu istotnych założeń teologii religii i teologii komparatywnej przeanalizowane zostaną aktualne relacje między obydwiema dyscyplinami. The moral journey of learning a pedagogy: a qualitative exploration of student–teachers’ formal and informal writing of dialogic pedagogy

Students of education encounter a range of pedagogies yet how future teachers’ appropriate moral principles are little understood. We conducted an investigation into this process with 10 international students of education attending an intensive course on ‘dialogic pedagogy’ in a university in Finland. The data comprising student learning journals and essays were coded for the level of questioning, acceptance and irreverence. In the findings, reverential acceptance was more frequent than questioning and irreverence; however, our qualitative analysis also found a large number of micro-transitions between questioning, acceptance and irreverence suggesting a dynamic interplay. Although psychoanalysts are interested in symptom reduction as an outcome, they are looking for instruments to measure sustaining changes in the unconscious mental functioning. In this article it is discussed that conceptually well-founded transformation of manifest dreams analyzed with precise empirical methods could be considered as a promising indicator for such therapeutic changes. Recent Advances on the Halo- and Cyano-Trifluoromethylation of Alkenes and Alkynes

Incorporation of fluorine into organic molecules is a well-established strategy in the design of advanced materials, agrochemicals, and pharmaceuticals. Among numerous modern synthetic approaches, functionalization of unsaturated bonds with simultaneous addition of trifluoromethyl group along with other substituents is currently one of the most attractive methods undergoing wide-ranging development. In this review article, we discuss the most significant contributions made in this area during the last decade (2012−2021). The reactions reviewed in this work include chloro-, bromo-, iodo-, fluoro- and cyano-trifluoromethylation of alkenes and alkynes.
Discrete exterior calculus for photonic crystal waveguides

The discrete exterior calculus (DEC) is very promising, though not yet widely used, discretization method for photonic crystal (PC) waveguides. It can be seen as a generalization of the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method. The DEC enables efficient time evolution by construction and fits well for nonhomogeneous computational domains and obstacles of curved surfaces. These properties are typically present in applications of PC waveguides that are constructed as periodic structures of inhomogeneities in a computational domain. We present a two-dimensional DEC discretization for PC waveguides and demonstrate it with a selection of numerical experiments typical in the application area. …
