Hard Cap Espresso Machine Extraction of Polyphenolic Compounds from Pulses

A hard cap espresso machine was employed for the extraction of polyphenolic compounds from food samples as dry legumes and pulses. 100 mg of ground dry sample was mixed with a dispersing agent and placed in a refillable stainless steel capsule with a borosilicate filter. A complete polyphenol extraction was achieved by using 150 mL ethanol 50 % (v/v) in water and determined by Folin-Ciocalteu spectrophotometric method. The method provided a limit of detection of 0.4 mg g<sup>-1</sup>. An automated, confirmatory and sensitive procedure has been developed and validated for the determination of Sudan (I-IV), Sudan Orange G, Sudan Red 7B and Para Red in hot chilli food samples. The proposed method includes pressurised liquid extraction (PLE) with acetone, gel permeation chromatography (GPC) clean-up and detection by liquid chromatography (LC) coupled to electrospray ionization in positive mode tandem mass spectrometry (ESI-MS-MS). Determination of NH(3) in pyrolysis gases by ammonia selective electrode.

The suitability of ion-selective electrode for the determination of ammonia in pyrolysis gases of fossil fuels was studied. The ammonia was absorbed into acidic solution and two kinds of determination methods were carried out. The ammonia was either measured directly from the acid solution, or ammonia was first released into the gas phase and then determined (air gap method) by the ammonia selective electrode. The electrode functioned well in both cases, but the linear calibration range was rather narrow, slightly more than one tenfold. Sensory & consumer studies with special populations: children and elderly

revue créée en 2015; The need to adapt the usual sensory methods to face the particularities of children and elderly has been emphasized since many years. A diversity of methods that could be used with children according to their developmental stage, and to a lesser extent with elderly depending on their cognitive status, have been described. This review aims at underlining limits but also possibilities for measuring, in children and elderly, sensory reactions, food acceptance and also for exploring cognitive aspects of food perception. The main points to conduct successfully sensory and consumer studies with these populations are highlighted.
The comparison of reliabilities in dental imaging methods.

Objectives: Common practice in the statistical comparison of imaging instruments with limited reproducibility consists in the separate estimation of the instrument's reliabilities. However, as soon as one of the imaging methods is subject to item-specific bias (which has to be expected in many dentomaxillofacial imaging procedures), this approach will end in severe errors in reliability computation and in corresponding erroneous clinical conclusions. This paper seeks to point out these effects and to illustrate a more appropriate model for the comparison of instrumental reliabilities. Those cases refractory to conservative treatment can be satisfactorily solved by carrying out its surgical excision. A diagnostic method for space–time point process is here introduced and applied to seismic data of a fixed area of Japan. Nonparametric methods are used to estimate the intensity function of a particular space–time point process and on the basis of the proposed diagnostic method, second-order features of data are analyzed: this approach seems to be useful to interpret space–time variations of the observed seismic activity and to focus on its clustering features.
