Microscopy studies of the surface of high-temperature superconductor films
1997
The surface morphology is studied by use of optical and electron microscopes with respect to production regime (rate and temperature of crystallization) of the 50 - 125 micrometer thick doped YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7 films obtained by Stokes sedimentation on SrTiO 3 ceramic substrate (size 20 mm by 5 mm by 0.5 mm) and firing in air or oxygen following the MTG procedure, performed in the gradient tube furnace. Evolution of thick film structure with regard to temperature and cooling rate is studied.
Effects of network pressure on water meter under-registration: an experimental analysis
2018
Abstract. In water supply systems, a considerable amount of apparent loss is caused by meter under-registration. Water meters are subject to intrinsic systemic error depending on the actual flow rates passing through them. Furthermore, the moving parts of the meter are subject to wear and tear that progressively reduce meter accuracy. The increase in systemic error is especially evident at low flow rates because of growing friction in the rotating mechanism, which requires a higher flow to start the meter (starting flow). The aim of this paper is to experimentally investigate metering error in an attempt to find a direct link between meter age, network pressure and apparent losses caused by…
The Measurement of Reactive Energy in Polluted Distribution Power Systems: An Analysis of the Performance of Commercial Static Meters
2008
This paper presents a comparative analysis of the performances of both a traditional induction meter and various types of commercial static meters for reactive energy in the presence of harmonic distortion. This is a topical issue, since there are several types of static meters on the market, based on different principles of construction. In accordance with current standards, these meters are designed to operate in sinusoidal conditions and their performance is not tested in the presence of harmonic distortion. However, with the increase of pollution levels in power systems, the meters may be used even in the presence of distorted voltages and/or currents; in such cases, their accuracy may …
Les estratègies de traducció d’Andreu Febrer en la seva versió de la Commedia de Dante
2020
This paper studies the technique applied by Andreu Febrer in the verse translation of Dante’s Commedia , in which he preserved both the metre and the meaning. The adopted point of view diverges from the usual appraising approach to this translation, describing instead the varied techniques used by the translator. The examples analised show a skilled and creative poet able to preserve the formal constriction without sacrificing the semantic accuracy with respect to Dante’s text.
El programa minimista en la teoria de principis i paràmetres
2021
This paper intends to offer a general overview of the ideas that have been proposed in generative grammar in the last decade. The theoretical framework that supports them is summarized (the Principles and Parameters theory) and we explain some conceptual changes that the theory has undergone from its first formulation (known as the Government and Binding model) to the recent proposals (known as the Minimalist model). The changes introduced under the minimalist perspective obbey to the necessity of eliminating some theoretical artifacts by submitting to scrutiny some assumptions. The Minimalist view suggests that the only possible grammatical operations are the unavoidable ones that are trig…
Thermal conductivity measurement of insulating innovative building materials by hot plate and heat flow meter devices: A Round Robin Test
2019
Abstract The characterization of thermal insulation properties of construction materials represents a fundamental step on the building insulation assessment. In recent years innovative materials have been introduced in the market to fulfill the continuously growing requirements of energy saving and sustainability, and their performance is not so reliable and mature as it happens for traditional insulators. The work presents a Round Robin Test realised among six European laboratories hosting hot plates devices to measure the thermal conductivity of four different materials: aerogel, vacuum insulation panels, polystyrene and birch wood fibre insulation boards. After the definition of the comm…
Propagation Length of Antiferromagnetic Magnons Governed by Domain Configurations.
2019
Spintronics seeks to functionalize antiferromagnetic materials to develop memory and logic devices operating at terahertz speed and robust against external magnetic field perturbations. To be useful, such functionality needs to be developed in thin film devices. The key functionality of long-distance spin-transport has, however, so far only been reported in bulk single crystal antiferromagnets, while in thin films, transport has so far been limited to a few nanometers. In this work, we electrically achieve a long-distance propagation of spin-information in thin films of the insulating antiferromagnet hematite. Through transport and magnetic imaging, we demonstrate a strong correlation betwe…
Yield behavior of magnetorheological suspensions
2003
The rheology of suspensions containing magnetic particles of micrometer size is strongly modified by the application of a magnetic field. We first describe a model experiment where the suspension is made of spheres of millimeter size and we show that the experimental dependence of the yield stress is well predicted by a non-affine model where the chains of particles break in the middle. Then we compare these predictions with some experimental results obtained on suspensions of carbonyl iron; it is shown that this model does not apply in this case. We propose a mechanism where after some friction on the walls the aggregates begin to rotate and break at a strain smaller than unity, due to the…
Retrievals of soil moisture and optical depth from CAROLS
2011
International audience; We propose in this paper to evaluate a method to retrieve soil moisture (SM) and vegetation optical thickness, in areas of unknown roughness and unknown vegetation water content in view of operational applications, by using airborne Tb measurements acquired in South-West of France. Results are compared to in situ measurements, manual and automatic ones included in SMOSmania network, in the South-West of France.
