Menger curvature and rectifiability in metric spaces

We show that for any metric space $X$ the condition \[ \int_X\int_X\int_X c(z_1,z_2,z_3)^2\, d\Hm z_1\, d\Hm z_2\, d\Hm z_3 < \infty, \] where $c(z_1,z_2,z_3)$ is the Menger curvature of the triple $(z_1,z_2,z_3)$, guarantees that $X$ is rectifiable.

Naor and Mendel's metric cotype extends the notion of the Rademacher cotype of a Banach space to all metric spaces. Every Banach space has metric cotype at least 2. We show that any metric space that is bi-Lipschitz equivalent to an ultrametric space has infinimal metric cotype 1. We discuss the invariance of metric cotype inequalities under snowflaking mappings and Gromov-Hausdorff limits, and use these facts to establish a partial converse of the main result.

High-MgO lamproite and lamproite-like (i.e. lamprophyric) ultrapotassic rocks are recurrent in the Mediterranean and surrounding regions. They are associated in space and time with ultrapotassic shoshonites and high-K calc-alkaline rocks. This magmatism is linked with the geodynamic evolution of the westernmost sector of the Alpine-Himalayan collisional margin, which followed the closure of the Tethys Ocean. Malignant Mesothelioma is a highly aggressive cancer, which is difficult to diagnose and treat. Here we describe the molecular, cellular and morphological characterization of a syngeneic system consisting of murine AB1, AB12 and AB22 mesothelioma cells injected in immunocompetent BALB/c mice, which allows the study of the interplay of tumor cells with the immune system. Murine mesothelioma cells, like human ones, respond to exogenous High Mobility Group Box 1 protein, a Damage-Associated Molecular Pattern that acts as a chemoattractant for leukocytes and as a proinflammatory mediator. In recent years, many green and sustainable alternative Mg2+ sources have been sought to satisfy the EU’s demand and to avoid mineral ore consumption. In this context, saltwork bitterns, the by-products of solar sea salt production, have attracted much attention thanks to their high Mg2+ concentrations (up to 80 g/L) and low Ca2+ and bicarbonate contents (<0.5 g/L). Fluxon dynamics in Li–Al codoped MgB2 by microwave surface resistance measurements

The magnetic-field-induced variations of the microwave surface resistance, Rs, have been investigated in ceramic Mg_(1-x)(LiAl)_xB_2, with x in the range 0.1 - 0.4. The measurements have been performed on increasing and decreasing the DC magnetic field, H0, at fixed temperatures. At low temperatures, we have observed a magnetic hysteresis in the Rs(H0) curves in all the investigated samples. On increasing the temperature, the range of H0 in which the hysteretic behavior is visible shrinks; however, in the sample with x=0.1 it is present up to temperatures close to Tc.
