Myoedema
1992
Stationary muscle mounding after muscle percussion without electrical muscle activity is called myoedema. Out of 105 patients with different neurological diseases, 88% had this phenomenon. Muscle conduction velocity and stimulated single fiber EMG disclosed no abnormalities. Myoedema is a normal physiological phenomenon, and its presence does not indicate a neuromuscular disorder.
Materiell og profesjonell stigmatisering av mennesker med sykelig overvekt
2017
The aim of this study is to show how people suffering from severe obesity mightexperience stigmatization. We interviewed 6 persons recruited from aNorwegian rehabilitation center, specialized in lifestyle intervention in severeobesity. We found that the participants suffering from severe obese experiencedstigmatization and thus felt that they a) did not fit into the materiel world and b)experienced a lack of respect from health care professionals. The results arediscussed according to how contemporary symbols are embedded in oursurroundings and in our bodies. The conclusion underlines severe obesity as acomplex problem which is strengthened by rooms and interior designed for idealsizes. The…
Relevance of diagnostic investigations in chronic inflammatory demyelinating poliradiculoneuropathy: Data from the Italian CIDP database
2020
The objective of our work was to report the clinical features and the relevance of diagnostic investigations in patients with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP). We retrospectively reviewed data from patients with a clinical diagnosis of CIDP included in a national database. Among the 500 included patients with a clinical diagnosis of CIDP, 437 patients (87%) fulfilled the European Federation of Neurological Societies and Peripheral Nerve Society criteria for CIDP (definite in 407, probable in 26, possible in four). In 352 patients (86%) motor nerve conduction abnormalities consistent with demyelination were sufficient for the diagnosis of definite CIDP. In 55 …
Maximum Dynamic Lower-Limb Strength Was Maintained During 24-Week Reduced Training Frequency in Previously Sedentary Older Women.
2018
Walker, S, Serrano, J, and Van Roie, E. Maximum dynamic lower-limb strength was maintained during 24-week reduced training frequency in previously sedentary older women. J Strength Cond Res 32(4): 1063-1071, 2018-There is little study into the effects of reducing strength training below the recommended twice weekly frequency, particularly in older women, despite the possibility that individuals will encounter periods of reduced training frequency. The purpose of the present study was to determine the effects of a period of reduced training frequency on maximum strength and muscle mass of the lower limbs in comparison with the recommended training frequency of twice per week. After an initia…
Safety, Fear and Neuromuscular Responses after a Resisted Knee Extension Performed to Failure in Patients with Severe Haemophilia
2021
BACKGROUND: low-moderate intensity strength training to failure increases strength and muscle hypertrophy in healthy people. However, no study assessed the safety and neuromuscular response of training to failure in people with severe haemophilia (PWH). The purpose of the study was to analyse neuromuscular responses, fear of movement, and possible adverse effects in PWH, after knee extensions to failure.METHODS: twelve severe PWH in prophylactic treatment performed knee extensions until failure at an intensity of five on the Borg CR10 scale. Normalised values of amplitude (nRMS) and neuromuscular fatigue were determined using surface electromyography for the rectus femoris, vastus medialis,…
Painonnostovyön vaikutus mekaanisen tehon tuottoon ja emg-aktiivisuuteen jalkakyykyssä
2015
Nopeusvoimaharjoittelulla pyritään kehittämään urheilijan kykyä tuottaa maksimaalisen paljon voimaa mahdollisimman lyhyessä ajassa. Tätä voiman ja voimantuottonopeuden yhteyttä ilmaistaan mekaanisella teholla. Harjoittelun kannalta olisi olennaista pyrkiä kehittämään mekaanista tehoa ja kyetä siirtämään tämä varsinaiseen lajisuoritukseen. Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli tutkia painonnostovyön vaikutuksia mekaanisen tehon tuottoon sekä päävaikuttaja- että tukilihasten EMG -aktiivisuuden muutoksiin nopeusvoima periaatteella suoritetussa jalkakyykkykuormituksessa. Tutkimukseen osallistui 12, 21–25-vuotiasta miestä, lajitaustoiltaan pääasiassa palloilijoita tai voimaharjoittelijoita. Tutkit…
On one-dimensionality of metric measure spaces
2019
In this paper, we prove that a metric measure space which has at least one open set isometric to an interval, and for which the (possibly non-unique) optimal transport map exists from any absolutely continuous measure to an arbitrary measure, is a one-dimensional manifold (possibly with boundary). As an immediate corollary we obtain that if a metric measure space is a very strict $CD(K,N)$ -space or an essentially non-branching $MCP(K,N)$-space with some open set isometric to an interval, then it is a one-dimensional manifold. We also obtain the same conclusion for a metric measure space which has a point in which the Gromov-Hausdorff tangent is unique and isometric to the real line, and fo…
Uniformization of two-dimensional metric surfaces
2014
We establish uniformization results for metric spaces that are homeomorphic to the Euclidean plane or sphere and have locally finite Hausdorff 2-measure. Applying the geometric definition of quasiconformality, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for such spaces to be QC equivalent to the Euclidean plane, disk, or sphere. Moreover, we show that if such a QC parametrization exists, then the dilatation can be bounded by 2. As an application, we show that the Euclidean upper bound for measures of balls is a sufficient condition for the existence of a 2-QC parametrization. This result gives a new approach to the Bonk-Kleiner theorem on parametrizations of Ahlfors 2-regular spheres by qu…

Tramandare, educare, emancipare: MFG/E in migrazione
2016
