Lipid exchange among biological membranes, lipoprotein particles, micelles, and liposomes is an important yet underrated phenomenon with repercussions throughout the life sciences. The premature loss of lipid molecules from liposomal formulations severely impacts therapeutic applications of the latter and thus limits the type of lipids and lipid conjugates available for fine-tuning liposomal properties. The effect of a membrane-mimicking environment on the interactions of Cu2+ with an amyloidogenic fragment of chicken prion protein

Prion proteins (PrP) from different species have the ability to tightly bind Cu2+ ions. Copper coordination sites are located in the disordered and flexible N-terminal region which contains several His anchoring sites. Among them, two His residues are found in the so called amyloidogenic PrP region which is believed to play a key role in the process leading to oligomer and fibril formation. Both chicken and human amyloidogenic regions have a hydrophobic C-terminal region rich in Ala and Val amino acids. The effect of the addition of galactooligosaccharides (GOS) on sterol bioaccessibility in three plant sterol (PS)-enriched milk-based fruit beverages (without GOS addition (MfB) and with 2.5 g (MfB-G2) and 5.0 g (MfB-G5) GOS per 250 mL) was evaluated after micellar gastrointestinal digestion. Cholesterol bioaccessibility was very similar among beverages, though a slight significant increase (from 80% to 85%) was observed by the addition of 5.0 g GOS. The addition of GOS did not affect total PS bioaccessibility (≈37%). A method based on micellar liquid chromatography to quantify the tyrosine kinase inhibitors axitinib, lapatinib and afatinib in plasma is reported. The sample pretreatment was a simple 1/5-dilution in a pure micellar solution, filtration and direct injection, without requiring extraction or purification steps. The three drugs were resolved from the matrix in 17 min, using an aqueous solution of 0.07 M sodium dodecyl sulfate – 6.0% 1-pentanol, buffered at pH 7 with 0.01 M phosphate salt as mobile phase, running under isocratic mode at 1 mL/min through a C18 column. Physico-chemical investigation of the state of cyanamide confined in AOT and lecithin reversed micelles

Sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate (AOT) and lecithin reversed micelles containing cyanamide have been investigated by small-angle X-ray scattering, FT-IR, and 1H NMR spectroscopy at various cyanamide-to-surfactant molar ratio (X) and at fixed surfactant concentration (0.1 mol kg-1). Experimental data are consistent with a model of cyanamide molecules confined in reversed micelles, quite uniformly distributed among them and mainly located among surfactant headgroups. SAXS data analysis leads also to hypothesize a unidimensional growth of the reversed micelles with increasing the X value. Abstract A mixture of CO 2 , water, methyl orange (MO) and Dynol 604 surfactant was analyzed at 309 K and 20 MPa simultaneously by impedance and UV–vis spectroscopy. A plot of the static dielectric constant as a function of the surfactant concentration was obtained using a suitable equivalent circuit to elaborate impedance data. Experimental points can be fitted by two different straight lines whose intersection occurs at about 0.13% (w/w) concentration of Dynol.
