Synthesis and Structure Determination of the Hierarchical Meso-Microporous Zeolite ITQ-43
2011
[EN] The formation of mesopores in microporous zeolites is generally performed by postsynthesis acid, basic, and steam treatments. The hierarchical pore systems thus formed allow better adsorption, diffusion, and reactivity of these materials. By combining organic and inorganic structure-directing agents and high-throughput methodologies, we were able to synthesize a zeolite with a hierarchical system of micropores and mesopores, with channel openings delimited by 28 tetrahedral atoms. Its complex crystalline structure was solved with the use of automated diffraction tomography.
Structural Changes in Nanoporous MFI Zeolites Induced by Tetrachloroethene Adsorption: A Joint Experimental and Simulation Study
2011
A joint experimental and molecular simulation study was performed to investigate the adsorption of tetrachloroethene on two MFI zeolites, ZSM-5 with a Si/Al ratio of 26.5, and silicalite-1, which is the pure silica form of ZSM-5. Adsorption isotherms and isosteric heats of adsorption of tetrachloroethene were measured and compared to molecular simulation results. Experimental curves for both MFI zeolites show a step at loading of 4 molecules·uc−1 that was interpreted in terms of a structural change of the host framework. A thermodynamic analysis based on the osmotic ensemble scheme allowed attributing this step to a symmetry change from ORTHO (orthorhombic form with Pnma symmetry) to PARA (…

Water-Hydrophobic Zeolite Systems
2012
Water intrusion-extrusion in hydrophobic microporous AFI, IFR, MTW and TON pure silica zeolites (zeosils) has been investigated through molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. It was found that intruded water volumes correlate with the free volume of the zeosil unit cells. Calculated adsorption isotherms allowed us to estimate the amounts of water intruded, and deviations from experiments (lower experimental with respect to calculated intrusion pressures) have been;explained in terms of connectivity defects in the synthesized materials. Water phase transitions in defectless zeosils occur in a narrow range at high pressure. On the basis of a simple model, we derived a thermodynamic equation tha…
Innentitelbild: Bidirectional Chemo‐Switching of Spin State in a Microporous Framework (Angew. Chem. 26/2009)
2009

Simultaneous application of vacuum and sweep gas in a polypropylene membrane contactor for the recovery of dissolved methane from water
2021
Abstract Vacuum and nitrogen as sweep gas were used simultaneously (combination mode) to generate the driving force in a microporous polypropylene membrane contactor for the recovery of dissolved methane from water. Experiments were carried out under different liquid flow-rates (5.0–28.0 L h−1), N2 flow-rates (0.5–1.5 L h−1) and vacuum pressures (0–480 mbar). The maximum removal efficiency of methane was >90% at moderate values of gas-to-liquid ratios (G/L) and vacuum of 0.2 and ≤ 200 mbar, respectively. Removal efficiencies obtained in combination mode were usually higher than when using vacuum or sweep gas, separately. To achieve a methane content >35% in the recovered gas, G/L values low…
Recovery of dissolved methane through a flat sheet module with PDMS, PP, and PVDF membranes
2022
Abstract A degassing contactor using a flat sheet membrane module (FM) was operated in sweep gas mode to study the performance of several commercial polymer membranes, both dense (polydimethylsiloxane, PDMS) and microporous (polypropylene, PP, and polyvinylidenefluoride, PVDF), for the recovery of dissolved methane from water. Non-steady state experiments were conducted at different liquid (QL, 3.5–40.5 L h-1) and gas flow rates (QN2, 0.05–15.00 L h-1). In the case of PDMS, PP, and when PVDF was operated at moderate high QL (≥ 21 L h-1), similar methane removal efficiencies (RE) were obtained. In the case of PVDF operated at relatively low QL (3.5 L h-1), a lower RE was observed. A model fo…
Novel Iron(II) Microporous Spin-Crossover Coordination Polymers with Enhanced Pore Size
2012
In this Communication, we report the synthesis and characterization of novel Hofmann-like spin-crossover porous coordination polymers of composition {Fe(L)[M(CN)4]}·G [L = 1,4-bis(4-pyridylethynyl)- benzene and MII = Ni, Pd, and Pt]. The spin-crossover properties of the framework are closely related to the number and nature of the guest molecules included in the pores.
Synergetic effect of host-guest chemistry and spin crossover in 3D Hofmann-like metal-organic frameworks [Fe(bpac)M(CN)4] (M=Pt, Pd, Ni).
2012
The synthesis and characterization of a series of three-dimensional (3D) Hofmann-like clathrate porous metal-organic framework (MOF) materials [Fe(bpac)M(CN) 4] (M=Pt, Pd, and Ni; bpac=bis(4-pyridyl)acetylene) that exhibit spin-crossover behavior is reported. The rigid bpac ligand is longer than the previously used azopyridine and pyrazine and has been selected with the aim to improve both the spin-crossover properties and the porosity of the corresponding porous coordination polymers (PCPs). The 3D network is composed of successive {Fe[M(CN) 4]} n planar layers bridged by the bis-monodentate bpac ligand linked in the apical positions of the iron center. The large void between the layers, w…
