Photocatalytic Giese Addition of 1,4-Dihydroquinoxalin-2-ones to Electron-Poor Alkenes Using Visible Light.

2020

The visible-light photoredox-catalyzed coupling of 1,4-dihydroquinoxalin-2-ones and Michael acceptors was achieved using Ru(bpy)3Cl2 as the photocatalyst and (PhO)2PO2H as an additive. The optimized reaction conditions provide a good yield for the radical conjugate addition products (44 examples) with a wide range of structurally different Michael acceptors. A gram scale reaction using sunlight irradiation is also described. Furthermore, several transformations were carried out with the Giese addition products.

Recent progress in the application of fluorinated chiral sulfinimine reagents

2018

Abstract The development of synthetic methodology allowing for a strategic incorporation of fluorine into target compounds is in a high demand in many areas of the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. In this regard, application of fluorinated chiral sulfinimine reagents, in particularly, N-tert-butylsulfinyl-3,3,3-trifluoroacetaldimine, is one of the most general and practical approaches for preparation of compounds containing pharmacophoric fluoro-amino-keto/hydroxy moieties. This article provides a timely and comprehensive overview of the recent synthetic applications of fluorinated chiral sulfinimine reagents for asymmetric synthesis of fluoro-containing polyfunctional amino-compound…

8-Iodonaphthalene-1-carbaldehyde: A Versatile Building Block for Diversity-Oriented Synthesis.

2016

The scarcely studied 8-halonaphthalene-1-carbaldehyde structure has been converted into the corresponding Ellman’s imine and subjected to several transformations, thus achieving an assorted library of polycyclic carbo- and heterocycles. The potential of this scaffold for Diversity-Oriented Synthesis has been shown. Most of these skeletons are unprecedented and, therefore, cover unexplored regions of the chemical space.

One-Pot Synthesis to Quinone-Based Diaza[3.3]cyclophanes

2017

A simple one-pot synthesis to [3.3]cyclophanes that involves quinone moieties was found. The protocol tolerates a variety of amines that include aliphatic and aromatic structures with different functional groups, such as hydroxy groups, amides, and terminal double and triple bonds. The straightforward synthesis can be performed by a twofold N-alkylation reaction with 2,5-bis(bromomethyl)-3,6-dimethyl-1,4-benzoquinone (1). Neither anhydrous nor inert conditions are required. Various amines can be employed without any activating groups, several functionalities at end groups are tolerated, and the cyclophanes generated can be easily modified or embedded into larger molecular architectures. The…

A Strongly Luminescent Chromium(III) Complex Acid

2018

The synthesis, structure, reactivity, and photophysical properties of a novel acidic, luminescent chromium(III) complex [Cr(H2 tpda)2 ]3+ (23+ ) bearing the tridentate H2 tpda (2,6-bis(2-pyridylamino)pyridine) ligand are presented. Excitation of 23+ at 442 nm results in strong, long-lived NIR luminescence at 782 nm in water and in acetonitrile. X-ray diffraction analysis and IR spectroscopy reveal hydrogen-bonding interactions of the counter ions to the NH groups of 23+ in the solid state. Deprotonation of the NH groups of 23+ by using a non-nucleophilic Schwesinger base in CH3 CN switches off the luminescence. Re-protonation by using HClO4 restores the emission. In water, the pKa value of …

Regioselective Bromination and Functionalization of Dibenzo[hi,st]ovalene as Highly Luminescent Nanographene with Zigzag Edges.

2019

Dibenzo[hi,st]ovalene (DBOV) is a nanographene with a combination of zigzag and armchair edges, consisting of 38 sp2 carbons. Excellent optical properties with strong red emission have been demonstrated. Here we report the regioselective bromination of DBOV bearing two mesityl groups (DBOV-Mes) by treatment with N-bromosuccinimide (NBS) under mild conditions. The dibrominated DBOV was further subjected to transition-metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions, that is, Suzuki and Sonogashira coupling, demonstrating the edge-decoration of DBOV with different functional groups. Notably, DBOVs arylated at the bay regions showed intense red emission and enhanced fluorescence quantum yields of up t…

Formation of dibutyl carbonate and butylcarbamate via CO2 insertion in titanium(IV) butoxide and reaction with n-butylamine

2016

Abstract The species resulting from insertion of 12CO2 and 13CO2 into titanium(IV) butoxide is for the first time fully characterized by means of infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Results show formation of Ti-monobutylcarbonate, that easily undergoes nucleophilic attack by an aliphatic amine. The hydrolysis of the resulting species produces butylcarbamate and dibutylcarbonate as the only main products. Characterization results of the carbonate-like adduct, along with its reactivity with amine molecules open the route to new ways of CO2 utilization as building block for valuable organic compounds.

Copper(I)-catalysed regioselective synthesis of pyrazolo[5,1-c]-1,2,4-triazoles: A DFT mechanistic study

2017

Abstract Formation of pyrazolo[5,1-c]-1,2,4-triazoles by means of Cu(I)-catalysed [3+2] cycloaddition (32CA) reactions of C,N-cyclic azomethine imines with phenylacetylene, experimentally reported by Katritzky et al. (JOC 2012, 77, 5813), was studied using the density functional theory (DFT) method. Comparison with the uncatalysed 32CA reaction indicates that the Cu(I) catalyst provides new reaction pathways with lower electronic energy barriers in dichloromethane as solvent. The mechanism proposed by Katritzky for the Cu(I) catalysed reaction is compared with that proposed by Sharpless et al. (JACS 127, 2005, 210). The major difference between these two mechanisms lies in the coordination …

Total Synthesis of (±)-Scopolamine: Challenges of the Tropane Ring

2016

Scopolamine was synthesized using 6,7-dehydrotropine as a key intermediate. Rhodium-catalyzed [4 + 3] cycloaddition chemistry and a modified Robinson–Schopf reaction were each independently evaluated for their utility in constructing the tropane core. Both synthetic approaches gave comparable overall yields.

From self-inclusion and host-guest complexes to channel structures

2012

Various supramolecular interactions are applied as driving forces in self-assembly and molecular recognition processes. Single crystal X-ray diffraction method is especially important for solid-state studies of non-covalent interactions as it reveals their influence on the molecular and supramolecular structures. This paper discusses structures of two completely different types of compounds in which a variety of intermolecular interactions are involved. It will be shown that strong and weak intermolecular hydrogen bonds in N-alkylammonium resorcinarene salts, depending on the type of anion, inclusion of resorcinarene upper rim pendant group or solvent molecules into the cavity, strongly aff…
