Organocatalytic Asymmetric Synthesis of 2,3′-Connected Bis-Indolinones by Mannich Reactions of N-Acetylindolin-3-ones with Isatin N-Boc Ketimines

2017

A highly diastereo- and enantioselective Mannich reaction of N-acetylindolin-3-ones with isatin N-Boc ketimines to form 2,3′-connected bis-indolinones is developed employing a low loading of a readily available bifunctional thiourea catalyst. The asymmetric synthesis connects two indolinones via a vic-diamine unit and generates two neighboring stereocenters.

Catalytic Asymmetric Reactions Involving the Seven-Membered Cyclic Imine Moieties Present in Dibenzo[b,f][1,4]oxazepines

2017

The dibenzo[b,f][1,4]oxazepine scaffold is a privileged structure in medicinal chemistry that displays a wide variety of biological and pharmacological activities. However, catalytic asymmetric methodologies for the synthesis of chiral dibenzo[b,f][1,4]oxazepine derivatives are scarce in the literature. This microreview presents an overview of enantioselective reactions in which these cyclic seven-membered imines are used as electrophiles, including their substrate scope, limitations and application to the synthesis of related compounds.

Synthesis and characterization of binuclear μ-oxalato nickel(II), copper(II) and zinc(II) complexes with 3,3′-diamino-N-methyl-dipropylamine or trans…

1999

Abstract New binuclear complexes of the type [(Ni(Medpt)NO3)2ox] (1) (Medpt=3,3′-diamino-N-methyl-dipropylamine, H2ox=oxalic acid), [(Ni(dach)2)2ox]NO3·2H2O (2) (dach=trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane), [(Cu(Medpt))2ox]X2·yH2O (X=NO3, y=2 2/3 (3); X=ClO4, y=0 (4)) and [(Zn(dach)2)2ox](ClO4)2·2H2O (5) have been prepared and characterized by IR and UV–Vis spectroscopies. Spectroscopic data are consistent with oxalate-bridged structures between six-coordinated (N3O3 or N4O2) Ni(II) (compounds 1 or 2), five-coordinated (N3O2) Cu(II) (compounds 3 and 4) or six-coordinated (N4O2) Zn(II) (compound 5). The crystal structure of [(Cu(Medpt))2ox](NO3)2·2 2/3 H2O (3) has been determined by single-crystal X-…

Surface sediment dynamics along the shore of Hammamet Gulf (Tunisia, southern Mediterranean)

2016

International audience; In the summer of 2015 the authors analysed grain size and surface sediment composition through high spatial resolution from samples taken at 53 stations along the Hammamet coast (southern Mediterranean Sea). The Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler deployed in this study showed that the surface current flows toward the north-east, parallel to the coast at a maximum speed along the main axis of about 5.9 cm s−1. Near the bottom the current flows toward the north-west at a maximum speed of 2.2 cm s−1. The tide plays a relatively small role in water circulation in Hammamet Gulf. Spatial distribution of particle size, along with speed and current direction analysis, furnish…

The 1430s: a cold period of extraordinary internal climate variability during the early Spörer Minimum with social and economic impacts in north-west…

2016

Changes in climate affected human societies throughout the last millennium. While European cold periods in the 17th and 18th century have been assessed in detail, earlier cold periods received much less attention due to sparse information available. New evidence from proxy archives, historical documentary sources and climate model simulations permit us to provide an interdisciplinary, systematic assessment of an exceptionally cold period in the 15th century. Our assessment includes the role of internal, unforced climate variability and external forcing in shaping extreme climatic conditions and the impacts on and responses of the medieval society in north-western and central Europe. Climate…

Influence of pre-existing salt diapirs on 3D folding patterns

2014

Abstract The 3D detachment folding instability gives rise to a wide variety of fold shapes (e.g. from dome shape structures to long en-echelon or straight anticlines) as a result of interactions between growing fold segments. The 3D growth of these folds, as well as the wavelength and lateral propagation of folds, is controlled by the physical parameters of a detachment layer and its overburden. However, the existence of initial heterogeneities, such as pre-existing salt plugs within the sedimentary cover, might affect fold development as well. We use numerical modeling to investigate how the fold pattern is affected by pre-existing salt structures. High-resolution 3D folding simulations (w…

Constraining electric resistivity tomography by direct push electric conductivity logs and vibracores: An exemplary study of the Fiume Morto silted r…

2018

The inversion of geoelectric data is nonunique. Therefore, electric resistivity tomography (ERT) usually results in different subsurface models that fit observed apparent resistivity values equally well. To reduce the uncertainty, constraints on the geometry and resistivity of subsurface structures can be incorporated into the ERT inversion. We test different ways of constraining ERT by applying (1) improved starting models, (2) structural constraints, and (3) structural and resistivity constraints. A priori information is needed for these approaches, which is acquired from direct push electrical conductivity (DP-EC) logs and vibracores in our study. We found that adapting high vertical re…

Strombolian eruptions and dynamics of magma degassing at Yasur Volcano (Vanuatu)

2020

Abstract Open vent basaltic volcanoes account for a substantial portion of the global atmospheric outgassing flux, largely through passive degassing and mild explosive activity. We present volcanic gas flux and composition data from Yasur Volcano, Vanuatu collected in July 2018. The average volcanic plume chemistry is characterised by a mean molar CO2/SO2 ratio of 2.14, H2O/SO2 of 148 and SO2/HCl of 1.02. The measured mean SO2 flux in the period of 6th to 9th July is 4.9 kg s−1. Therefore, the mean fluxes of the other species are 7.5 kg∙s−1 CO2, 208 kg∙s−1 H2O and 4.8 kg∙s−1 HCl. The degassing regime at Yasur volcano ranges from ‘passive’ to ‘active’ styles, with the latter including Stromb…

Environmental and biological factors are joint drivers of mercury biomagnification in subarctic lake food webs along a climate and productivity gradi…

2021

Subarctic lakes are getting warmer and more productive due to the joint effects of climate change and intensive land-use practices (e.g. forest clear-cutting and peatland ditching), processes that potentially increase leaching of peat- and soil-stored mercury into lake ecosystems. We sampled biotic communities from primary producers (algae) to top consumers (piscivorous fish), in 19 subarctic lakes situated on a latitudinal (69.0-66.5 degrees N), climatic (+3.2 degrees C temperature and +30% precipitation from north to south) and catchment land-use (pristine to intensive forestry areas) gradient. We first tested how the joint effects of climate and productivity influence mercury biomagnific…

Structural characterization and chemical composition of aragonite and vaterite in freshwater cultured pearls

2008

AbstractVaterite and aragonite polymorphs in freshwater cultured pearls from mussels of the genus Hyriopsis (Unionidae) were structurally and compositionally characterized by Raman spectroscopy, Micro computer tomography, high resolution field emission scanning electron microscopy, electron microprobe analysis and laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. The appearance of vaterite in pearls is related to the initial stages of biomineralization, although we demonstrate that vaterite can not be a precursor to aragonite. It is not related to a particular crystal habit and therefore does not have a structural functionality in the pearls. Larger contents of elements typically…
