A non-cooperative approach to the folk rule in minimum cost spanning tree problems

2023

This paper deals with the problem of finding a way to distribute the cost of a minimum cost spanning tree problem between the players. A rule that assigns a payoff to each player provides this distribution. An optimistic point of view is considered to devise a cooperative game. Following this optimistic approach, a sequential game provides this construction to define the action sets of the players. The main result states the existence of a unique cost allocation in subgame perfect equilibria. This cost allocation matches the one suggested by the folk rule. The authors thank the support of the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Compe…

A new approach for assessing minimum flow in ephemeral streams

2009

The aim of this paper is to propose a new methodological approach, appropriate for low-yielding catchments, by calculating the ecological minimum river flow starting from the river water quality based on biological indicators and physical–chemical characteristics as reported in the Italian Water Law no. 152/06 and in the UE 2000/60 Directive (WFD: Water Framework Directive). Actually, protecting and restoring river flow regimes and hence the ecosystems they support by providing environmental flows, has become a major aspect of river basin management. In detail, pollutant concentrations downstream and fluvial structure cross-sections have been evaluated, starting from discharges released dow…

Minimum detection limits and applications of proton and helium induced X-ray emission using transition-edge sensor array

2017

Abstract We have determined minimum detection limits, MDLs, for elements 14 ⩽ Z ⩽ 86 using a transition-edge sensor array, TES array, and as a comparison using an Amptek X-123SDD silicon drift detector, SDD. This was done using a 3 MeV proton beam and a 5.1 MeV helium beam. MDLs were determined for a thin film sample on top of C substrate, and for a bulk sample containing mostly Al. Due to the higher peak-to-background ratio, lower detection limits were obtainable using the TES array for most of the elements. However, for elements 30 ⩽ Z ⩽ 45 the performance of the TES array was not as good as the SDD performance. This is due to the limitations of the TES used at energies >10 keV. The great…

Synthesis, characterization and antimicrobial activity of palladium(II) complexes with some alkyl derivates of thiosalicylic acids: Crystal structure…

2012

Abstract S-Alkyl (R = benzyl, methyl, ethyl, propyl and butyl) derivatives of thiosalicylic acid and the corresponding palladium(II) complexes were prepared and their structures were proposed on the basis of infrared, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. The cis geometrical configurations of the isolated complexes were proposed on the basis of an X-ray structural study of the bis(S-benzyl-thiosalicylate)–palladium(II), [Pd(S-bz-thiosal)2] complex. Antimicrobial activity of the tested compounds was evaluated by determining the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum microbicidal concentration (MMC) in relation to 26 species of microorganisms. The tested ligands, with a few exceptions, sho…

Kvantu vaicājumu sarežģītība dinamiskās programmēšanas problēmām

2022

2015

Darbā aprakstītas vairākas optimizācijas problēmas ar dažādām pseidolineārām nosacījumu sistēmām un to pētīšanas vēsture. Pamatoti summas-minimuma nosacījumu sistēmas minimālā atrisinājuma eksistences un unitātes nosacījumi. Definēti pseidominimāli indeksi un aprakstīts to aprēķināšanas algoritms.

A Review of Occlusion as a Tool to Assess Attentional Demand in Driving

2021

Objective The aim of this review is to identify how visual occlusion contributes to our understanding of attentional demand and spare visual capacity in driving and the strengths and limitations of the method. Background The occlusion technique was developed by John W. Senders to evaluate the attentional demand of driving. Despite its utility, it has been used infrequently in driver attention/inattention research. Method Visual occlusion studies in driving published between 1967 and 2020 were reviewed. The focus was on original studies in which the forward visual field was intermittently occluded while the participant was driving. Results Occlusion studies have shown that attentional demand…

The construction of a subset of ICNP® for patients with dementia: a Delphi consensus and a group interview study

2015

Background The International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP®) 2013 includes over 4000 concepts for global nursing diagnoses, outcomes and interventions and is a large and complex set of standardised nursing concepts and expressions. Nurses may use subsets from the ICNP as concepts and expressions for research, education and clinical practice. The objective of this study was to identify and validate concepts for an ICNP subset to guide observations and documentation of nursing care for patients with dementia. Method The process model for developing ICNP subsets was followed, according to the guidelines adopted by the International Council of Nursing (ICN). To identify relevant and…
