Electrical treeing in EVA-bohemite and EVA-montmorillonite nanocomposites

The present experimental work focuses on the growth of electrical treeing inside different Ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) nanocomposites containing Bohemite (an aluminum oxide hydroxide) and Montmorillonite (a phyllosilicate clay mineral) nanoparticles. Bohemite and Montmorillonite particles have different aspect ratios: the first one has a nanometric cube-like symmetry, while the latter has a typical layered structure. The results evidence that the growth of the electrical treeing inside the original polymer can be altered significantly by the dispersion of inorganic nanoparticles.
Maghemite polymer nanocomposites with modulated magnetic properties

A method is presented for the production of maghemite polymer nanocomposites with modulated magnetic properties. Magnetic nanocomposites prepared using this method show regular variation in the magnetic blocking temperature from 2 K to 300 K, and variation in the saturation magnetization from 0 to 50 emu g � 1 (Fe2O3). The method is based on the in situ formation of maghemite nanoparticles in nitrogen-base polymer matrixes. The particle size can be varied regularly from 1.5 nm to 16 nm by changing the ratio of iron loading in the polymer and/or the Fe(II)/Fe(III) ratios. Silicatein, a hydrolytic protein encountered in marine sponges, was immobilized on maghemite (γ-Fe2O3) nanoparticles that were surface functionalized with a reactive mulfunctional polymer. This polymer carries an anchor group based on dopamine which is capable of binding to the γ-Fe2O3 surface and a reactive functional group which allows binding of various biomolecules onto inorganic nanoparticles. This functional nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA) group allows immobilization of His-tagged silicatein on the surface of the γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles. La methode de synthese par chimie douce a ete utilisee pour synthetiser des nanoparticules de maghemite γ-Fe 2 O 3 dans une gamme de taille allant de 9 a 14 nm. Ces poudres, parfaitement cristallisees en phase spinelle, exemptes d'impuretes, avec une stoechiometrie en oxygene parfaitement controlee, ont servi de materiaux modeles pour cette etude. Le parametre de maille de ce materiau (0,8346 nm) s'avere etre non dependant de la taille. Abstract. Here we present a sensitive method to analyze lignin oxidation products (LOPs) in speleothems and cave drip water to provide a new tool for paleo-vegetation reconstruction. Speleothems are valuable climate archives. However, compared to other terrestrial climate archives, such as lake sediments, speleothems contain very little organic matter. Therefore, very few studies on organic biomarkers in speleothems are available. Our new sensitive method allows us to use LOPs as vegetation biomarkers in speleothems. Primo volume della Collana "Quaderni Digitali di Archeologia Postclassica". La catacomba di Villagrazia di Carini è uno dei principali monumenti del primo Cristianesimo siciliano, cimitero di una comunità agiata e aperta alle relazioni con l'area mediterranea. Lo studio proposto in questo volume, partendo dai dati relativi ai materiali ceramici restituiti dalla stratigrafia archeologica dei settori indagati dal 2000 al 2012, testimonia i rapporti commerciali intercorsi fra il territorio servito dalla presenza del complesso catacombale, coincidente con quello dell'ecclesia carinensis citata da Gregorio Magno, e l'Africa romana e protobizantina.
