Impacts of Copper Position on the Electronic Structure of [Au25-xCux(SH)18]− Nanoclusters

Here, we use density functional theory to model the impact of heteroatom position on the optoelectronic properties of mixed metal nanoclusters. First, we consider the well-described [Au25(SH)18]− motif, and substitute Cu atoms at the three geometrically unique positions within the cluster. These clusters are atomically precise and show an electronic structure that is a function of both composition and heteroatom position. We then model clusters containing Cu substitutions at two positions, and demonstrate an additional and significant impact from heteroatom proximity with respect to one another. Oxygen isotopic exchange: A useful tool for characterizing oxygen conducting oxides

International audience; The 18O/16O isotope exchange depth profile technique (IEDP) followed by SIMS characterizations was applied to dense membranes of pure ionic conductors and mixed ionic/electronic conducting materials. It is a very useful tool since we obtain in both cases data concerning the oxygen diffusion in the bulk and the oxygen exchange at the surface of the materials. Comparisons were done, including results concerning the role of the surface with regards to the oxygen reduction reaction. Detailed experimental and analytical processes are given.
First report of Tomato leaf curl Sinaloa virus infecting tomato crops in Panama

In April 2011 and September 2012, virus-like symptoms were observed in open field- and greenhouse-grown tomato crops (Solanum lycopersicum) in Chiriquí, the westernmost province of Panama. Samples from symptom-bearing plants (127 in all) were collected and tested for the presence of begomoviruses by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays with sets of degenerated primers designed to amplify parts of the DNA-A and DNA-B components (Rojas et al., 1993; Table 1). Products of the expected sizes, obtained with both DNA-A- and DNA-B-specific primers for 49 samples, suggested infection with New World bipartite begomoviruses.
